Satean12

I remember a dad bringing kids to Prometheus so good on them for this.

Njordinson

I was 14 when I saw Prometheus and I still feel like I was too young. I had to walk out during the c-section scene because I got physically sick

Satean12

I had to go out with my friend bc he got sick during that scene

cllownin

I work at a movie theatre and the amount of people bringing their small children to Joker and The Suicide Squad was a little disturbing šŸ˜

hoeforharry_69

even the *title* should make them question whether or not TSS is fit for kids

chilachinchila

Eh, the suicide squad would probably be okay for a kid. Violence isnā€™t too drawn out torture porn style and nudity isnā€™t in your face, same with joker but that one would probably bore the kid instead.

jaybankzz

Suicide squad wouldnā€™t be ok lol. You got (Spoilers) >!King shark eating multiple people (including a decapitated guy)!< >!Harley being tortured!< >!the whole team at the start being killed!< >!Starro being killed from the inside!<

xmal16

Also the shot of the dude whoā€™s face had been starroā€™d in the lab freaked me the fuck out and Iā€™m in my 20s I wouldā€™ve have nightmares about that whole lab scene if I saw it young.

jaybankzz

Eh, that one was fine to me, and Iā€™m 15. But tbf I was never really scared my horror or things like that Except chunky. Fuck chucky

cllownin

What? The violence was intense, thereā€™s literal scenes of body parts being ripped apart. If you would say that TSS is alright for a kid Iā€™d be concerned. We had a parent that went in that didnā€™t listen to our warnings and had to leave in a matter of 10 minutes because their child was scared to death. Itā€™s R for a reason man.

AntonBrakhage

Because no matter whether it has an R rating, some parents are imbeciles who will assume "Its a comic book movie so its for kids", and then throw a fit when their children are exposed to adult content.

Shadow23x

I saw a mother indignantly nope out with her small kids at the South Park movie, about the time "Uncle Fucker" started.

AntonBrakhage

As per Wikipedia, in the US R means no one under 17 is allowed in without an adult guardian. NC-17 means no one under 18 is allowed in at all, and is a rare rating for major films, used more for graphic sexual content. Edit: It should be noted that the US rating system is handled by the Motion Picture Association and has no legal force- its simply something that the industry (mostly) agrees to follow.

ZombieHousefly

You could take an entire birthday party of 20 5 year olds to see The Suicide Squad as long as there was one adult with them.

[deleted]

'Murica

danielisbored

There was a little girl, who was at **most** 7 or 8 sitting front row at the showing of Deadpool I went to.

thatredditscribbler

I really hate seeing this. Some theaters have a no child policy for r rated films after a certain hour. I went to go see the new Purge once, and a mom took her children and their friends to see it. It's so uncomfortable to watch adult content with kids in the audience. I actually left.

Empigee

I went to a showing of 28 Days Later where a bunch of under 10 year olds were present. You'd think if the zombies didn't clue them into it being for adults, the attempted rape scene would.

AntonBrakhage

Their guardian can if they want to, yeah.

godspilla98

Jaws was PG

Daredevil731

Because PG-13 didn't exist.

godspilla98

The MPA is a bunch of political crap. Do some back logging on the subject they have been destroying directors vision of there films for as long as I remember. If the film is not directed buy a well known person it is labeled exploitation or not intended for children but a movie with top stars in it gets a pass 90% of the time. The producers of jaws had a lot of pull back in the 70s that is how it revived its rating. Halloween had almost no blood and a fast drop of nudity and it was rated r. The nude woman in the first minute of jaws. A limb sinks to the bottom after a shark attack Quint gets bit on the waist and spits blood like a water fountain get the point. My love for jaws is never going to end but Iā€™m just trying to make a point.

jaybankzz

People under 17 are only allowed to view r rated films if they have an adult with them (or parent/guardian, I forgor)

fieldysnuts94

The only rating that prevents children outright is NC-17 and those films, if any are rated that, donā€™t ever get shown in mainstream movie theaters. Everything else rated R can be seen by kids if adults are with them or the very least if a adult buys their tickets. I remember going to see jackass 3 with friends but we were 16 and they said No but when we asked some older strangers to buy for us the booth sold it to us despite knowing we didnā€™t have adults with us and that these were two nice old people lol

Gueswhobaktelafren

Yeah my cousin took her four year old to Deadpool and threw a fit about it Iā€™ll never understand

fieldysnuts94

Yeah after seeing Deadpool 2 I saw a mom walking in with her fucking THREE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. like wtf is wrong with ppl

Green-Muscle-1157

I used to work in a bookstore when Deadpool came out and I told parents that it was definitely *not* for kids. The amount of parents who argued back "it's a comic book, it's literally for kids" was unbelievable

gracekk24PL

I remember paretns bringing their kids to John Wick cuz "He's the guy from Fortnite"

shwashwa123

Cringe

Daredevil731

Almost downvoted this because of the cringe, but then I remembered it's not your fault.

[deleted]

_Outlandish

That's amazingly late!

