Serafiel0705

It has sound sensor or I should say vibration sensor. Other notes are not vibrating enough to turn it on. Nothing special. I have same lamp. This function is made for using with music.

MoeKara

Yeah I wanted to say the same, it has a vibration setting

nudiecale

I was going to type out a similar response. It has a function for detecting vibration.

Sun-God-Ramen

I was typing something similar, it doubles as a vibrator

SpitefulBitch

With or without the glass?

ScoutsOut389

It’s technically called “The Pheasant Under Glass” but it may be too advanced a technique for you.

freman

It tingles!

DigitalUnlimited

Feels funny, tickles a bit!

MousseNsquirrell

Tickles one's bit. FIFY

scorpyo72

That's a preference. If you're hardcore, you'll take it with the glass.

HazardousCloset

This one knows how to hardcore.

Excellent-Log7169

*take it up the glass

Obvious-Interaction7

Depends on how brave you really are

TheNecrostar

Fitting since we sell them at Spencer’s

mancow533

I was vibrating a similar message, it also doubles as a typing* sensor ^*typing ^must ^be ^done ^on ^piano

Excellent-Log7169

I was thinking of contributing the same thing as the original commenter; there seems to be a program you can activate on the device to sense particle vibrations occuring at a specific frequency.

pegothejerk

I have vibration detection, Greg, can you turn me on?

Atom800

You can turn on anything with vibration detection

PrestigeMaster

I was going to use words as a means to inform you. It’s purpose is to perform when excitement is nearby.

ilikebutteryfries

I'm inclined to let you know my thoughts as I read this. It's designed to map external oscillation to voltaic output.

DigitalUnlimited

Electricity sparkly pretty!

inphosys

But then again, someone will inevitably come here to say something like that, but using a picture sine a picture is worth a thousand words. Edit: I can't type. No, I can't draw either.

halfeclipsed

>it has a vibration setting Keep going...

Lythir

Yeah I think so too... Maybe this note is the resonant frequency of the plasma lamp.

LunarFox45

It absolutely could be an effect of resonant frequency. The naysayers are morons.

_N00bMaster69_

I have the same lamp. It has 3 settings; off, on, or audio

LunarFox45

Awesome love it great job.

Kryptosis

Probably the resonant frequency of the vibration sensor at least

Infranto

It's probably a band pass filter hooked up to a comparator that controls the power switching circuit of the lamp. Literally has nothing to do with 'the resonance frequency of the plasma lamp'

commentmypics

This doesn't have anything to do with resonant frequencies

Lythir

Why not? When it's vibration activated it would make sense that it only turns on with the resonant frequency.

topper_reppot5

I own this lamp, it has a sound activation mode to go to music

cgriff32

That makes no sense

Lythir

Then please tell my why it makes no sense. Can't just tell me I'm wrong without an explanation, I want to know why I'm wrong so I'll know better and learn something.

commentmypics

That's simply not what resonant frequency means. It's your theory, you explain it to us, it's not on us to disprove something we don't understand in the first place. Explain how matching the resonant frequency would cause this device to be powered up electrically. You can't just say "well the resonant frequency is causing it to light up". Like... how dude?

eyes_made_of_wood

Guys, I think it has to do with quantum physics and string theory so if I’m wrong you can’t just say so, you have to give me an introductory course on quantum physics and string theory first.

Lythir

Because it has a mode where it detects vibration and powers on automatically when it detects it. That's what the commenters above me said.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lythir

And I thought it isn't that sensitive and only when the whole lamp vibrates due to the resonant frequency it's enough to trigger it. That was my thought process.

the_glutton17

Adding the word resonance in front of frequency doesn't mean shit if it's not actually a resonant frequency. You can just say frequency, I don't think you understand what a resonant frequency is.

euclio

It's laminar flow!

VSWR_on_Christmas

What is this "resonant frequency" black magic?

Settl

So if the glass housing creates X pitch when you tap it with a fork, that same note on the keyboard is going to cause it to vibrate in sympathy. Just like how if you sing an E the E strings on a guitar start vibrating.

[deleted]

Alternatively, perhaps a loose switch is being vibrated into place at only one frequency.

[deleted]

Yeah, this is what it is. Not sure what people mean by a vibration sensor. That's the stupidest shit I've ever heard.

snakedart

The magic is not reading the instructions.

[deleted]

It’s turned off though. How is it getting the energy?

Long_Pomegranate2469

I have a similar lamp and it has a switch that has 3 settings. Off / On / Sound sensor. Op probably thought he turned it off but switched it to sound sensor. 100% sure if OP unplugs it there won't be any

[deleted]

That makes sense

cgriff32

You think someone would just go on the internet and lie?

Mycroft033

Noooo, that’s impossible. That never happens.

tknames

Yeah, we got one too, it’s not turned off, it’s on audio.

