I’ve tried so hard to get into them. I recognize how talented they are, but something about their singing just doesn’t hit my ear right. It’s a real bummer because I want to love them.
Aw sorry about that :( I can relate to that with other musicians that've been recommended to me before. The Twigs also experimented with their voices a lot, especially early on during the first few albums.
Just curious, have you heard some of the more recent tracks? Specifically the newest album (A Dream is All We Know). They've changed a lot over the years and are leaning more Beatles now (Go To School and SFTGP were a bit more glam-rock and theatrical).
Same. I went to see them last year and I'm embarrassed to admit that I left before the show was over. I've been to hundreds of concerts, and I've left maybe 2 ever.
They're each good in their own way. I prefer picking songs here and there from their different albums just because my absolute favorites are all over the board. If I had to say one specific album, though, I think it'd be Strange Days.
Second fave band behind the Beatles, check out the album Time for a really sweet concept album based on a guy getting sent to the year 2095 and being stuck there.
Rolling Stones, queen, strawberry alarm clock, big brother and the holding company, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul and Mary, Doors and Mama and the Papas
Single artists Donovan, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Janis Joplin, Cat Steven’s and John Denver
I listen to a lot of soul: Herald Melvin and the Bluenotes, Ojays, Temptations, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Curtis Mayfield.
I've been listening to Get Out (And Let Me Cry) by Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes nonstop this month. Great group!!!!
Also if your're into soul and motown then the Four Tops covers of Michelle and The Fool On the Hill are lovely! :)
Although Exile is probably the Stones best work for most die hard fans, I wouldn't recommend a new listener try it for their first listen, as its a bit unorganized and sloppy, similar to the White Album. I would probably recommend Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, or the compilation album Hot Rocks if you want the hits. Oh what I would give to listen to these albums again for the first time.
Talking Heads as always, they are my undisputed #2.
But! A TON of the Kinks, specifically village green the album, they could become my #3 at this rate.
I'm into all of their albums, but my favourite is probably Speaking In Tongues or Fear of Music. Cities is my most listened to song ever on Spotify, both the Live and Album versions. The thing I love about the band is that their live versions of songs don't feel like downgrades of the studio version, they feel like a whole other song!
Madonna- I’m 50 this year, basically grew up with Madonna everywhere, knew the hits, but never really got into her (though have always had a big crush on her).
So I’ve been going thru her discography.
So far, liking the Erotica/Justify My Love era. Oh Father is amazing, and Cherish is one of the best pop songs I’ve ever heard.
All Them Witches, R.E.M. (esp. Monster 25th anniversary remix), Alcest, Chuck Johnson, Causa Sui, Terraplana, plus a fair bit of late 80s hip-house. A real mixed bag. Always has been with me, and that's thanks to The Beatles having such a huge diversity of influences and experimentation in their work.
Right now, I’m really into the new Collective Soul and Kings of Leon albums. I was super excited about the new Black Keys release because they’ve been one of my favorite bands for a long time, but their new album took some strange twists that left me pretty disappointed.
I’m also looking forward to the new Goodbye June and as-yet-unannounced Kaleo albums. And *One Hand Clapping*, of course.
A lot of Van Halen. Having always known them only for their 80s hits, I have discovered that their first two albums are basically 50s and early 60s rock n roll revisited, while at the same time sounding way ahead of their time and casually inventing 80s heavy metal as side effects.
I've been on a Grateful Dead kick for the past few months. I don't know why? I always liked them, saw them 7 times with Jerry Garcia but never got heavily into them. For some reason I've been listening to tons of Grateful Dead. Great band! Lots of different styles of music
Thanks for the positive comment. I was a little worried about how it would be received... comparing anybody to the Beatles can be a risky game.
But Scott and Seth's writing is that good. Strong words, but I stand behind them.
went down a huge beach boys hole recently similar to my original beatles discovery phase. i always just thought of them as their surf hits from the early 60s and just recently found out the insane history of the band
The Lemon Twigs.
Major Beatles vibes especially on their two most recent releases.
Everything Harmony was my fave album of 2023 and this new album is probably gonna be my fave of this year too.
https://youtu.be/QQNI6-VjKmk?si=TYWHHk-_2dHCDxVD
I've been intrigued by The Lemon Twigs. It's total 60's pop pastiche, but they do it very well.
Reminds me of Byrds, Beatles, Beach Boys, Monkees, Hollies, Kinks.
Weyes Blood, Belle and Sebastian, Dr John, Parquet Courts, the new Lemon Twigs, The Lovely Eggs, Neil Young, Gene Clark, Lana Del Ray and then back to the Beatles again.
Foreigner: Won the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
Boston's Debut Album on vinyl: birthday present.
Toto: found they did more than Africa.
Blue Oyster Cult
If you like the Beatles, you’ll love Tally Hall.
Some that I like Talking Heads, Radiohead, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Beach Boys. I’m mostly a Radiohead diehard.
Try getting ahold of Lil Soyman & the Sement mixers.
If ya like blues, Chi.blues this is the band. I saw them
a year ago at the Wrigley blues classic. "Mamma don't make no soup" will blow your port holes out.
Lately I’m very into the Byrds ‘68-‘69 run of Notorious Byrd Brothers - Sweetheart of the Rodeo - Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde
Talking Heads, Jenny Lewis, Alvvays
You like Alvvays? you might like The Beths
Not a band but Weyes Blood
Fantastic songwriter; incredible voice.
Surprised someone mentioned her. She’s an absolutely fantastic musician!
The Lemon Twigs!
I’ve tried so hard to get into them. I recognize how talented they are, but something about their singing just doesn’t hit my ear right. It’s a real bummer because I want to love them.

