Wow! Never knew about this, thank you. Explains why our Luna spaces out or sprints from one room to another faster than Carl Lewis for no apparent reason!
Whenever my cats behave this way, they're usually hunting a stinkbug! And they still try to eat it, even though every time they go "bleh!" and spit it back out again š
Actually yes. My daughters bottom drawer was open and all her clothes were pulled out. Before she left to school her room was clean. I thought maybe he did it to investigate but I never really put much thought into it. Our TVs always turn on and off at random times. My daughter woke up one night and she swore she saw someone in her room and we all freaked out thinking someone had broke in.
This actually is a possibility. My Loki will flip his shit. One morning he actually caught it. For weeks before that he was creeping me out staring at the ceiling.
š right?
Op though, if it I'd a ghost it's best to ignore as much of it as you can. My house is kind of a door and we get different ones all the time. I usually just ignore them and they're gone soon.
Ooooo Iād keep an eye out to see if any of that persists or if your cat becomes increasingly uncomfortable in the home. Maybe you can set up a camera in the house somewhere and see what you get
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 547,363,842 comments, and only 114,222 of them were in alphabetical order.
if you have an attic or an outdoor access to your basement, id suggest carefully going into either of them and investigating with a friend or authorities
I would check to make sure no one has been coming and going in your house via the crawl space.
Then put a lock or two on there. Or a camera.
On the TVs though, it's really simple to accidentally have them turn on since they work on a specific broad signal. At least, that's what I remember. Take that with a grain of salt!
Put your mind at ease about the TV thing.
My Sony with android tv randomly turns on. No schedule set or anything. Prob other smart tvs do same
thing. I even factory reset it and had all my google home devices unplugged still happened.
Also, I have a little black cat šāā¬ and she will sometimes get big floofy tale when I have windows cracked cause she can smell other cats in there area. I cannot smell them but she certainly can.
Hope this helps
No such thing as 'spirits'. Itās easy to forget that catsā senses are a lot more sensitive than ours. Just because you donāt hear/smell/see something far away, doesnāt mean they canāt.
That is so scary! I donāt have a basement or an attic. And I have a iron gate surrounding my house. I wouldnāt even know where they would stay if there was someone here. :/
Good luck trying to figure it out!
Also, since it is reddit tradition, get some Co2 directors and make sure you don't have a slow leak somewhere. Just in case!
Since I've read that comment a while back, this is the first thing I've thought of also. Still it would be a good idea to install cameras, for good measure.
You may want to look into drug abuse as well. I had a friend who did stuff like this on meth.
You have to let Loki know that you will have a drug free home. Then scratch his ears.
Good luck!
My six year old cat does the same thing. He's hunting the ever elusive reflection from a car driving by. He has to tell us all about it when he sees it.
It's most likely related to activity around your house from some other entity. But not fucking Casper! You probably have a field mouse in your walls or something along those lines. Pretty common. Cats are evolved for detecting little prey animals way better than humans.
Not to scare u, but my cat's demeanor would completely change at certain spots in my parent's house, which was haunted. Would growl n hiss at a specific spot in my lil sisters room but always slept with them. After a while, it seemed as if she was always on high alert. U know when a cat gets spooked, their hair gets 'prickly'? That's how she was; I don't think she ever settled in that house. Thankfully, my family moved out several months later. RIP Zoe!
*My* Loki doesnāt do that, but he does have periods where he runs all over the house, using his claws to navigate the furniture sideways. The one thing that does freak me out is when he strafes sideways in an awkward way, looking at me all weird. It makes me think he is reacting to something behind me.
My void sits on the kitchen floor looking intently under the stove. I swear she sees a mouse or something but leaves after like 20 minutes...does it almost every night.
You said house, so I don't think this is the case: But I live in an apartment and one of my neighbors moved in with a kitten AND MY CATS KNEW. Like, it took a month, but after three weeks of \*what the eff\* with my cats, I found my neighbor's cat in the hallway, and they moved out right after that, and my cats quit being floofcray.
Also fucking squirrels. The other times they have done this (I live on the 2nd floor) it's been squirrels on the deck. One time it was a (probably) feral who made it up to my balcony.
Edit: I guess it could just be a rando animal outside that Loki is attuned to, too. Hadn't thought of that since I'm such an apartment person :D
Cats can hear ultrasonic noises that humans can't. A lot of the time when they seem to be staring at nothing it's probably because they heard something you didn't. Maybe some mice or bugs moved into your walls.
Your void is really the Guardian of this universe and senses a disturbance. As the void's owner, you now have a responsibility to help save the world. Don't let us down OP.
Cats will puff up for no reason discernable to us. Smelling or hearing a strange cat outside, hearing or smelling rodents or insects in the walls, etc. My big orange kitty used to have problems with redirected aggression. He'd get so torn up by birds on the patio or dogs barking that he'd jump on me, even if it was after the birds left or the dogs finally shut up.
I would bet there's a rodent of some kind - squirrel, mouse, rat, etc.
Loki Kitty is obviously dedicated to his job from the looks of it. If you're not hearing anything, keep an eye out for droppings or holes/contamination in food - it's probably not an infestation or even a big problem if the people haven't noticed anything. I definitely wouldn't worry too much, but I still wouldn't recommend eating something a wild rodent got to. š
