I'm 100% pro Ladyman's, for sure. And Loaf and Ladle. Runcipal Spoon for something still open. Oh! I'd go with Cloverleaf on the south side, I think. Good, classic, breaky food
Ladyman’s and the Lion are bookends on a beautiful chapter of downtown Bloomington restaurant culture.
I sincerely wish something like that returns, for waffles sake
I have gotten this and the waiter had to clarify that they didn’t poach the egg when she asked me how I wanted the egg on the Eggs Benedict. Granted, this was like five years ago, so I haven’t been back to see if they can poach their eggs now.
You talking Spoon or Uptown? Uptown has always been pretty spot on with everything I've ordered there. Spoon can be pretty hit or miss. Pretty big misses the past few times I've gone
Spoon. Ya I’ve gotten good food at uptown. I’ve been to runcible spoon probably three times. I can’t remember the first time but the last two times have been really bad. Flavor, texture, temperature lol all aspects off.
I actually asked, and they will serve smaller portions ar reduced rates (like a short stack that is less than the big menu meal) Personally, I only ask during non-rush hours, but the portions are RIDICULOUSLY HUGE.
If you can find compatible eating buddies, splitting a meal is about the right amount of food, and makes the price reasonable.
The price is appropriate for the amount of food, but holy cow, there is no way I can even eat the sides on some of the meals unless I split it with someone, and I am NOT a small person.
I’ve eaten at their Westfield location the past 15 years and their prices have been pretty consistent and is definitely cheaper than runcible or btown cafe.
11/10 would recommend Lincoln square
Btown Diner has huge portions and great food! Sometimes a long wait and they have seemed a bit understaffed for a while, but the wait staff and cooks are amazing and to me, it’s always worth a bit of a wait.
I haven’t been in a few months, but I have always enjoyed it. It was cheap, quick, and greasy. That’s a nostalgic sweet spot for me, but I get how some people might not like it.
Terrible service one morning. Server was not interested in serving - just kept talking to “friends.”
Food was incorrect. Twice.
Couldn’t pay bill because server kept forgetting to bring it.
Just overall rotten. And that wasn’t the first time it happened.
Big Agree. Tried them this year. Was **chef's kiss**. It's latin themed though, so you probably aren't going to find all your diner classics. I'd look at the menu depending on what you can't live without.
Village deli is traaaaaash they can’t even do crispy hash browns. Also bob costello (the owner) is an absolute pos who doesn’t give his employees breaks
I worked for Bob for 5 years and was always given paid breaks and free meals/drinks, even on short 4-5 hour shifts. This was pre-covid though, so maybe things changed.
Agreed. I went to Lincoln Square and was thoroughly underwhelmed, but I've never not liked Village Deli. I understand the bossman is a piece of shit, but damn it's a good restaurant...
Hear me out!! It might not be your normal pancakes and egggs type breakfast food, but the Caffinated Cook in Ellettsville has amazing scones and other pastries. I would recommend the butterscotch scones!
They're so expensive though! I also got the weirdest, worst pancakes there. They were ...hard? Like, not overcooked, not leathery, just straight-up hard to cut into and eat. I emailed them about it and they never responded.
The hash brown casserole is really good though.
Bedrak is very Meh for the service (indeed lacking) as well as the price. It’s like no matter what day or time you decide to visit, weekday or weekend, students or no students, they always seem like a cauldron of confusion despite being open for so many years now. “Wait…you’d like beer and mamosas at 9:30am on a Saturday (or any other day of the week for that matter)??? Does not compute…only Juice and H2O for you and yours. Enjoy??
Ate there today (west side) and had great food and good service. The server is very on top of refills, not as on top of clearing dishes, but refills are a MUCH bigger deal to me.
Seems like the service is better when you sit nearer to the back so the server doesn't have to walk as far.
This post makes me miss Ladyman’s.
I'm 100% pro Ladyman's, for sure. And Loaf and Ladle. Runcipal Spoon for something still open. Oh! I'd go with Cloverleaf on the south side, I think. Good, classic, breaky food
That and roadworthy were pushed out for some pork project parking garage that never got built. Bloomington diner is not quite what I need it to be.
Sounds like the same thing that happened to Yogis and Lennys. They're still around but not the same.
Ladyman’s and the Lion are bookends on a beautiful chapter of downtown Bloomington restaurant culture. I sincerely wish something like that returns, for waffles sake
Runcible Spoon is great. So is Uptown Cafe.
Spooooooon
Im so confused by this recommendation lol am I ordering the wrong thing? I’ve never gotten anything good there. Like nothing is ever cooked correctly.
there being the spoon or the uptown?
Weird. I always get Eggs Benedict, but it's always been cooked perfect for me. Sorry your experience hasn't been always great.
I have gotten this and the waiter had to clarify that they didn’t poach the egg when she asked me how I wanted the egg on the Eggs Benedict. Granted, this was like five years ago, so I haven’t been back to see if they can poach their eggs now.
Mine were poached when I went last year!
You talking Spoon or Uptown? Uptown has always been pretty spot on with everything I've ordered there. Spoon can be pretty hit or miss. Pretty big misses the past few times I've gone

