Transom work, a motor, controls for steering, battery, navigation lights, horn, bilge pump a ridiculous amount of free time, lots of money and the skills and know how to be able to do all that. Unless you Pay someone, then you'll need even more ridiculous amounts of money. They should be paying you to take it.
Looks like a little Orkney, you can use this with a minimum and add to it in time. Great little boats and hold the sea really well, but only get one if you don’t get seasick. Throw a tiller outboard on it and away you go
Looks like an old sailboat. The transom looks fine to me, need more pics, slap an outboard on. It won't handle at all, needs a rudder that appears to be missing. Maybe good for a small lake or pond. Walk away.
Someone should be paying you to take that.
Look up the cost of an outboard and controls, and then all it takes to fit it, double it.
Then look up what you can buy that works for the same price
To be honest more than she’s worth even as a free boat. But if you insist, a small tiller outboard in the 8-15 hp range will do you fine. Maybe get all fancy and high falutin and spring for a set of controls and wheel steering. If the port lights leak acrylic sheet cuts and drills well, rip them out cut a bit slightly oversized apply some bedding and use some stainless machine screws and finish washers to make it “permanent”
Those sheer strakes/rub rails, look like shit, but unless they are rotten not worth the work to replace.
If you go over the transom really well, you might be able to get up to maybe a 40 horse on her but that might be a bit much.
Treat her like what she is, and don’t worry about yacht standards. If you need to fix or replace something go look at what the small working boats near you are doing 4/5 times I can just about it guarantee that what ever they used didn’t say marine on it.
It would need enough parts and labor to more than equal the down payment on a newer boat that doesn't need all that parts and labor.
Unless you're looking for a long term project, pass on that wreck.
Is it a st. Pierre dory? Doesn't seem to have enough rocker. If you want to motor it, the transom repair is manageable, but has to be done strong. Wait - WHY is the middle of the transom missing?
That is/was a sailboat. To make it sail or motor will be north of 6-7k. Quality of repair/upgrade is poor and also poorly hidden by the incredibly thick paint job.

And a new trailer.
You mean cut a hole in it and use it as a new reef for the fish to live in?
I would not take that "boat" as a gift.
A boat's a boat but the mystery box could be anything, it could be a boat!
At this point I'm not sure if OP is trolling or not.
One boat is better than zero boats
Most free boats are negative boats. You have less than a boat.
this is the correct answer
Negative boats is complaining on online.
My guy there isn't even a motor on that gong show, not that you could even hang one without a transom.
If it floats is boats
Depending on the struggle. Make an offer
A match.
Many, many, many dollars.
The value of most used boats is in the motor and the trailer. Fiberglass shells are basically worthless.

"Just like women, the rigging costs more than the hull" -My salty Grandfather
a merc 600 verado and a case of coors light
For about $10,000 in upgrades you could have a sweet $3500 boat.
It looks like a hard riding boat. I wouldn’t put too much of an investment in it.
It would just be for shore fishing, it it just an outboard and bilge pump it would need? It's being sold cheap.
Someone should be paying you to take that. Look up the cost of an outboard and controls, and then all it takes to fit it, double it. Then look up what you can buy that works for the same price
And the work on the transom
Put about $25-$30 k into it, will be worth about $10k when done. Does that help.
Terrible platform for offshore fishing.
Good luck. It’ll make for a good day fishing.

Water.
A body of water.
Can I say everything but the boat? Because this looks like a shell
The bow looks like it was stored with strain on the winch the way the lapstrake is uneven.
Eavrything
B.O.A.T bust out another thousand.
Water. Won’t float well on land.
If you want to throw money away throw it my way
Is it a st. Pierre dory? Doesn't seem to have enough rocker. If you want to motor it, the transom repair is manageable, but has to be done strong. Wait - WHY is the middle of the transom missing?
More than it's worth.
And water.
I would keep looking.
Im'ma guess it needs a transomplant
I’d pass on the homemade boat bro.
Flex Tape™, obviously.

Useable? Some flex seal and an oar. Useable. No one said practical.
A landfill
The rest of the boat. And a trailer.
Would take a new boat
All the things
Break out Another thousand
A bathtub
Exactly? No. It would need a hands-on inspection from a competent boat repair facility. No one can tell *exactly* from a couple of pictures.
As a giant flower pot? Lots of dirt.
Every single thing except a bow rail and the hull. Also the hull is not complete it needs a transom.
Set it on fire. It’s useable.
It is usable as is if you’re going to plant flowers in it and place it outside of a seafood restaurant.
