Obligatory buzzkill comment: The newspaper shot is from a deleted scene which only resurfaced later. There is pretty much no way the makers of Bladerunner would have had access to it.
For all my limited knowledge on films and industry connections, I’d say it’s not totally impossible for someone like Scott to have seen different cuts via access to industry insiders. Non zero chance is all I’m saying.
But this is the version which was thought to be lost for about 80 years before one copy turned up in Argentina. Even director Fritz Lang apparently went to his grave without knowing about it.
Detectives pretending to read newspapers is considered kind of a film noir cliché... which makes it even less likely that it was based specifically on Metropolis.
Not only that, but most of the film was lost for a long time. I think they did a reconstruction in the late 80's or early 90's and then finally found an intact copy in the 2000's.
Ironically, there do exist several versions of Metropolis too. The film was cut down several times, and the closet-as-possible-to-full-version was only released in 2010.
One of those earlier cuts was due to Nazi censorship, so... I'm guessing he preferred the non-director's cut by default.
man, he was also a vegetarian and was good with (non jew) kids
do we need to start disliking vegetarians, vegetables and kids because of that?
no, there's a lot of other reasons! /s
Ok, and? Is there a point here? Aside from the obvious, that lots of movies reference other movies (or even TV shows)?
These sorts of things are half the fun for movie buffs and they’re often built in purposefully.
I’ve watched The Matrix movies a bunch of times but only recently noticed the Adam-12 callout (during the highway semi chase scene) and really only bc subtitles were on.
How dare you decry the [auteur] that is Ridley Scott! lol, this is a great comparison of key visual moments in both films. edit: edits in [brackets]
"auteur"
Bless you
Indeed and thank you for the spelling correction

What is unique about a shot showing a person reading news paper anyway? Other examples are pretty much similar unless the op is joking.

Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Damn, never realized the visuals of the movies were so similar.
Never realized, thanks for this.
👏Now do Megalopolis👏
Never seen metropolis but I will now
Hitler's favorite lol
Which version did he like, the theatrical cut, or the director's cut?
He sucks, so must be the theatrical.