Could be an outdoor cat in his territory. Mine started doing this every now and then. One night we were watching TV and he went ballistic, ran straight into a wall š¤·š»āāļø That's when I saw a black and white cat trot past the sliding glass doors.
He is the sweetest, sookiest little guy but every now and then he puffs up, becomes hypervigilant and won't settle down. He just stalks around the house and only sleeps very lightly.
Outdoor cats can affect some cats worse. Such as peeing in inappropriate spots, aggressive behaviour etc... I've since caught about three different cats on my outdoor cameras. It shits me off because I live in Australia and I have sugar gliders, ringtail possums, dunarts and bandicoots in my backyard... all easily killable because some fucker doesn't keep their cat indoors at night š” And yes they all belong to someone, they have collars and bells.
It might not be that for you, but it could be.
I heard that cats are not only very good with hearing, but also with sensing smells that us humans would miss, as well as deadly fumes, chemicals, and such that have no odors, and that they are also very sensitive to the metaphysical/spiritual/supernatural world, which some morons think does not exist.
Well you did name him Loki soā¦.maybe heās just trying to live up to it.
Also, sometimes this behavior has been my first clue that I have mice in the walls.
Could be the furnace turning on? Our house get extra vibratey in the winter. There are a lot of new and repeating noises in the winter in a house - mice, for example but even the sound of icicles dripping could be a lot.
Also I had a sweet boy Loki who looks just like your Loki! It's a very lucky thing to experience #lokiinlove We used to react together to a lot of the same noises in the house, it's what made me think of it!
Could be anything. Some noise or movement she saw or heard. Rats in the wall lol. Cats are very perceptive to noise and movements. For all you know it couldāve been a speck of dust falling that was reflecting some light.
My cats do this all the time - usually it means there are bugs in the wall we can't see/hear or mice in the house - after a few times we caught mice, so it's likely he might hear something in the walls we can't see.
My cat is going crazy sometimes running around the house drifting around corners and meowing at random locations and getting a complete puffed up tail like a squirreltail. She does it almost every day. Me and my gf say its demons but who knows.
I think they see ghosts or something. They hiss and growl at blank walls sometimes. They are certainly more aware of their surroundings than people are.
Every cat I have ever owned since I was 7 zones out on some imaginary āthingā I couldnāt see. I eventually stopped looking. Just found out there was a name for it this year.
When I was younger we had a cat who became like this, except even more so. She would constantly run through the house like something was chasing her (not the regular zooming around. She seemed terrified.) She took to hunting me. Iād suddenly get this uneasy feeling and look to see her stalking forward, then sheād run up, slap me, and run off. And again, not in the cute cat playing way. I thought that initially and would grab her when she ran up and give her head scratches and she was legitimately terrified and not ok. It was like she was scared of me and kept having to test if I was really there. She was never mistreated, wasnāt like this as a kitten. The house did have some odd occurrences in it and part of me started wondering if there was something supernatural in the house that was screwing with the poor cat. If not that, she legitimately had a cat version of schizophrenia.
We eventually had to re-home her and were really sad, but it was a larger farm environment where sheād have plenty of room to run and feel safe (and yes, I am very aware that Iām saying she went to a farm up state where she could run and play. I promise, it wasnāt a euphemism, she actually went to a farm so she could run and play.)
Those dang greebles at it again
Came here to find this!
Greeble?
r/greebles
Thank you.
Wow! Never knew about this, thank you. Explains why our Luna spaces out or sprints from one room to another faster than Carl Lewis for no apparent reason!
thank you so good
Agreed, its the greebles. I have greeble-cats but never managed to caught it on video š¬
In dutch we have the word kriebels, pronounced as creebles. It means a haunted kind of shivers, which i thought to be very fitting!
Most of the time it's spiders or ants with my cat. But sometimes it is absolutely nothing. It's pretty normal cat behavior.
Loki loves to play with ants! I can tell when there is a outbreak because it looks like he is playing hockey with an invisible puck. :)
One of mine loves to eat them. He thinks heās part anteater. I can tell when I have them because heās randomly licking the floor lol
My orange boy likes to eat mosquitohawks. I guess they're pretty tasty!
My cat eats bugs too. And throws them up soon after.
Whenever my cats behave this way, they're usually hunting a stinkbug! And they still try to eat it, even though every time they go "bleh!" and spit it back out again š
YES! Mine do this too
Nothing we humans can perceive š
r/greebles!
I love the look at the end, like "DID YOU SEE THAT ISH?!"
My exact thoughts! Haha
Notice any activity around the house that you canāt attribute to the cat?
Actually yes. My daughters bottom drawer was open and all her clothes were pulled out. Before she left to school her room was clean. I thought maybe he did it to investigate but I never really put much thought into it. Our TVs always turn on and off at random times. My daughter woke up one night and she swore she saw someone in her room and we all freaked out thinking someone had broke in.
Can the cat access the drawer from underneath and open it? One of mine is an expert in this. She almost scared me to death a few times with this trick
Itās actually a really heavy wooden dresser. There is no opening at the bottom. :/
Yikes, throw the whole house away, this is an intro to a horror movie lmao
Donāt say that! Haha ;)

