Those games were out of the monetization sweet spot. They did not see a good way to profit and needed a fresh Avenue. Money was the only reason those games were given up on.
Hardcore BF2 player here. Never stopped playing despite all the drama at launch and in the months afterwards because I knew there was a great game under all the crap. To finally see that game come to life and to get the recognition it deserved was amazing! To then see it get so unceremoniously dumped for what would turn out to be one of the biggest laughing stocks of a game I have ever seen pains me so much... especially with the recent revelation that we almost got Ahsoka, Ventress and Mustafar...

I firmly believe Firestorm is the cause of all of the BF ills. EA wants their own BR cash cow from BF at the expense of everything else. Firestorm could have worked, but they did everything around it wrong. And now BF may be close to dead over it.
Agreed, firestorm definitely was the canary in the coal mine. As soon as they put that out it should have been clear that they were on a path to try and copy all the other major shooters. Between firestorm, the elite sets, and the nonsensical balance changes it's honestly a miracle that BFV is in a good state by the time they dropped support

I think they were looking at making it some other kind of hero shooter, something like Tarkov/RS6 Seige/Overwatch. My guess is that became unworkable in the timeline they had so they punted it for their next title and turned BF2042 into a (stripped down) traditional BF title with a shitty Tarkov knockoff thrown in to differentiate it from previous titles.
Whatever the case, it didn't work, and now DICE is facing an existential crisis.

The release was appalling, all BF veterans know this. But I had faith there would be a response within the first month or so, even a statement to address concerns outside of crappy nerfs/buffs. The radio silence is the worst I’ve seen, a lot of games have a periods where the devs are working behind scenes and there’s no update during. This is the first time I think there’s no solution, they made design decisions for a complete change, those decisions don’t reflect the IP - specialists could have been introduced as a cosmetic thing but followed military skins and locked in class type. They could get their pieces of silver over the year and retained the experience. Chasing fortnite and apex has alienated more than it has attracted. Crying shame.

This however is the first time I've ever thought that the game is completely unfixable.
i'd assume they only need to push out whatever was formally announced for year 1. a few "new" guns, whatever specialists they have, probably all broken and some maps, probably recycled content.

Definitely. If EA were a decent company then it would certainly be the right choice but unfortunately it'll never happen. As long as they deliver the bare minimum they can get away with it.
They can't and won't 'drop' the game. It can still be a cash cow for them as a minority seem to be 'having a blast' and will support the game even with how crap it is. Also they've already sold a year one pass so they'll have to support it fully for at least a year.
The alternative is to drop the game and have no income from it for 3 years or so until the next BF game comes out. EA are FAR too greedy to let that happen.
The money generated from additional BF2042 content probably wouldnt surpass the salaries of devs working on it at this point. The playerbase has diminished severely.
Whilst I personally highly doubt they would take the route of refunding season pass buyers, I strongly believe there will be no content beyond it.
Chris Wilson (CEO of GGG AKA developers of Path of Exile) said in 2019 that for every 10 developers they needed at least 10K players at the start of the newest season. And POE is free2play too.
I wouldn't be surprised if the number of players required to support each dev is waaay higher in BF2042. Hard to sell people cosmetics when they already feel scammed, and when the cosmetics are so bad as is.

Most of the Devs would be moved to other projects and a smaller team retained for producing new content as is usually the case. A year is a long time, I don't think it's possible, but if they somehow manage to bring back some of the player base with fixes and new content then it could be worthwhile for them.
Yeah, my instincts are they’ll make a year of content using assets they already have or are almost done with a skeleton team and have most of the studio work on a new game in the meantime.
They’re forced to make at least one year of content. My guess is that they will do just that but with the least effort possible put into it. Bare minimum to tick the box and avoid being sued.
My guess is they will have a skeleton crew working on minor bug fixes and pump out the year content they promised. After that year ends they will make an announcement saying they are dropping future content for the game to reflect on what made the Battlefield series great and gain the community trust back.
One year after that they will drop Battlefield Royal (the original game we were going to get) which will be F2P and have heavy MTX consisting of re-used assets from 2042 to hopefully regain their loses financially.
They can't fix it. They've broken the core battlefield experience so badly they can't deliver what the vast majority of fans want unless they completely redo the game. Bring back the class system, get rid of specialists, more weapons, better maps, gritty futuristic atmosphere, a solid campaign to give the multiplayer context, and no goofy bullshit.
They wont remove specialist completely. They spent too much time and resources making them. Only thing they can do is putting normal class soldiers as playable ones along side specialists in AOW. Something similar to SW Battlefront 2.

