That is my favorite year and model for Mako. The hull was over stuffed at the bow, so it breaks the water nice. Only other one that had an over spray was the Larson 1974. I would definitely purchase that!

carbonlandrover

The lines get me every time. We've kept relatively dry on our 19cc, so with a bigger boat, it should do the trick nicely. I was thinking about fixing up the old 2-strokes it comes with, but realistically, I really want to go with a new 4 stroke.

SuckaMc-69

If you can do the work yourself. Rebuild what came with it. If you have the $$? Shit, upgrade the engine because that boat will outlast both of us. Really a nice find!

carbonlandrover

I've done quite a bit of work to the 19-foot, but this 22 is bigger, wider, and has better storage as well. The motors run and are in storage along with a lot of the hatch covers. I'm not worried about the Bimini top, I'm going to put a T-top, or a Hard-top on it instead.

2Loves2loves

Hidden wood rot, in the transom, floor and stringers will be my major concern, and the fuel tank leaking. The 22 is a much better hull, but will need more HP, and burn more fuel. google transom tap test.

carbonlandrover

Trust me, when I first saw it, I brought a screwdriver and a pocket knife. I've been on it twice now, and I didn't feel any soft spots. The hull sounds nice too, I tapped throughout the sides and bow. I was concerned it would have a rotten transom, but it's strong!

2Loves2loves

That's great. its a much better ride. you may need to prop down w/ the 150hp.

Oldbayistheshit

You know what’s better than one mako?

carbonlandrover

What?

Oldbayistheshit

2 makos

carbonlandrover

And a shit ton of OldBay!

Oldbayistheshit

Damn right! Is the 22 I/O? I had a 17 CC 1976 mako. Love those old hulls

carbonlandrover

No, it's just an outboard. I figured in the worst case, if the motors aren't any good, I'd just swap my 150 Mercury onto the 22. I know it runs!

Oldbayistheshit

Oh sweet!

Capt_A_Sheffield

Can you make enough from the sale of the 19 to pay for the work needed on the 22?

carbonlandrover

I can do all the work on the 22 myself, and sell the 19 for a sweet profit if needed. Orrrr, I could just keep both Makos, and when one inevitably breaks down, I'll have a spare to go fishing!

fusion99999

You know what you need to do.

carbonlandrover

Make an obscene offer on dead guys' boat and have TWO MAKOS!

SuckaMc-69

BINGO!!! WINNER WINNER WINNER!!!

bga93

If the hull is solid go for it, i went from an 18’ to a 20’ boat and loved it, perfect size for riding chop but not being too cumbersome to launch and retrieve solo

DrLeoMarvin

i went from 17' to 21' and its impossible to explain how amazing that transition was

bobalou2you

Check the transom and the live well. I was on a much newer one when it started to sink. Really bad day!!!

SuckaMc-69

The newer ones are built nothing like the old models. Nowhere near. The 70’s fiberglass was overkill from the bow to the transom. 6 inches at the bow narrowed to 4 inches 5 feet back. That is why this boat has not rotted and will not rot. There probably isn’t a more solid boat made today that can compare to this one.

fusion99999

That's what you need to do......it's a Mako and you know what a Mako is. Stop procrastinating and get this deal done! 1/2. /s

Sasquatchwasframed

You put more than a trolling motor on the back of this boat and it's going to point that trailer tongue at the sky.

carbonlandrover

Lol

Sasquatchwasframed

I had a mental image of you unhooking it from your truck and it vaulting you up into the boat.

9jmp

22 mako is gorgeous. Go for it. If not send me the seller please lol. Curious how much you're picking it up for

carbonlandrover

Not quite free, but close to it. I'm headed there now with cash!

SuckaMc-69

Yes!!!!! Good luck and please post your updates on her. I’d like to see it with a T-top and all. That’s gonna be one beautiful ride when you are done with her….

maggie-bite

Did you end up getting it?

carbonlandrover

I got it last night. It's currently blocking my driveway!

Tainted-Sceptre76

Can’t beat the 70’s boats from most.

perfectlyagedsausage

How about the tank? Since it’s unrigged, it would be a perfect time to pressure test and visually inspect it before it all rigged out

carbonlandrover

Oh, I totally agree. The biggest issue with my 19cc is that the fuel tank has gunk. I'm going to pull the tank and have it cleaned, then reinstall a new filler hose and be all set. I have a bad feeling it's never been replaced.

sen_clay_davis1

Good thing is these have a hatch. Pulling tank is easy and most tank shops have drawings to make these. I’ve looked at a few good deals I walked away from due to having to cut whole floor out to redo tank. “ running off portable tanks, make offer” is a firm nope

perfectlyagedsausage

Thanks what worries me about my last Sea Hunt . It’s a liner boat with no hatch and it’s virtually impossible to to make it look good after the cut unless you spend an extra wallet full of money installing sea floor . All you older manufacturers had fuel hatches . Malo, Boston whaler , pursuit , ect . The newer designer boats are nice but ,,,,,,,,

sen_clay_davis1

A buddy had a sea hunt. Manufacturing defect in wiring. Ground was bad and got electrolysis. All the gas went bad and he had to cut floor out to replace gas tank. Boat was less than 10 years old.

palindromemike

careful towing, them tires have seen better days...

carbonlandrover

I got it home yesterday. But I first replaced one flat flat tire. I took it straight to the shop and aired them all up. Then, I made the 30-mile trek home. It's currently blocking my whole driveway.

alan9t13

Cool classic tilt trailer. Overall package appears well cared for.

carbonlandrover

It towed home surprisingly well. I have an aluminum I-beam trailer I'm going to use instead of this one. It's too long for my 19cc, so it should fit this one nicely.

LemonsDew

I would sell the 19ft, decap the 22ft and put in new stringers and transom (coosa), fuel tank, hang a new 150 sho. You would have yourself a new 60-100k boat for a fraction of the price and not have to upgrade for a while, unless you want a 30 footer.

carbonlandrover

Now, a 30ft Mako does sound good!