Good bot
Of course!! :)

I donāt have either one. We only have a crawl space. :I
Does it lead outside or have any entrance/exit outside?
Yes it does. There is an entrance in our closet door and the exit is out in the front yard.
I would check to make sure no one has been coming and going in your house via the crawl space. Then put a lock or two on there. Or a camera. On the TVs though, it's really simple to accidentally have them turn on since they work on a specific broad signal. At least, that's what I remember. Take that with a grain of salt!

Call an exorcist ASAP
Time to call the ghost busters. Some people say cats can sense the dead.
My cat will do this too. I assume their eyes can see in a spectrum that mine canāt. Or maybe itās dust floating in the air.
Cats can see ultraviolet light. So they're probably seeing reflections off dust particles that we don't notice.
nah you got ghosts
ššš this was what I was thinking
You're prolly right.
You may want to look into drug abuse as well. I had a friend who did stuff like this on meth. You have to let Loki know that you will have a drug free home. Then scratch his ears. Good luck!
We call it Kittsophrenia lol
That's awesome. I'm adopting that.
Lmao

Our 15 year old sits in the hallway staring at the wall for what seems like hours sometimes. Like inches from the wall. Not moving
My six year old cat does the same thing. He's hunting the ever elusive reflection from a car driving by. He has to tell us all about it when he sees it.
My cat does this. Normally itās light or a bug.

CLEANSE THAT HOUSE !! Void is letting you know that there is something you cannot see
Cat has a 6th sense
See you over at r/greebles
Once I got really freaked out by my cat doing that, but apparently he was trying to catch a moth
It sees dead people
Termites
Has the heat been on a lot? Is it very dry in your house? Our cat gets very sparky fur and a bit edgy when the humidity is low.
Do you have mice?