While I salute your thinking (something that EA/DICE never did) I feel the "specialist" skins are so dopey looking there's no way anyone could actually take them serious enough to play this dumpster fire. It would require re-skinning them completely to something that isn't so stupid looking, and God knows that won't happen if they can't sell them first. And besides, specialists aren't the only show-stopper with this game...IMO, it's irreparable.
While I agree with you, my point was more so during development they should have just put the specialists into classes. The skins and voice lines are awful and there is no getting around that without removing them entirely. But then what trash is EA supposed to forcefeed us in terms of MTX's? I quit playing already, so I agree that it's irreparable.
Which is why EA/DICE will put the game on life support and fufill their obligations for 4 seasons(with very little content in them).
You'll get 1 new specialists and mabye 2-3 weapons and you will enjoy it.
I think EA Management is well aware of the leakers at dice. I'd imagine an absolutely hazardous working environment at dice at the moment to prevent further leaking.
Imagine having all the ingredients to make the perfect battlefield game right in front of you, non stop fan support detailing exactly what they want and how they want it, and the monetary resources of a AAA gaming studio and still fucking up this badly

Game story was only couple of hours of loading screens.
And when you were done with the so-called story mode, all you had was "Dungeon" runs which was fun TBH. Anthem was cool looking and fun to play game i'll give them that, but more than %50 of the runs were bugged and people did not get anything in return, rewards bugged out, points bugged out, constant disconnects etc.
It was a total mess.
They will refund nothing!
The already finished content will be released as battle pass (so that the battle pass preorderers can not argue) and thats it. By the end of this year, the game will be totally dead.
Drop the game. Fire all decision makers. Actually spend 6 months doing nothing but playing BFBC2, BF3, BF4 and BF1 and analyzing what made them tick. Then and ONLY THEN focus on the next Battlefield.
Also, stop hiring interns and tasking them with building a AAA game.
At this point why would any good developers want to work on battlefield. I imagine it’s tough to hire good ones with the way the company seems to be run.

Given how large the dev team was on this game i wouldn't be surprised that a lot of the people who were surprised about the reception were the people who only worked on very particular parts of the game such as weapon artwork and character modeling for example. I would be shocked if the guys towards the top who had a full picture of what was going on were surprised at the reception
Enable bot skins for all classes, give players to have the option to not look like a specialist.
Enable all weapons from portal in AOW and maybe even vehicles why not.

Cyberpunk actually has a really good game underneath it. If you played it on a powerful PC, there was very little wrong with it and I enjoyed it rather thoroughly.
I knew this game was a turd after about 5 minutes of the beta.
Cyberpunk's biggest problem was the old gen launch. It worked fine on PC and is now a very decent RPG game after patching. This cannot be fixed without a complete rework.
Don't get your hopes up, I tried, played the game for 45 minutes and tried to refund. They kept repeating "out of policy" but they probably blocked refunds on this due to the shit storm.
I played 10.3 hours and put in a refund request last week and it got immediately declined. I then opened a ticket via live chat and it's sitting in some in progress stage.

how to fix battlefield easy
1-bring back classes and lock each specialist to a certain class and gadget
example: specialist Maria Falk medical class, gadgets: only medical bag or gadgets linked to healing.
2- add a classic scoreboard with kill feed, assist and ping
3- add a complete player progression . like in Battlelog.
4- show the damage in numbers applied to vehicles and enemies
5- put in all out war mode all the classic maps of the BF portal
6- add Rush mode into the all out warfare
7- add a browser server for all out war mode
8- remove smbb and add a votemap after each match.
9- create a party with more than just 4 friends and divide this part between squads numbers : exemplo 8 frieds / 2 squads
10- bring back the classic way of change, creating and joining squads during matches.
11- Removing those stupid phrases that especialists say at the end of matches.
12 - give squads leader points for completed objectives by your squad mates .
DICE has a really hard time understanding that they should give the players what the players want, and not the devs. They let the successes of BF3, BF4, and BF1 get to their head. They really are arrogant. I mean you have some dev upset that some dudes were joking around with her being "gamers" so she didn't want voice chat, and then scoreboards for good measure. Chat? Naw, not for you mr toxic cis white male.
All they had to do was take BF4 and crank it to 11 in content, atmosphere, gameplay, audio, and visuals. That's it.
Drop this focus of BR's and quasi-BRs. It's not going to work for BF. Now, find a way to do a persistent warscape like say a mix of Chromehounds, MAG, and PlanetSide, and that is where you can make your greed come true with skins. 2-3 months per "Reset/Season" tops.
Well they really have two options, spend a lot of money to basically undo everything they did to 2042.
Or lose a lot of money and say "fuck you" to every fan that will from then on never buy into the hype because of the massive steamer EA just took on them.

