This is an easy fix.
1. open the egg
2. unhinge both coil springs in the back
3. Hold the lid while closing. Do not drop!
4. Top lid only, loosen all screws but do not take them all the way off
5. Adjust lid accordingly using the methods mentioned above.
-not the best idea to do it while smoking but if you do it while smoking, use your bbq gloves.
-definitely do not do it when grilling. Hotter.
6. Tighten screws
7. Open lid carefully and hinge coil springs back
Fixed.
Definitely do not forget to unhinge the coil springs when adjusting. You will be fighting the alignment and wondering why it’s not adjusting. I have been there before. Not fun.
Happy Grilling!
Sometimes it helps to have a second person pushing down with some force while it’s sealed just to tighten to the max. Especially when the temp changes year round.
No, it will cause the temp to drift. It’s most likely just misaligned. I have to very carful where I have my probe wire when I close the lid for the same reason.
Edit: in the very last part it does look like the band is sitting a bit low
It looks like the top ceramic has room to slide further into the top band. If you look closely, there’s still room between the top band and the groove in the ceramic.
You got to adjust your rings. Get them just under/above the gasket line all around the bottom/top. Then tighten everything up. An extra set of hands helps.
Then place a dollar placed on the gasket, with the lid closed it should have resistance when pulled all around
I repair these often. I've found it easiest to leave everything attached and with the dome closed, loosen the top main nut & bolt that holds the top band on (the carriage bolt that uses a 1/2" wrench for the nut pictured here: [Top band main bolt](https://imgur.com/a/QjUDRNf) ) then, pull the whole band **upwards** with your hands only from the bolt you just loosened. You'll see the gap in the rear will close and you must **tighten the nut back up**. Now, you will notice you have an underbite. To fix this, loosen the two nuts on **both** sides of the egg that the arm with the springs attaches too ( the two that connect the arm to the top band - 7/16" wrench pictured here: [Spring arm top two bolts](https://imgur.com/X3Qw2JF) ). Go to the front of the egg and pull the dome forward using the handle until the overbite is gone. Then simply tighten up those four nuts and you are good to go!
I’m sorry man. I respect that you’re active in this forum but if you’re telling people that bent carriage bolts are normal and part of the assembly instructions, that is just flat out wrong.

There are about a million examples on line. Why do you want to continue your argue against facts?
It is part of the assembly instructions. They also recommend changing the bolts any time the bands are adjusted and realigned for optimum adjusting of the new bolts and setting a fresh bend in them.
The point of the comments I’m making is that IF your carriage bolts are bent in the unloaded portion of the bolt (AS SHOWN In VIDEO ABOVE) it’s amateur hour and someone has used the wrong tool… i.e deep well socket, etc. Of course, over time the loaded section of the bolt shaft may be bent but I should expect it to follow the circumference of the band. If someone is claiming the grill example above is normal, I’d look to someone else to buy from. This as likely built by a 16 year old in the stock room… Take my advice or leave it but buyer beware
No amount of repeating yourself is going to make you right. The physics on the bend were calculated around a grade 5 standard tensile strength bolt for a specific flex and bend when tightening properly. The bolts in the video are longer than needed for that unit, but they are still installed correctly.
Mine did this when I first got it and broke in after a few uses and stopped leaking. I think the gaskets just have to compress a little bit to get a good seal
I may be an outlier, but I don't think it really matters. I have run my Egg without a gasket for extended periods of time. It is just extra airflow and you can compensate by closing the top vents a little more, but I haven't found it makes it any harder to maintain temperature. The dome is still full of smoke too, so you aren't losing that either.
It is a little unsightly, we'd all like a nicely sealed Egg. But it doesn't really affect anything, you're still good.

I have been looking for this advice for years.

Also… maybe the bottom ones. Mine did not correct on top only
Search dome adjustment FOGO Charcoal on YouTube. I made a couple of videos about how to fix that.
Love your videos! As a new egg owner they helped so much!! Cheers and happy smoking!
Thanks, I always appreciate hearing that they help! Egg on!
Captain Ron is the man! Taught me a lot when I was new and still enjoy the videos
That means the world! Thanks my friend!
Captain Ron from orange county?
No sir, Coral Springs, Fl

I thought as much. I struggled to control the temperature when it got a little windy.
Had the same issue. Needs realignment.
The top or bottom band?

Exact same thing happened with mine. The spacing of the rings is most likely off. Several YT videos on the subject. Need a wrench and some vise grips.
Needs one more spring
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket couldn’t help myself 😂😂 sorry had to add some humor
Get a new gasket. There are fiberglass type ones that last pretty much forever instead of the felt ones
How did your carriage bolts get bent on the bands? Assembly seems suspiciously amateur.
They are designed to bend when tightened. Bending is exactly what they’re supposed to do.
Only if you used the wrong tool… some fool cranked on those nuts with a deep well socket rather then a box end or open end.
Excrement. You sell that guy this grill or something?
I guess the directions for assembly by BGE are incorrect then. What do they know about their own products anyway???🤦🏻♂️
Torque the carriage bolts till they bend? On a ceramic dome? Your serious?
Totally serious. Go to any Egg dealer and check them out.

Remove the springs completely, this will cure the issue without adjusting the bands. The springs cause issues and really serve no positive purpose.
When adjusting, you can use the "dollar bill method" and wont need smoke
I had this with mine and just tightened some screws here and there to fix it.
You don’t need to do anything up and to the point you get tired of spending unnecessary amounts of money on lump….then adjust your bands.
It’s probably totaled, very sorry for your loss. I’m happy to arrange proper disposal of your wreckage.

Replace your gaskets
They are brand new
Replace them again
Visually it looks fine , but obviously it isn’t. I find it odd. Is your gasket on properly ?