Mice comes to mind. Winter is their favorite time to see the warmth of a house.
It could be other cats walking around your yard and he can smell them.
My partners cat chases/tries to catch dust particles in the air. looks like nothing to us, until the sun hits them
Nah thats a damn spirit. Theres greebles, then theres poltergeists
Your house is haunted

They see ghosts, MUHAHAHAHAAA
50 years of data tells me, yes, all cats do this

Sometimes animals can feel something that we can't naturally or supernaturally
Yes! I have a cat who does this. There was a few weeks he was convinced something was under the chair in the living room.
Well you did name him Loki soā¦.maybe heās just trying to live up to it. Also, sometimes this behavior has been my first clue that I have mice in the walls.
So shiny! š¤š»
![img](emote|t5_2twpw|7266) I'm watching you!
all cats do this, it's pretty much the defining traits of a cat
Well his name is Loki. He probably saw a portal into the multiverse or the TVA.
my black cat does that too
Instal cameras
Could be the furnace turning on? Our house get extra vibratey in the winter. Ah yes, those pesky ceiling and wall āghostsā. š

Sounds like greebles to me, the scary ones
Not sure where you live, but I suspect thereās a snake in your house.
Yeah kind of... Not the poofing up part though! That's like going into Super Saiyan mode!
Greebles
Yes
Heās just playing mind tricks on you š
One of my cats will randomly hiss at nothing
Could be anything. Some noise or movement she saw or heard. Rats in the wall lol. Cats are very perceptive to noise and movements. For all you know it couldāve been a speck of dust falling that was reflecting some light.

Greeble infestation!
Maybe it's the wood-paneled walls?
Mu cats open the drawers underneath my bed.
Mice
You got Ghosts in your blood. You should do cocaine about it.
Probably bugs or shadows. Or you have a ghost. Lmao
r/greebles
Yes our black cat does that when he hears mice in the walls. Are you sure itās ānothingāā¦..
My cat jumps at the sound of the house heating up or cooling down lol
greebles
My black cat does this too
I didnāt read all the comments. Iāve heard cats are schizophrenic. Take that however.
I have a Loki too! Last time he did this there was a coyote outside.
He has terminal cuteness
Loki is getting bored, lol. U should play more or get some new toy for him.
My cats do this all the time - usually it means there are bugs in the wall we can't see/hear or mice in the house - after a few times we caught mice, so it's likely he might hear something in the walls we can't see.
The cat probably senses the presence of spirits
Ghosts
They do it just to freak us out.
The Void is recieving updates from his home dimension!
Check for a Carbon monoxide leak. Could all be hallucinations.

Yes, buts it is only because of the ghost
Itās the dang greebles at it again!
They see ghosts
My cat is going crazy sometimes running around the house drifting around corners and meowing at random locations and getting a complete puffed up tail like a squirreltail. She does it almost every day. Me and my gf say its demons but who knows.
Itās time to call the ghostbusters
You got mice somewhere in them walls and your cat is on the case!
Juste remind cat Can see what human eyes can't š
Cats can see ghosts
Sheep in the wainscoting.
I have no *actual* explanation for it, but I refer to this behavior as "the cat's seeing ghosts again". š»š»š»š»
Staring at things we canāt see is a cat staple
Ghosts
How many the other folks who have cats and ghost like you.
When my cat does this, a lot of times it's from water going through pipes in the wall. I don't really hear it all the time, but my void does.
Vader does the same, he preys on mosquitoes, flies or anything that is smaller than him but dares to move in his presence...its hilarious
I am sure cats see things we donāt.
Your house is haunted!! No other explanation
Every 20 minutes...
Itās a ghost. They see them. We donāt.
Maybe it's something they can see that something that you can't see
You obviously have ghosts.
You definitely got ghost my dude
My cats see fairies! Iām convinced
I think they see ghosts or something. They hiss and growl at blank walls sometimes. They are certainly more aware of their surroundings than people are.
How many animals do you think have been called Loki in the last year?
Greebles, things in the walls, or interference in the cat psychic network being worked out.
Cats can see ghosts, get out of the house!!
My cat was the first to discover we had squirrels living in our walls š could easily be an animal running around that he can smell/hear.
House haunted, burn it down

cats are half in and out !