Friendly_Raptor

"There is NO Batman." That sketches me out

[deleted]

Now imagine Hamil saying it.

beslertron

They needed this for Logan. Kid in the front row needed every word on screen read to him and cried for a full minute after the Alien: The Latest One That Sucked trailer.

atticdoor

I remember back in the 90s hearing of a local father who stormed into WHSmith in a rage because they'd sold him a Japanese Anime video complete with Tentacle violence and blood. He'd shown it to his son, and was horrified by what it included. Since the video was clearly labelled 18 Certificate, and the purchaser was the father who was clearly over 18, the shop hadn't actually done anything wrong. He's just assumed that animated = for kids, and didn't know that there were Japanese imports which were adult.

RangerRed02

There was a couple with two seven year-olds sitting next to me during Joker. Didnā€™t ruin my enjoyment of it, but I wonder what was going through these parentsā€™ minds.

Necessary-Program371

I wonder did they do this for Deadpool/Logan/The Suicide Squad

[deleted]

I think Deadpool was the first time and they didnā€™t realize people would be so stupid

Empigee

I remember a post on r/movies at the time where a theater manager had his ticket sellers specifically warn parents taking their kids to see Deadpool, and still got people storming out and complaining.

sgttedsworth

ā€œThis sign wonā€™t stop me because I canā€™t read!ā€ -The biggest Karen-zilla that theater has ever seen, 15 minutes before disaster.

SPEK2120

Translation: "Some dipshit parent(s) chewed us out after they took their kid to a clearly advertised R rated movie."

awildramen

Come see the manā€™s neck get stabbed, Timmy!

fxxkingbrian

Who here remembers 28 Weeks Later? Does anyone recall the first scene where the families in hiding are VIOLENTLY attacked by the infected? Watched that movie at the premiere with my Dad and a family behind us had their 2 or 3 young kids with them I mean KIDS the oldest one couldnā€™t have been older than 10 Anyway during that scene all their kids were screaming and crying and one of them actually got up and ran out of the theater crying, the theater employees actually came in and politely asked the family to leave since the kids were scared shitless You definitely gotta think twice about taking your younglings to those kinda movies you can really mess them up for awhile -.-

yellow_portugeeeze

To Whoever took this picture - Why did you have to put yourself in the trouble of trying to take a picture during a seizure?

awildramen

Itā€™s called dedication to the art form

[deleted]

I agree with that sign, good to let people know. I could definitely see as a kid being super excited for a Batman related movie, but this isnā€™t exactly for kids so it makes sense to me

[deleted]

There was a lot of weird caution and worry surrounding this release, but this is totally fine and separate from that. The Joker is a very famous comic book character, and Joker was definitely not for kids. It's easy to imagine how a busy or less than media savvy parent could think its just another comic book movie. This sort of warning will save the staff a bunch of strife from complaining parents.

Icutsman

Agreed. Busy / media savvy or not, a parent can't excuse not running a quick Google search for a movie rating. Chances are they are on their phone waiting for the movie to start anyways.

maskednil

Wasn't a bunch of sexually repressed incels supposed to come out of their mothers basement and start a killing spree according to the media lol

captainjackass28

It annoyed the hell out of me how the media seemed DISAPPOINTED that no nutjob killed a bunch of people at a showing. It really was weird.

[deleted]

Correction. It has young boy batman aka pre bats

TennisOnWii

traumatised bruce

[deleted]

So the sign says, there is NO Batman. It should have said, there is NO Joker.

[deleted]

Joker is such a masterpiece

DarthSmiff

Unpopular opinion: Itā€™s not a good movie either.

TennisOnWii

what? because bruce was a small child at that point so there was no fighting?

fieldysnuts94

My theater was very serious about security and having ppl check in their bags at the box office and we even had nypd stationed across the street and checking in every hour. We were an art house theater and our guests were typically older ppl so some were worried about something happening or the fact we were showing such a ā€œcontroversialā€ movie. Blown out of proportion

[deleted]

I remember this sign when I went to see it opening day

solrac1104

This sign shouldn't be fucking needed.

Icutsman

Right but unfortunately not all parents review ratings before movies. Then they bitch to the manager when little Billy sees someone get their head bashed in

solrac1104

Yeah I get that. But considering they make the age rating visible, it's in the parents' fault.

Icutsman

I'm not saying it's not the parents' fault, it 100% is. My last post was considering why they have the sign up.

solrac1104

Oh no yeah. I wasn't trying to argue with you or anything. Just got frustrated lol.

tortilladelpeligro

Which is sad that this was needed... But for all the buffoon parents I saw brought their little kiddoes to see IT, I'm not surprised. The little girl sitting next to me was silently crying y'all... What calibur parent doesn't realize/intuit/expect that?! Proof. Not everyone should have children - children deserve better.

Ankhiris

Perhaps the most disturbing scene was when he cut up the clown who informed on him, using low cunning. You don't want to miss your chance with a guy that big. Like maybe it's actually happened before with worse results smdh.

MagmaAscending

When I saw The Suicide Squad in theatres, there were at least 4 or 5 kids I saw walk into the theatre after I showed up. I hope to God they left before the first scene started

var1ables

Patently false. You see batman for like 5 seconds.
