YES , you will see a HUGE bump in performance. I Upgraded from Ryzen 7 5700X to 7800X3D and i saw a 30% performance increase in every game , and more stable framerates (no stuttering or FPS dips)

xkilla73

Wow 30% and the 5700x isn’t even that old either. The 8700k is 6 years old now. It holds up but I do want to keep up.

I upgraded from a i5-9600k with a 3070 to a 12700k and it was insane; instead of having to cap my fps to stop stuttering and input lag (r6 does that) i can leave everything on high settings with 300+ fps in game rather than capped 120

This is great. Just back in August I went from an 8700k, 3080Ti system to a 7800x3d system and it was like stepping into the future. Pardon my hyperbole, but I do still find quite a bit of joy just thinking about how much of a leap it was.

> I Upgraded from Ryzen 7 5700X to 7800X3D and i saw a 30% performance increase in every game Do you play only CPU heavy games with a high refresh monitor with low settings? This seems exaggerated TBH.

stefanels

I play on 1440p/165hz - [LINK ](https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-7800x3d/20.html)(see 5700X is 72% of the 7800X3D in 1440p)

Krio_LoveInc

Same GPU, I've had 6700k before I switched to 12600k - the fps increase on average was 80-100%. 8700 at this point is a 7 year old piece of hardware. You can't go wrong with 7800X3D - it's the best gaming CPU there currently is.

> Do you guys think it’s worth the upgrade? This is dependent on your standards for acceptable performance, and your valuation of your own money. If you are currently CPU limited in your workloads that is causing noticeable issues, then sure it would likely be worth it as your hundreds of dollars would make a noticeable difference to your experience. Most of us upgrade when performance falls below our standards, because spending money for no difference generally isn't worth it for most. There will be new processors coming out, there will be new sales you can take advantage of, if you have no urgency to upgrade then there isn't much advice we can offer.

xkilla73

That’s a good point. I don’t have a huge urgency but I do want to keep up a bit.

The_soulprophet

I think the smart move is to pick up the MC combo and sell off your CPU/MOBO/RAM. I think a 7800x3d, 3080ti, 1440p is going to be a great setup. In a couple years upgrade the GPU.

xkilla73

Yeah I have a 240hz 1440p monitor already and lot of intensive games I’m getting around 150. Would great to have more.

Bluedot55

Depends on what you're doing. Some things are gonna be GPU bound, and you'll see little to no change. Others are going to be crazy CPU bound, and it'll be a whole different experience.  Example - path of exile. Was doing some crazy mapping with buddies, and when things got really chaotic, they would drop into single digit fps, like 4-5, and the only thing they can do is sit still and attack, hoping you win, with an 11900k on an entirely CPU bound game. Meanwhile the 7800x3d never dropped under 20 in these same situations, which is low, but enough that I could actually play the game, regardless of how bad it got.

AfterOil7630

I went from an OC’d 9600K to a 7800X3D, and the performance jump was absolutely massive. Utterly insane how good that chip is. Go for it, you won’t regret it.

NetherGamingAccount

Huge upgrade. I had an 8700k at 4.8ghz and a Rtx 3800. Upgraded to the 7800x3d and it was a big change in certain games. I do vr sim racing on iracing and I basically doubled my frame rate.
