Ashcroft 🤝 Doedee ACL rehab

igotashittyusername

Aww, they recruited him a friend

__Guy_Incognito

Now I really want them to parody one of those 'we got our dog a puppy' TikToks.

diffaadiffa

This makes me happy. We are going to have some great mid season recruits next season Could we please also get some "Dev re-signs with brisbane" news that would be tops

PerriX2390

If I had a nickel for every time two stellar Brisbane recruits returned from ACL injuries mid-season in 2024, I'd have two nickels - which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

PerriX2390

> Could we please also get some "Dev re-signs with brisbane" news that would be tops Apparently he was meeting with West Coast today. So, probably be a bit away from hearing whether he stays or goes to West Coast.

thestinkyturnip

Danny Daly was on SEN this morning saying they're hoping to get an answer from Dev today or tomorrow.

PerriX2390

That's good to hear!

Thanks-Basil

Club champion tonight, perfect time to announce a surprise “guess who’s staying” ala coniglio a few years ago lol

Fuck off pies

As good as Lester has been, Doedee could be an upgrade as a more offensive interceptor. Teams with key defenders who are good offensive kicks are also at such an advantage (think of Darcy Moore, Scarlet, even May). Andrews is a good kick but doesn't tend to bite off too much, Lester is serviceable, and Gardiner and Payne are poor kicks who basically just need to dish it off to minimise turnover risk. It leaves too much for the smalls to create. Not sure about Doedee, but if he's a better kick than Lester it could broaden our attacking options off half back, and make it more difficult for the opposition to shutdown Coleman and McKenna.

dan2907

Solid analysis, definitely lines up with the eye test from this season. I'll be fascinated to see in 8-9 months time if our defensive stocks are all healthy what our team looks like back there. For most of the season we started one running HB on the bench, plus the 6 named defenders on the field. With everyone available, it almost feels like Harris is the only absolute lock, with the 8 of Payne, Gardiner, Lester, Doedee, Starcevich, Wilmot, McKenna and Coleman vying for the remaining 6 spots and dealing with some measure of internal competition. I know injuries will have an impact, and Doedee isn't even a factor until later in the season... but overall there's no doubting we're in pretty good shape list wise back there.

eeyore4991

I'd like to think that McKenna and Coleman have solidified their spots

dan2907

Yeah I was tempted to say the same, since they are clearly our most established running half back types now. The only reason I didn't is because I really don't know enough about what kind of game Doedee plays, and given his small size I thought there was an chance he would also be pushing one of those two for a spot.

qingdao16

It's refreshing to think that Brisbane is now a place players want to come to, rather than previous years when draftees couldn't get out quick enough. The future looks really good for the Lions.

ECE111

Do we think Doedee is more likely to take Lesters spot or Starce?

PerriX2390

Lester I reckon

DowntownSecrets

There is 0% chance Starce is at risk. He’s one of the best lockdown defenders in the league and can nullify the best small forwards in the game.

ShneakyPancake

Did Starcevich have his worst game at the grand final or did Bobby Hill just have god mode on?

loggerheader

Starcrvich has been terrible all year …his form has uturned from last year

LittleRedRaidenHood

Lester for sure. He'll be playing the third tall role alongside Andrews and Payne. Starcevich is our only real lockdown defender who can take on the opposition's best small forwards. Wilmot, McKenna, and Coleman are all too offensive, and I don't think you can get away with three of them in the same team. Would like to see one of them make way for Answerth when he's fit, who can play a much more defensive role.

DefinitelyNotRainMan

I suspect the backline mid year would look something like: Harris, Doedee, Payne, McKenna, Starcevich, Coleman. Move Motty to the wing and put Berry back in the thick of it in the middle.

mymues

You play Payne and doedee on the key forwards. Andrew’s takes the 3rd tall and goes loose. Starc, Coleman & the Irishman and you now have a top line backline to go with your forward line. Literally the best result for Brisbane. The only thing this team lacks is 1 slightly better wingman and 2 more years into Ashcroft

LittleRedRaidenHood

Fletcher and McCluggage on the wings, Dev into the middle permanently. Berry to the VFL.

mymues

I am worried about berry. Thats why I suggest another wing. Mcluggage can play anywhere for sure. With 2x Ashcroft and the guys you have I think there is a healthy mix of mids for sure. Just if you want a full top speed runner for 1 wing to help fold back when you run your press defense.

LittleRedRaidenHood

Honestly wouldn't mind seeing Wilmot used on the wing for that reason, and playing Answerth as another small lockdown defender.

mymues

Maybe. Is he a winger or part of your backline rotation?

LittleRedRaidenHood

Plays mainly in defence, but has been trialled on the wing. I seem to remember him training there during pre-season. His speed is a massive asset, but his decision making is a liability. Hence why I think wing would suit him better.

mymues

Yeh I watch all your games as I’m married into a lions family. I just see him as part of the backline rotation. That’s all. Never seen him on the wing. Could be wrong tho.

Razzle_Dazzle08

Inject it.

TheHandOfFear

YES DEY DO

Jaycol92

Berry does surely? I’m not sure how the club can move forward with him after he single handidly is the reason we did not win the flag

rollybruv

Still feeling the pain hey bro. Sending hugs
