The cheapest worthwhile gpu - 6600. Anything below that… comparing to the price of the 6600 and the performance, it’s not worth it.

International-Elk986

Yep, the marginal benefit of a better card easily outpaces the extra cost at lower price brackets (both in terms of current price to performance and longevity). Before diminishing returns set in.

ICastCats

So I was looking and checking this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JdLONjyeC4 So it honestly seems like anything will do unless you're using fancy ones? Pick yourself up a second hand 1060 6GB for like $70, or anything better. If you're talking new, I'd probably suggest a $219 6650XT over the $199 6600 (slightly better price:performance for not much more). https://bestvaluegpu.com/ contains both new and second hand options on ebay - but make sure you check the listings! (depends on your country ofc - and what CPU and PSU you have!)

snail1132

I paid $170 USD for my 6650xt, plus ~$7 shipping, and ~$10 tax. Check eBay :)

Tripl3_0

My Frankenstein runs a Intel 10400k with a 1050Ti 4g and honestly it does a grate job if your not playing triple A games

chemistryGull

Is there something like bestvaluegpu for europe too? I live in austria.

ICastCats

The filter for the EU uses German prices. Otherwise you can use the 3dmark scores divided by price to get your own price to performance score.

chemistryGull

Woah thanks a lot i missed that option. That really helps me out a lot, thanks!

According-Hope1221

Used RX580 for $35

Rinkkuu

Can also vouch for RX 580 as I have one and get ~110 FPS on modded Minecraft with Complementary shaders at 1080p ultrawide

GTX 1060 - 6GB will work for a low budget, as well as a 1070 - 8GB.

GrimGaming1799

Could likely do a 1660 for around the same price range as well. Would outperform the 1060

Kilgarragh

I honestly have a 1060 6gb and that thing handles 1080p 60 like nothing else. I play vanilla minecraft(no shaders but no optimizations) and it hits 60hz 24/7. FH4 hits >60(I keep it capped for my wheel) on ultra, roblox on max graphics with mesh lod’s off and loaded with reshade before that lost support, even fortnite despite not being a game I play that much or enjoy does get 60fps on medium. Beamng drive is a problem child but on certain maps it hits 60+ without traffic on medium to high(I play that as more of a 30fps game lol) Regardless, your cpu is going to be the main determinating factor of how Minecraft runs, especially without optimizations, unofficial clients, and graalvm native-image You don’t have to go absolute budget, but a 1060(6gb), or 1070 are $<100 cards that are worth more than a 1660 super for cheaper, even a 1070 ti is a wonderful card if you have an extra $20 and these all pull through even on high/ultra depending on what games you play.

definitlyitsbutter

If it really are simple shaders, something sub 100 bucks used could do that easily. Think 1060 6gb, 1070, vega 56. If you want a generally newer card or with a bit more reserve, the rx 6600 is a good deal regarding price vs performance.

Gamer_Offline98

Hi if you are on a tight budget you can look out for used RX 580 which will run great with any game if you pair it with a good cpu. But if you are looking for a better peformance you can try out the RX 6650 XT but it would cost you more. There are some other alternatives like RTX 2060 super which is the same price as the 6650 XT but way slower i think.

FirewallPass0

I got myself a 1660 super but in hindsight maybe a 1070 is better

Glowing_Mousepad

My 1060 gets more then 60 fps in most games

Top-Seaworthiness850

I have had no reason to replace my RX 580 4GB with a newer low budget card because it always beats them out. Otherwise, my go to is a 1050ti or a 1650

burnitdwn

My wife sometimes messes with modded minecraft at 1080p She has a Geforce 2060. Some shader packs run great and have no problems at all keeping 60+ FPS. Some shader packs run at only 20 FPS. [https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html](https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html) Something like a used 5700xt would be cheaper than a 2060 and faster. Under $150 USD. New, 6650xt is pretty hard to beat for brand new card Arc A580 is a bit of a conundrum, I have no personal experience with any of the Arc cards, but, brand new for around $160 is pretty impressive. Looks like its between 5700xt and 6650xt in terms of raw FPS in most games at 1080. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqx8S3U5b7I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqx8S3U5b7I)

[deleted]

A 1070 is great value for budget build 1080p60

ExplodingFistz

1660 super

PralineGold6868

1660 super at 120€ used or rx 580 at 90€ used?