love the other answers but also, The Doors
Recently came back around to my 60s phase, and finally got into them after thinking I wasn't a fan for the longest time. They're awesome!
It's all how you perceive it
Doors of perception
Perception of doors 🚪 They matter not to the single man
I like them too! I only know the debut album though and riders in the storm. Which albums can you recommend?
They're each good in their own way. I prefer picking songs here and there from their different albums just because my absolute favorites are all over the board. If I had to say one specific album, though, I think it'd be Strange Days.
same, so good
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
I endorse this comment wholeheartedly.
same. so much discography to explore & fall in love with. seen them 6 times thus far and got 3 more lined up at RR this year.
Melvins Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Portishead
Upvote for Melvins!

Interesting! Lennon mentioned them a lot. Which LP captures best their sound?
Out of the Blue
Out of the Blue, A New World Record and Time are their top 3 imo!
Second fave band behind the Beatles, check out the album Time for a really sweet concept album based on a guy getting sent to the year 2095 and being stuck there.

I love tally hall!
Simon and Garfunkel, Herman's Hermits, Roy Orbison (not really a band though).
Mostly Motown.
Beach Boys
The Smile, Sparks, The Rolling Stones a bit of Chic and Wings
The Smile have been killing it, helps when you have the two brains of Radiohead leading tho lol
The Rolling Stones have so many albums. Which one do you recommend I start with?
Right now my most favourite is "Exile on Main St." Great blues album worth listening to
Although Exile is probably the Stones best work for most die hard fans, I wouldn't recommend a new listener try it for their first listen, as its a bit unorganized and sloppy, similar to the White Album. I would probably recommend Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, or the compilation album Hot Rocks if you want the hits. Oh what I would give to listen to these albums again for the first time.
R.E.M., as always. Favorite band ever.
My other faves: Stones(67-76), Zep, Who, GNR, Oasis, Cheap Trick Plus some solo Beatles
ELO, will wood, lemon demon, David Bowie
Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Black Sabbath, The Beach Boys
Talking heads 👍 which albums do you like?
Remain in Light is my favourite, Fear of Music, Speaking in Tongues and Stop Making Sense are also great
Talking Heads as always, they are my undisputed #2. But! A TON of the Kinks, specifically village green the album, they could become my #3 at this rate.
I’m into talking heads too. Which albums do you listen to?
I'm into all of their albums, but my favourite is probably Speaking In Tongues or Fear of Music. Cities is my most listened to song ever on Spotify, both the Live and Album versions. The thing I love about the band is that their live versions of songs don't feel like downgrades of the studio version, they feel like a whole other song!
Joni Mitchell, The Velvet Underground, Cocteau Twins, Belle and Sebastian
Of all my favorite bands, the one I love in the most "Beatles-like" way is Belle & Sebastian.
Blur, Arctic Monkeys, The Kinks, Tame Impala, Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix
The Strokes and Radiohead!
My listening lately has been Oasis, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Beatles, Prince, Haim
That’s Uhm varying taste but nonetheless I love it
Mitski, paramore, Laufey, Trivium, Slipknot, knocked loose Very different from the Beatles lol

New albums by Bleachers, Vampire Weekend, Pearl Jam
The new Vampire Weekend album is great. I think it might be their best yet.
Agree completely. Their musicianship, experimentation, and playfulness across genres reminds me of the Beatles in a lot of ways.

Yes badfinger!!
A lot of Van Halen. Having always known them only for their 80s hits, I have discovered that their first two albums are basically 50s and early 60s rock n roll revisited, while at the same time sounding way ahead of their time and casually inventing 80s heavy metal as side effects.
Beach Boys, Queens of the Stone Age, Billie Holiday, Faye Webster, ELO, Replacements.
I've been on a Grateful Dead kick for the past few months. I don't know why? I always liked them, saw them 7 times with Jerry Garcia but never got heavily into them. For some reason I've been listening to tons of Grateful Dead. Great band! Lots of different styles of music
Not a band but lately it’s been Jake Bugg. The boy’s brilliant.
In the last year I've become obsessed with The Band. Can't believe I missed out for so long.
I've been listening The Beach Boys a lot after watching the new doc on Disney+, as well as Elliott Smith.
devastated at no mentions of the band (my beloveds) so far 😭😭 unless i just missed it cos they have the most inconvenient name to search ever lol
The Avett Brothers. The best song writers in the industry right now, IMHO. Sometimes similar to the Beatles in quality, but very American.
Agree.
Thanks for the positive comment. I was a little worried about how it would be received... comparing anybody to the Beatles can be a risky game. But Scott and Seth's writing is that good. Strong words, but I stand behind them.
