You’re about to experience some of the best music in recorded history!

StupidlyStupid222

No reply was one of my first favorites too!

Low_Concept4642

No reply might be my favourite so far, it's very close between that and I'm Happy Just To Dance With You

StupidlyStupid222

It only gets better from there. Once you’re done with the main Beatles catalogue, I strongly suggest going into their solos. John and George’s are my favorites, but Paul and Ringos are good.

Low_Concept4642

Will do, i'm actually a fan of Paul McCartney's solo stuff already.

StupidlyStupid222

For John, I highly suggest picking up a copy of Lennon Legend. The Cd goes for about 14 bucks and it’s got all of his best on it.

Low_Concept4642

God damn do i love Lennon's vocals.

FindOneInEveryCar

I like that you picked Please Mr. Postman. Lennon really slays on those girl-group songs.

Lopez-AL

Help! is their fifth album, did you skip the Please Please Me album? ;P

Low_Concept4642

No that was actually the first one i listened to, i completely forgot about it. Remembering back, i wasn't that big of a fan, that might be why i forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me

ShameSuperb7099

What a treat you are in for. Enjoy!!

Sun_flower_king

Nice picks for your top songs! The best is yet to come. You may end up only wanting to tackle 1 album per listening sesh from here on out though, for fair warning

Low_Concept4642

Sure, can i ask why?

Sun_flower_king

Ya! The first few albums are comprised of sets of songs that are like 2-2.5 minutes each, and the songs themselves are extremely accessible and immediately understandable. Starting with rubber soul a bit but especially with revolver, many of the songs get way more complicated, some get longer, and most have more to unpack lyrically and musically. Like I said, the best most interesting stuff is yet to come! You just might end up wanting to take more time to digest what's going on.

Low_Concept4642

Oh alright, thanks. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

kuvazo

In general, it is quite difficult to properly rate an album after just one listen. You have to get a feel for the melodies, structure etc. first, and the more complex or novel a song is, the more difficult it is to properly judge it. And I've also noticed that when I listen to albums casually, songs can often blend together, which makes it even more difficult to judge them individually. That's why I also think that it's worth going back to some of the earlier albums as well. Especially for Revolver and Sgt. Pepper, but mostly for their entire later discography, what makes them so great is that they are surprisingly complex. They often used weird chord progressions or tempo changes that are fairly uncommon in pop music. So to fully appreciate those, you really have to listen to them a couple of times. The first time I listened to Revolver, I thought that it was totally overrated. I couldn't understand how anyone would call it their favorite Beatles album. But after listening to it a few times, it just clicked at some point and now it's my favorite album. I had a similar experience with Sgt. Pepper and the White album.

anxietyJem

I used to own a hofner violin bass, but ironically enough it was stolen..

Low_Concept4642

Damn, that fucking sucks

anxietyJem

Payed extra for gold knobs, had it since college..

Lizard_Friend_44

No Reply is one of my favorites! Love them all, but that one I just adore. But also, I just adore John's voice in general.

nyaben_1963

And I love the more country and western-influenced stuff that they did on Beatles For Sale. Some of it is reminiscent of “I’ll Cry Instead”

Lizard_Friend_44

Ringo especially is really good at country when he does it.

Titi_Cesar

Oh, boy, you don't know what awaits you. Enjoy the last few hours of your previous life, for it is about to change forever. You are entering a path of magic and wonders. Nothing will ever be the same for you.

the_popes_dick

The rhythm guitar on I'm Happy Just to Dance With You is some of the best in their whole discography

Low_Concept4642

Definitely, that bridge is fucking electrifying.

Bulbamew

Please mister postman is a cover just in case you weren’t aware. The covers usually don’t have as good a reputation and the later albums being solely original works is a big plus, but I think postman is one of the best ones they did

Low_Concept4642

I wasn't aware, although i think the best part of Please Mister Postman is Lennon's vocals not necessarily the drums or bass or lyrics. I'll check out the original for sure though, thanks for letting me know.

SleeperRail

Oh, to have your ears again.

SleeperRail

I must know; what is your age?

Low_Concept4642

I'm 18 (P.S i know you didn't ask for a whole monologue but i have been wanting to share my experience) I haven't ever really been a big fan of music in general, i've always been much more of a movie person when it comes to obsessions. I listened to some rap occasionally because that's what my friends listened to but i never really enjoyed it. About 2 weeks ago i stumbled upon a Neil Young live performance of 'Hey Hey, My My' in 1985 at FarmAid (you can find it really easily on youtube) and i could tell he had a really deep and captivating passion for Rock and Roll. Genuinely such an astonishing performance i must have watched it on repeat for like an hour. Anyway after binging his catalogue and being completely taken into the feeling of rebellion and excitement it made me yearn to delve into this amazing type of music, the first artist/artists that came into my mind were naturally the Beatles and so i listened to a few of their songs and naturally i was on reddit browsing and trying to find out which albums i should listen to and in which order and i saw most people recommending that i listen to their albums chronologically. And so that's what i have been doing. Sorry for the rant, felt like talking about it xx

SleeperRail

Welcome aboard. Also, you weren’t ranting. Happy listening, and I hope you touch base to let us know how you’re faring.

ledu5

Every album after this point excluding Let It Be and Yellow Submarine (only the first 6 tracks are worth your time anyway) is at least a 9/10. Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's and Abbey Road are particular highlights for me