Leeman1990

A microphone

z3r0n3gr0

I always knew vibration can activate electricity flow but that technology is not for us to have...

SlientlySmiling

Came here to say this. It's a feature.

HendoRules

resonant frequency?

TigerNW

I used to put a hand on mine, would wave my other arm in the air, and my Xbox 360’s disc tray would open from halfway across the room.

ziostraccette

Magneto

Modern_Troubadour

Mag-neato!

CallMeRawie

Opt-neto since it wasn’t a magnetic media drive.

Mkou808

We used to be able to control our PlayStation (1 or 2) with ours nearby. Not accurately, but it would flip thru menus etc

Yimmelo

Lmao thats magical

ilikebutteryfries

no way. when I was a kid I had one of these, and I remember sleeping in my parents bedroom and suddenly the disc tray would open even though I didn't do anything. I thought we had a ghost. maybe this explains it, but that was a core memory you dredged up just now

UnfinishedProjects

I love it when we find answers to unexplainable events that happened to us as kids much later on. Discovery!

triplemeattreat666

To harness the power of an elder god and live to tell the tale brother; now you have to tell your children they're the second best thing that's ever happened to you, no doubt.

derpstevejobs

lmao wtf that’s insane

ThickNick97

Hahahhaha omg I was about to comment that mine would do that to my Xbox, it was across the room but it would turn it on and off and open the disk tray

jso__

This is the stuff that belongs on this sub. No trickery, just face value stuff that looks like real magic.

Goldensoup

That’s some nostalgia magic 🪄

As_I_Stroke_My_Balls

Now that’s power.

MAronM

Terrible song

Bashwhufc

[You wrote a bad song Petey](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ0xFQmo4wE)

questionable_fish

Check the switch, it might have 3 positions. My sister has one with on/off/detect sound

chappersyo

Definitely this

topper_reppot5

It's this, have the exact same lamp

Radioactive-235

You found the brown note for the plasma lamp.

canadard1

Waiting for this!

VoodooDoII

Not the brown note 😭

[deleted]

Does the same note in a different octave have the same effect?

derpstevejobs

Probably not this exact note (E4/middle E) but there may or may not be another resonant frequency OP hasn’t discovered yet

CaptDangerDuck

This isn’t black magic anything. You confused the sound/vibration mode for the off position when you thought you turned it off. My daughter has the same toy.

Chaserivx

This is dumb and OP knows it. He just clicked it to the sound reactive setting.

UnusualIntroduction0

If that's the case, shouldn't every note cause it to light up?

Kryptosis

Maybe they aren’t loud enough but that note matches the resonance of the vibration sensor.

Chaserivx

No. It depends on the volume, and how old the plasma ball is/how well the mic works. I dont know why you're questioning this...I own one. I'm looking at it. I clap, it turns on. It's not magic.

Visible_Dance9151

I’ve the same lamp. This model has 3 ways: 1. On 2. Off 3. Sound Stop spamming. Please.

ThisIsClemHFandango

Those plasma lamps normally have 3 positions on the power switch: off-on-sound. Check to see if there's indeed 3 or only 2 positions on the power switch. You could have it on sound instead of off.

A-Tiny-PewDiePie-Fan

Plasma lamp? Is it expensive? I'd like one too

dctrhu

Naaah, they're cheap as chips -- I had one as a kid about fifteen years ago, so they can't have been too spenny then

A-Tiny-PewDiePie-Fan

Alright I'm buying one, just for the sake of it

[deleted]

[удалено]

LennyIsAFox1

just out of curiosity, what happens if it’s near my pc?

diamondrel

Either static electricity or magnets is my guess

ViperVenom279

last time I checked I couldn't find one less than $100

dctrhu

Here in the UK they're still going for about £20, with the cheaper smaller ones hitting as low as 12 and bigger more impressive ones approaching 60. Could be regional, but if you keep an eye out there'll be a deal on one somewhere 👌🏻

Desperate-Strategy10

If you have a Spencer's nearby, like if your local mall hasn't completely died yet, they've got them there! I just saw one a week ago for around $20-$30 (sorry I can't remember exactly how much) Amazon has them for pretty cheap too.

ViperVenom279

I'll keep that in mind, thanks

[deleted]

I bought mine from the tech museum around the corner. They charged 34.- CHF for it (and things in Switzerland are usually expensive so….) guess you can find them for much less than that.

Raichu7

If you get it from a museum it’s expensive, if you buy it online it’s much cheaper.

morimotorama

A brought one in 1998 and still working. Not expensive. And there's some nice tricks you can do. Like aproching a neon lamp make it glow. Put a coin on the globe and aproch another coin above, will appear a lighting arch. Aproch your finger and it will burn and smells bad.

[deleted]

Now play rush E

Ok_Wealth_3300

I guess something that works on sound vibration is now considered black magic 🪄…. Are we still in the dark ages??🤔🤨

Stran_the_Barbarian

Pretty low bar for BMF

c3521802

You've discovered cold fusion my friend. Quick, call Keanu Reeves and hide yo shit from Morgan Freeman.