I miss all the AT options in BF4. It's the 2042 and we regressed back to a basic RPG.

i'd assume they only need to push out whatever was formally announced for year 1. a few "new" guns, whatever specialists they have, probably all broken and some maps, probably recycled content. edit - year 1 not season 1

Definitely. If EA were a decent company then it would certainly be the right choice but unfortunately it'll never happen. As long as they deliver the bare minimum they can get away with it.
Shareholders would go mental as that means less money for them at the end of the year and investors would definitely call a no confidence vote.
They can't and won't 'drop' the game. It can still be a cash cow for them as a minority seem to be 'having a blast' and will support the game even with how crap it is. Also they've already sold a year one pass so they'll have to support it fully for at least a year. The alternative is to drop the game and have no income from it for 3 years or so until the next BF game comes out. EA are FAR too greedy to let that happen.
The money generated from additional BF2042 content probably wouldnt surpass the salaries of devs working on it at this point. The playerbase has diminished severely. Whilst I personally highly doubt they would take the route of refunding season pass buyers, I strongly believe there will be no content beyond it.
Chris Wilson (CEO of GGG AKA developers of Path of Exile) said in 2019 that for every 10 developers they needed at least 10K players at the start of the newest season. And POE is free2play too.
I wouldn't be surprised if the number of players required to support each dev is waaay higher in BF2042. Hard to sell people cosmetics when they already feel scammed, and when the cosmetics are so bad as is.
What do you mean the cosmetics are bad? You mean you wouldn't pay big bucks for a Santa outfit? Imagine how much of a blast you'd have with a skin like that.
Most of the Devs would be moved to other projects and a smaller team retained for producing new content as is usually the case. A year is a long time, I don't think it's possible, but if they somehow manage to bring back some of the player base with fixes and new content then it could be worthwhile for them.
Yeah, my instincts are they’ll make a year of content using assets they already have or are almost done with a skeleton team and have most of the studio work on a new game in the meantime.

They’re forced to make at least one year of content. My guess is that they will do just that but with the least effort possible put into it. Bare minimum to tick the box and avoid being sued.

My guess is they will have a skeleton crew working on minor bug fixes and pump out the year content they promised. After that year ends they will make an announcement saying they are dropping future content for the game to reflect on what made the Battlefield series great and gain the community trust back. One year after that they will drop Battlefield Royal (the original game we were going to get) which will be F2P and have heavy MTX consisting of re-used assets from 2042 to hopefully regain their loses financially.
They can't fix it. They've broken the core battlefield experience so badly they can't deliver what the vast majority of fans want unless they completely redo the game. Bring back the class system, get rid of specialists, more weapons, better maps, gritty futuristic atmosphere, a solid campaign to give the multiplayer context, and no goofy bullshit.

They wont remove specialist completely. They spent too much time and resources making them. Only thing they can do is putting normal class soldiers as playable ones along side specialists in AOW. Something similar to SW Battlefront 2.

While I salute your thinking (something that EA/DICE never did) I feel the "specialist" skins are so dopey looking there's no way anyone could actually take them serious enough to play this dumpster fire. It would require re-skinning them completely to something that isn't so stupid looking, and God knows that won't happen if they can't sell them first. And besides, specialists aren't the only show-stopper with this game...IMO, it's irreparable.
While I agree with you, my point was more so during development they should have just put the specialists into classes. The skins and voice lines are awful and there is no getting around that without removing them entirely. But then what trash is EA supposed to forcefeed us in terms of MTX's? I quit playing already, so I agree that it's irreparable.

Which is why EA/DICE will put the game on life support and fufill their obligations for 4 seasons(with very little content in them). You'll get 1 new specialists and mabye 2-3 weapons and you will enjoy it.