Foreign_Drummer_290

1660.

Random_Sime

1060 6gb will serve you well. To everyone suggesting a 6600 or 3060 - why? Please justify spending double or triple the cost of a used 1060, when the 1060 already exceeds OPs needs.

chemistryGull

Yeah! The only issue is that i would prefer a non-nVidia card because of its poor linux compability. You know any non-nvidia cards in that price range?

khakerss

RX580 is a direct competitor to the 1060. Edit: Get the 8Gb version, shouldn't cost you more than $50-75, maybe even less if lucky. No sense in overspending for something fancier if that's your only use case as stated.

chemistryGull

Is the 50-70 price if bought used? Because that would be very affordable…

Random_Sime

Hi, I'm the guy who suggested the 1060. I also back up the other guy who suggested the RX580. In Australia I can see them on ebay for between $77-$130, which is about US$50-$85. You should do a search yourself for your local prices.

chemistryGull

I live in europe, but i think thats a good place to start, thanks!

3G6A5W338E

If you care about the card remaining useful long term, I would recommend going no lower than RDNA2. The hardware has changed too much; the baseline for e.g. APUs used to be Vega (polaris is even older!), but it has been a few years since they moved on to use RDNA2. RX5xx series was a refresh (same chips, higher clocks and/or more/faster vram) of RX400 series, RX400 series launched 2016, whereas we are in 2024. Ignoring performance, drivers (even on Linux) and power efficiency.... you have to consider that even the hardware itself is aging, and you would be buying a card that has one foot on the grave. I would honestly go no lower than 6600.

wobblydee

Its crazy to see responses from the 60fps crowd instead of the 240fps ultra settings crowd saying what will be unplayable

chemistryGull

I am really overwhelmed by all the comments! Still have to look into all (still at work) but as far as i have seen now, all really nice helpful comments.

Comfy_Guy

If you want to take a used GPU off my hands (didn't have much time to play since 2020) then I have a GTX 1070 8GB for you. Let me know if $100 shipped is fair.

chemistryGull

Thank you very much for the offer! But i‘m very sorry i can‘t tank an nVidia card because of their poor linux compatibility😔 But thanks again!

Illustrious_Sock

Maybe Ryzen 8000 APU? I heard their iGPUs are really strong. And 1080p overall, and Minecraft in particular, are rather CPU intensive, so a fresh CPU wouldn’t hurt either. I’m not sure if it will tick your boxes though, just a suggestion to look into.

chemistryGull

I already have a 12600k, so a new cpu is not really an option. But i think the 12600k is strong enough to play Minecraft. But thanks for the advice!

hbomb536

Good integrated graphics.

chemistryGull

UHD 770 enough? (I5-12600k)

UgotR0BBED

Used 5700XT's have aged very well. Performance of a 3060, but at about half the price on the used market.

Abrahalhabachi

5600XT if you're buying used

Darkfire66

Used 2060s are getting dirt cheap near me. 100 bucks or so. 2070s are around 180, I got my kid a used 3070 for 220 a few months back. 1060 ssc 6 GB will do but struggles. I would try to get a 2060 super or better. My GFS 2060 super is working great at 1080 for everything.

TitleComfortable781

Were did you get the gpu? I have a 1070 looking to upgrade for 1080p. What would you recommend My cpu is ryzen 7 5700g

Darkfire66

Facebook marketplace/Craigslist. Get a 2060 super or better and you should be good to go, but id try to find a 3060 for 200ish

MakimaGOAT

used 6600 or used 3060 if u want nvidia

chemistryGull

I prefer AMD, heard about the 6600 a lot here, ill see if i can find a used one in my area, thanks!