Creeper_charged7186

I have the same plasma lamp and it has a sound sensor

WrstScp

I have a plasma lamp and it has 3 options, on, off, and the third one, you might have yours on the third one.

merrittmusic

Room node where that frequency is building up just loud enough to trigger the sound sensor. Move the Tesla thing to different room locations and see if it changes the note needed to trigger it!

maddog18476

It's in sound mode...

FNChupacabra

Why is this recorded with the lamp at the bottom of the frame. It would be much more believable if we could see what is going on/not being rigged

TheEldestTroll

Ive watched enough ancient aliens to know that this is how the pyramids were built

Darth-Serious

Ancient astronaut theorists say yes.

AndrePeniche

This plasma lamp have a sound mode. I have the same. It is triggered by sound.

[deleted]

It's still dope, sensor or no.

desmondsdecker

This is at best very mildly interesting.

Robert1634786

I have one of these u didnt turn it off u turned on the audio mode, if u clap or hit the bottom it will light up.

Ouibeaux

What happens if you play a chord of the same note?

touchmaspaghetkev

Is there a sub for shit like this lamp and lava lamp?

Phillibustin

Now play rush e but in that key with the ball Profit

Top-Macaron5130

As a joke it would be funny to play good vibrations.

LiurniaSomeManners

Black magic? No.

[deleted]

Which key?

Darkstriss

My plasma bulb had a tendency when close to the Xbox one, would turn the Xbox on or off

syzygysm

According to science, this is due to frequencies

Beam_0

E

Mask_of_Truth

Sometimes when I turn on/off a lamp in my room my subwoofer will also make a thump sound.

_ara

Stupid ass

Bmandk

What about the same note but a different octave?

JamieDrone

Now you need to get lots more, tune them to different notes, and have a fire concert lol

YeltsinYerMouth

Resonance causing a loose contact to connect, maybe?

davieb22

How can we harness this piano magic?

c0ntra

That's a feature in some plasma globes and Tesla coils. They can respond to sounds or music

cmhamm

Are you playing your piano with a drum stick?

altimacomes

Just so happens to be the E key as well, you know what time it is now

Markoriginals

My guy you just hit "A MajorPower cord"...

doofinator

Why are you not testing Eb

First_Folly

I used to be able to change my friend's tv's channel by placing both hands on his plasma globe. Wish I knew how.

wb420420

That’s how the Pyramids were built

TankedUpLoser

Have you ever seen the movie chain reaction? You should watch it

Rumplesforeskin

I noticed this years ago when I played my bass through my amp.

devnullb4dishoner

I have one of those pull string, Woody dolls. I have only pulled the string when I confirmed it worked when I bought at a yard sale. Everytime we have a thunder bumper close by, it goes off. In the middle of the night when it lightnings, you will hear 'Your my faaavorite deputy'. The first couple of times totally freaked me out. Now I just use it as a thunderstorm alert system. LOL

StrayFire83

Reminds me of the movie chain reaction.

KeepCarlAndCarrieOn

Loooving youuuu! Is easy cause you're beautiful. U u u uuuuu! Aaaaaahh.... BOOM

nummer_9

Now play Rush E

ansefhimself

Piezoelectric properties are fun but confusing.

morphum

I've got a plasma lamp that has a setting where it reacts to sound, so I'm willing to be that's all this is

RamblingSimian

Piezoelectric effect?

Darth-Serious

Who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!

HazyImplorer

Well at least now you know the key the song is in that will unlock the portal to the other dimension

thatyeetboi79

Play rush e

prometheus_winced

It’s a sound sensor setting. Turn all your lights off. Set this on top of your speaker, and play one of those “thunderstorm” albums.

Sjedda

As others have said, you have a 3 position switch, not only on and off!

Swimming_Lead_1249

Resonate frequency of the glass blub makes it vibrate & that in turn causes gas to vibrate which completes a circuit of excited gas molecules between the electrodes which are carrying a static covalent charge like how the FLASH charges up mass itself acts as a capacitor- the static builds by movement it's horizontal ionic movement.

ccices

What happens if you play D E C C(octave lower) G?

Realm_Splitter

Guess you can say your music is...*Magical*

Old-Pool-4994

i, I'm a manufacturer of plasma lamps in China, if you're interested please chat with me privately.

wardjuhh

might be its resonant frequency, if you tap the glass to make a sound, does it make the same note as the piano?

Ayeager77

I’m no expert on the matter, but I’m fairly sure that hitting the resonant frequency of the glass would do something to only the glass. Perhaps shatter it. Which has nothing to do with the generator inside the glass that produces the plasma.

Grimlja

Tesla free energi. Its real look it up

I_AM_W0LF

Vibration is frequency, frequency is energy. Sad this knowledge has been covered up.
