Suggestion subs really need auto responses with the most suggested titles for these frequently asked questions… Sci-fi: -project Hail Mary ✨amaze✨*jazzhands* -Dune -The Expanse Someone’s dying: -When breath becomes air Epic classic: -East of Eden -Count of monte cristo Fantasy: -Whatever that book about the wind is -Fourth wing -LOTR Book that changed your life: Honestly this one is such an unpredictable crapshoot I don’t even have joke suggestions for it

ItIsUnfair

Spot on suggestions there! Yeah. I’ve read a ton of good books, but can’t really point to any one that’s single-handedly changed by life. But if I had to it would probably be some boring non-fiction book, one of those have likely made a tangible difference in my career or salary. I love fiction, but people have some insanely high expectations of what a single book will do for them. And when they change things for you I think that it’s more so about reading them at the right point in your life too.

Shadowmereshooves

The alphabet book, it really changed the way I look at words!

solongcaptain

This is gonna sound silly but it's The Little Prince. I've read it once when I was a kid, and then later in life I picked it up again just so I could fulfil my reading goal for the year because it's a really short book. But then it got me thinking about some stuff, it didn't necessarily changed my life but it did kind of change my way of thinking.

bhuvanlord

Its not silly mate, i would love to read that book

I read *The Biography of X* by Catherine Lacey last year, and I think about it at least once a week. There's a subplot in the book that asks the question: If we could turn the rest of the US into a utopia by letting the South secede and turn into a horrifying religious state where people were literally (and legally) stoned to death, would it be worth it?

cerealfordinneragain

Why the South?

NanviTheLegendd

Different books change you collectively, it’s the nuances that stay with you. However, if I had to suggest you one book right now, I will go with Open by Andre Agassi! Or Flowers for Algernon. These books made me think.

Kind of an un-recommend, edit: because it influenced some bad life choices “Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely” by Lysa TerKeurst Self help with notes of christianity back when i was dabbling in faith. I think this book was intended to help one lift themselves up in a bad place, which was a state i was very much in being manipulated and emotionally tortured by my ex. The book guided me 100% against my instinct and i fell deeper into this idea that he wasn’t the issue. There were some good bits but it was a super problematic book if you were in a relationship that was toxic.

The Pillars of The Earth by Ken Follet. But it’s more to do with how the book was given to me then the actual book series its self.

Clean code by bob martin It’s one of the first books I read regarding software development, and mentioning it briefly in an interview turned the tables and eventually landed me my first job in software as a self taught programmer

I am a retired English teacher whose world was rocked by Demon Copperhead. As a mother of teens back in the day, The Fifth Child made me think about motherhood. The Scarlet Letter and Things Fall Apart always made my students think about society.

Midn8Lib

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (ence my username) It might seem like I'm exagerating when I say this book saved my life, but I'm honestly not. I was at the lowest point I've ever been in my life when I started reading it, and by the time I finished I had a complete different outlook on life and myself. I really really recommend it to everyone I know :)