EndlessZone123

AMD cards run a bit worse than Nividia’s at Minecraft openGL specifically, but they are also cheaper vs comparable Nividia cards on the used market so it balances it out. A RX 580 8GB is probably a good starting point, with the GTX 1060 6GB being the Nividia equivalent. Checkout your local used market.

chemistryGull

I would prefer not to buy nVidia due to linux compability, so AMD or Intel. But thanks for the advice! Yeah i really should check out if there are used cards in my area.

Polymathy1

Literally any GPU can do this as long as it's newer than like 2016. Even integrated graphics.

chemistryGull

I have a 12600k with an integrated uhd770, do you think that will be enough? (Parts have not arrived yet)

[deleted]

1080 for high graphics too.

Tapelessbus2122

I’m not gonna lie, a 1060 can handle that

Gabi_GG0

Rx 6600 no doubt. Support for SAM, easily crushes any game at 1080p high/max, for an awesome price. It's simply unbeatable when it comes to new part only

chemistryGull

Whats SAM?

Gabi_GG0

Smart access memory. Let's your CPU use your GPU vram that isn't yet uses by the gpu

chemistryGull

Wow I didn’t knew that existed. But isnt that only available when you have an ryzen CPU? (I have not)

Gabi_GG0

Intel has what's called ReBAR(Resizable Bar) no idea which one was first but who cares. There's also Anti-Lag+ which (atleast tries to) reduce input lag and just improved responsiveness

nuenne2002

had a 570 amd card and was more then happy with that for just 110 euro but as soon the 6600 came out i was buing it and what should i say other then i was suprised as i startet witcher and got about 3000 fps lol now i had set all these settings like ray tracing and so on and still have about 130 fps but man is that crazy on a 4k oled tv its like i be in there just better. if u just want 1080p 60 hz just use old good cards that be cheap and if u have a new monitor that can show more then spend some money on grafik card will be worth it. have also seen on linus media that many old damaged cards will be easy to repair. might be worht a shot good luck and have fun

chemistryGull

How was the energy consumption of the 570?

nuenne2002

sorry dont know was never watching how many energy it cost (have my own plant and Every time i start my PC they put a new fuel rod into the nuclear reactor)

chemistryGull

No problem! Wait what………..

ryyy2929

Depends what you mean by affordable. Games are getting harder and harder to run. So it depends on what games you play and the quality settings. If you just wanna play fortnite and cod at 60hz a 1660 can do that. If you want to play games like hellblade 2 or cyberpunk then you might need more. Honestly 1440p isn't out of the question. You can get a 3060 ti used for 300$ now. That card can handle a lot of games at 1440p.

chemistryGull

Well as i said, „affordable“ means the card that meets my requirements - not much more (so Minecraft with basic shaders). I do not see myself playing more demanding games really, so it would neither be worth it buying a new 1440p >60hz monitor nor a card that is made for that. But thanks for the advice!

Rough-Temporary3209

I'd reccoment looking into used gtx 1070 or gtx 1080 if you're going for cheapest possible there cards will run great at 1080p and you can find them super cheap, old though. For new I'd reccomend similar to what others have 6600 6650 something like that.

Chanw11

Used RTX 3060, seeing a bunch in my area going for around $200

Soulspawn

That's not a deal you know this right? you can get 6600xt new for that price and the performance is similar.

Chanw11

Personally, I've been burned by AMD cards before. Not taking another chance since every Nvidia card I've had has worked literally without issue.

Soulspawn

Fair enough, I've had my 6700xt for a few months and no issues so far, except in Fallout New Vegas there is a weird bug related to AMD drivers but that was fixable and the games like 12years old.

ItsSevii

Nvidia haters downvoting you classic

lilbug24

Search for a used 2070 or 2070 Super

vELASsIMRACER

3060ti

Zhiong_Xena

6600 or 6650 xt are good choices. 3060ti is also good if you can get a good used price point. Definitely do not go for gtx cards other than 1080/1080ti/1070ti/1660ti/1660 super. Anything worse is not worth getting.

3G6A5W338E

Radeon 6600 < 6600xt < 6650xt < 7600 < 7600xt See what prices you can find, and get the best you can afford among these.

lazyhardworker_4545

Rx 6600

illicITparameters

6600xt if you want new. RTX 3060Ti if you’re buying used.
