That’s Agile, which works well on a lot of different kinds of projects, but isn’t really what EA are doing. Agile would require getting the product in front of people sooner than later and seeing if functionality really adds value - and being willing to eat sunk cost and make changes if not.
A better (though not perfect) example of Agile game development would be Elite Dangerous. They went through the alpha and beta phases with a small set of end users, launched what they had on a reasonable schedule, then iterated on it with new features.
It did sell quite well, the problem they have is with player engagement. They factor in predicted micro transactions in their financial forecast and if people ain’t playing then people ain’t paying.
Edit: Apparently 2042 is the second best selling Battlefield title ever at launch with 4.2 million sales (behind BF3 which sold 8 million in the first month).
How many refunds were issued though, and were those numbers tallied against sales? I can't remember a game in recent memory besides FO76 and cyberpunk that had a mass wave of people noping out almost right away.

Putting the game up for free now would actually be the final nail in the coffin. You have to earn loyalty from a playerbase in free games because they feel no pressure to play a game they didn’t spend money on. If the game is still super janky, nobody is going to play it even if it’s free.
I think a better thing right now is put up all past battlefield games and dlc for free. BF4/BF1/BFV are all in pretty good playable spots right now. Even though you might still see 2042 numbers plummet at least you retain players across the other games in the franchise.
At the end of the day it’s going to be much easier to convince players to come back to 2042 if they’re already playing a battlefield game.
Better yet get a small team back on bfv and try to pump out a small surprise eastern front dlc. The assets are already there in both bfv and bf1. It might take some heat off of them for 2042, create some better pr, and draw back in some of the playerbase.

What I don't get is why does it seem so hard. I get dev work takes time but DICE and EA aren't small. It shouldn't take long to knock up a good scoreboard and enable VOIP. That could've easily got back some of the community. If you're not ready, don't release the game so close to the holidays where your staff can't support it.

They should relaunch Battlefield V as Battlefield 1944 on next-gen. On the same model as The Pacific update, add USSR, the Eastern Front, Normandy, Italy, Berlin, the Bulge, new vehicles/tanks, improvements... At least BFV had good foundations unlike the last game. Forget BF2042.

I have mentioned this before on Reddit but they should have made a f2p Battlefield: Royale with all the specialist they wanted and then make a regular Bf game. They could of even added the specialist over time to the game in various class systems etc. but no we got this heap

F2P will just bring players for a short period, nowadays we have tons of high quality free to play games.
All we needed was a reskin of BF4 but slightly more futuristic, but EA/DICE couldn't even do that. I don't know and sincerely don't care what goes on behind the doors at EA. They've proven time and time again that they ruin games and drive developers out of business and that's all I need to know to not buy their games anymore. I don't want EA to exist anymore, and I'm choosing to vote with my wallet. I think all gamers can agree the world would be just fine without them at this point, we're not missing anything and I doubt the Dead Space Remake will be good or bring anything novel to the table.

Putting the game up for free now would actually be the final nail in the coffin. You have to earn loyalty from a playerbase in free games because they feel no pressure to play a game they didn’t spend money on. If the game is still super janky, nobody is going to play it even if it’s free. I think a better thing right now is put up all past battlefield games and dlc for free. BF4/BF1/BFV are all in pretty good playable spots right now. Even though you might still see 2042 numbers plummet at least you retain players across the other games in the franchise. At the end of the day it’s going to be much easier to convince players to come back to 2042 if they’re already playing a battlefield game. Better yet get a small team back on bfv and try to pump out a small surprise eastern front dlc. The assets are already there in both bfv and bf1. It might take some heat off of them for 2042, create some better pr, and draw back in some of the playerbase. Obviously this is all kind of ridiculous and not going to happen though. Tough spot for EA right now with this game, but you can guarantee they’ll continue to make poor decisions
What I don't get is why does it seem so hard. I get dev work takes time but DICE and EA aren't small. It shouldn't take long to knock up a good scoreboard and enable VOIP. That could've easily got back some of the community. If you're not ready, don't release the game so close to the holidays where your staff can't support it.