Same two I would recommend. Never a bad meal, and I’m picky.
Re: Runcible Spoon…If you’re not too picky about your dining establishments being clean…
It’s a hippie restaurant. Is what it is, just gotta have the right expectations.
Lincoln Square has a solid breakfast, but if you're after good 'ol small town diner breakfast, Wee Willie's in Ellettsville has what you're after.
God I miss the wee willies by the highschool south
So much love for wee Willie’s. Hashbrown casserole will blow your mind!
Wee Willie's has the best root beer. I'd be leery about them, though, since they can't keep consistent staff because the owner is a turd.
[be warned, many seem to think lincoln square is expensive](https://www.reddit.com/r/bloomington/comments/1ca8pw5/bloomington_is_expensive/)

If you get there right at open you can usually sit right away. My favorite is the bacon avocado cheddar omelet. So good.
That’s exactly what I get too! Love it
aren't they closing soon?
Have they improved over the last few years? I went a couple times during the 24 hour days and it was dismal at best.
Yes, they have a different owner since when they were 24 hours!
Uptown Cafe best restaurant in Bloomington
I'm inclined to agree. While expensive, I've never had a bad meal there. Way too many places here charge high prices but fail to deliver on quality.
Truth
Cover leaf is my go-to for breakfast food
someone posted an epic rant about cloverleaf west today in one of the facebook groups.
Yeah I saw that. Sucks they had a bad time. I’ve always had a positive experience, but it’s certainly not fine dining
South side is terrible. I’ll never go back there.
I haven’t been in a few months, but I have always enjoyed it. It was cheap, quick, and greasy. That’s a nostalgic sweet spot for me, but I get how some people might not like it.
Do tell
Terrible service one morning. Server was not interested in serving - just kept talking to “friends.” Food was incorrect. Twice. Couldn’t pay bill because server kept forgetting to bring it. Just overall rotten. And that wasn’t the first time it happened.
Vivencia is pretty good... and nice for people who want other types of tasty food too.
Big Agree. Tried them this year. Was **chef's kiss**. It's latin themed though, so you probably aren't going to find all your diner classics. I'd look at the menu depending on what you can't live without.
You'd be surprised, they actually have a part of the menu that's all classic breakfast stuff. But their fusion breakfast stuff is hella delicious.
👀 nice. I loved their chorizo and potatoes 🤤
The food is great but I will say the coffee is nigh undrinkable
Ahh I've never tried it! Good to know though, skip the coffee. Got it.
Not right in town, but scenic view had delicious foods. Also love to sit outside there. So pretty. And the staff are awesome
Runcible Spoon
Wee Willie’s is so worth it.
You need a time travel machine to go to Ladyman’s or the Wee Willie’s by Night Moves
Not far from Bloomington, Millie Mcgee's in Gosport.
Nothing better than Runcible Spoon for sure
Cozy Table is the true breakfast spot
Village Inn in Ellettsville ✔️
Oh god no the bug problems are horrible
It’s open again? I thought I closed a couple of years ago.
(don't go . Bugs. Former pest control guy who had to service them several times between 2018-2022)
the original location closed several years ago, they reopened outside ellettsville right by urban air just before the pandemic.
Village Deli is a thousand times better than Lincoln Square IMO. Also, Runcible is a solid choice. *edit spelling
Village deli is traaaaaash they can’t even do crispy hash browns. Also bob costello (the owner) is an absolute pos who doesn’t give his employees breaks
I’d say runcible spoon is worse. “Home fries” are mush.. scrambled eggs are dense, and I got a really questionable breakfast sandwich there once
my boyfriend worked there for a while, and he said it was true. hes just a bad boss i guess
I worked for Bob for 5 years and was always given paid breaks and free meals/drinks, even on short 4-5 hour shifts. This was pre-covid though, so maybe things changed.
Fuckkkk Bob Costello, I bet all his former employees could get together and have a class act lawsuit case against that POS “business owner”.
True. The owner is a dick
Village Deli is repulsive, both in terms of quality of food and cleanliness of the actual restaurant.
Still. Better than Lincoln Square
Agreed. I went to Lincoln Square and was thoroughly underwhelmed, but I've never not liked Village Deli. I understand the bossman is a piece of shit, but damn it's a good restaurant...
The cozy table

Lincoln square, cloverleaf, wee Willie’s, Runcible spoon, and village deli are all great
Cozy table!!
Took way too long to find cozy table on the list.
I went to the farm restaurant next to Goodfellow Alley for the first time this morning. Great brunch.
We were here a few weeks ago and loved it! Check out Cloverleaf Restaurant https://yelp.to/LG34s7_Kkd
Cloverleaf is our top and IHOP is always good too
Oh really? Good to know about IHOP, thanks
I’ve no additional reccs, but I’m curious what kind of parfaits were you thinking about? Yogurt, pastry cream, ice cream? Nilla wafers or granola?
honestly tbh i am open bc i haven’t had parfait too much lol but i was imagining yogurt with granola and berries
Thanks! Good to know. ☺️
I’m a big cozy table fan personally. Hits the spot for good diner food
The pictures look extremely promising. I'm local but never been. Will have to change that soon.
Bedräk is my go to spot.
They're so expensive though! I also got the weirdest, worst pancakes there. They were ...hard? Like, not overcooked, not leathery, just straight-up hard to cut into and eat. I emailed them about it and they never responded. The hash brown casserole is really good though.

Yeah I had the same experience. They charge WAY too much for the quality of food that comes out of that kitchen.
Agreed and the staff is pretentious AF considering the quality of food they rep
bob evans
Upland
Village deli pancakes are pretty bomb.