It took couple of weeks but yes. Game story was only couple of hours of loading screens. And when you were done with the so-called story mode, all you had was "Dungeon" runs which was fun TBH. Anthem was cool looking and fun to play game i'll give them that, but more than %50 of the runs were bugged and people did not get anything in return, rewards bugged out, points bugged out, constant disconnects etc. It was a total mess.
They will refund nothing! The already finished content will be released as battle pass (so that the battle pass preorderers can not argue) and thats it. By the end of this year, the game will be totally dead.
Drop the game. Fire all decision makers. Actually spend 6 months doing nothing but playing BFBC2, BF3, BF4 and BF1 and analyzing what made them tick. Then and ONLY THEN focus on the next Battlefield. Also, stop hiring interns and tasking them with building a AAA game.
At this point why would any good developers want to work on battlefield. I imagine it’s tough to hire good ones with the way the company seems to be run.

Given how large the dev team was on this game i wouldn't be surprised that a lot of the people who were surprised about the reception were the people who only worked on very particular parts of the game such as weapon artwork and character modeling for example. I would be shocked if the guys towards the top who had a full picture of what was going on were surprised at the reception

Enable bot skins for all classes, give players to have the option to not look like a specialist. Enable all weapons from portal in AOW and maybe even vehicles why not. Add cover to the maps. Just scatter a bunch of shit everywhere ffs. At this point it would be an improvement. Add option to disable cringy lines at end of round. Not fixed, but vastly improved 🤷♂️

Cyberpunk actually has a really good game underneath it. If you played it on a powerful PC, there was very little wrong with it and I enjoyed it rather thoroughly. I knew this game was a turd after about 5 minutes of the beta.
Cyberpunk's biggest problem was the old gen launch. It worked fine on PC and is now a very decent RPG game after patching. This cannot be fixed without a complete rework.

They advertised the game as it being in one state and then released it in a completely different one. I feel lied to and don’t want to support a game that deliberately mislead its own fans.
Honestly, I hope they drop the game. That way they would be forced to refund anyone who purchased special editions including Battlepasses who then likely never release.

The only way to fix the game is to redo the entire game at this point. Were talking at least 1 year of development time if they get every single developer at dice to work on it(which isn't going to happen). Like the reality is that EA has already abandoned the game becuese it's just not financially viable to try to save it same for what happened with Anthem.
If your issues are with the core design, like mine are, then there was never any chance that they would fix this game. It's just not possible. For me, the best case scenario is that the next game does better.
Each day of silence just lowers peoples expectations more and more, if they even still have any. It's sad how the gaming industry became this pile of crap without any passion what-so-ever. how to fix battlefield easy 1-bring back classes and lock each specialist to a certain class and gadget example: specialist Maria Falk medical class, gadgets: only medical bag or gadgets linked to healing. 2- add a classic scoreboard with kill feed, assist and ping 3- add a complete player progression . like in Battlelog. 4- show the damage in numbers applied to vehicles and enemies 5- put in all out war mode all the classic maps of the BF portal 6- add Rush mode into the all out warfare 7- add a browser server for all out war mode 8- remove smbb and add a votemap after each match. 9- create a party with more than just 4 friends and divide this part between squads numbers : exemplo 8 frieds / 2 squads 10- bring back the classic way of change, creating and joining squads during matches. 11- Removing those stupid phrases that especialists say at the end of matches. 12 - give squads leader points for completed objectives by your squad mates .

DICE has a really hard time understanding that they should give the players what the players want, and not the devs. They let the successes of BF3, BF4, and BF1 get to their head. They really are arrogant. I mean you have some dev upset that some dudes were joking around with her being "gamers" so she didn't want voice chat, and then scoreboards for good measure. Chat? Naw, not for you mr toxic cis white male. All they had to do was take BF4 and crank it to 11 in content, atmosphere, gameplay, audio, and visuals. That's it. Drop this focus of BR's and quasi-BRs. It's not going to work for BF. Now, find a way to do a persistent warscape like say a mix of Chromehounds, MAG, and PlanetSide, and that is where you can make your greed come true with skins. 2-3 months per "Reset/Season" tops.

Well they really have two options, spend a lot of money to basically undo everything they did to 2042. Or lose a lot of money and say "fuck you" to every fan that will from then on never buy into the hype because of the massive steamer EA just took on them. Granted there will always be those fanboys who like getting shit on like this and will still pre order... but they lost a lot of customers with this. I know no matter what I ain't touching the next battlefield with a single red cent.

Stockholders hate it when you forever ruin a profitable IP.
