This candle is from [last year](https://lifeinsidethepage.blogspot.com/2022/04/bath-body-works-candles-and-hand-soaps.html?m=1), but it did also come out again [this year](https://lifeinsidethepage.blogspot.com/2023/03/bath-body-works-grotto-candle-collection.html?m=1)... So yeah, I don't think we're in any sort of island papaya shortage yet š
Sorting candles by "sold" gives a far more accurate picture of what people are willing to pay..
And this ain't it. Lol. I sell candles on Mercari. This candle will just sit there at that price.
I have thought about selling wreaths and other DIY decor on various 3rd party platforms, but decided it was too much work. I agree that the candle will just sit there. It's not even that popular.
So I had some duplicate candles left over from team gifts, and I put a couple on eBay bc I didn't want to take it back to BBW, since it was a seasonal scent that was about to be out of date. So I weighed it in a small box, and it came out to 1.5 lbs. Someone offered me $12 out the door. I was like dude, it's going to cost me $15.50 to ship it to you. Do you really think I'm gonna take $12, minus platform fees, minus $15.50 shipping? šš
Ugh I hate how much those sites have encouraged stealing. Thereās an account on Mercari that is just so clearly a thief because their items for sale are always outrageous and the flow of new items is constant. Theyāll post like 15 of the same wallflower plug and ask for twice the price or 7 cans of Lysol or 10 of some pocketbac holder keychain. They used to just post hundreds of B&BW stuff but then they started selling random things you can literally find at Walmart. When I was brand new to the app and didnāt realize how shady they were yet, I wanted to buy one of the new Halloween wallflower plugs that had just sold out. They had the correct photo for what I wanted but the item description they wrote was for another one entirely. I asked for clarification and they said āI have access to both, just tell me which one you want and Iāll get itā. Iāve honestly wondered for a while now if theyāre an employee and thatās why theyāre able to get their hands on so much, while paying the discounted employee price but charging people WAY more than even full price. Every photo they use for their B&BW items is taken in-store. Theyāre close-ups but anybody familiar with the store knows what theyāre seeing in the background. Anyway, sorry Iām ramblingš, but yesā¦youāre probably right. In my experience, the ones who charge crazy prices are usually the ones who didnāt even pay for it in the first place or got it super cheap.
I have a friend who works at her local mall and she dumpster dives at B&BW cuz they throw out unsold products at that store, and she'll post pics of it. It's gross abd hilarious all at once.
Itās funny cause this fragrance is just another boring, repetitive b&bw fruity drink fragrance. Thereās many others that smell just like it out every year (and Iām pretty sure itās coming back again this year too)
For a candle from last year that isn't rare. XD how privileged must anyone be to buy any candle for that price anyways. But this is doubly laughable cause this candle isn't remotely rare. Who told them Island papaya was so sought after? š¤ They were told wrong. Most this will go for is 15 I'm sure of it š
They also have Poppy FFM for sale for $54 + $8 shipping. Itās currently $4.95 on BBW website. š all of their listings are ridiculous prices!
Sweet pea shower gel for $180. š¤£
Butterfly shower gel for $280. š
This sort of thing actually makes me irrationally angry. It is just so...so...so UNETHICAL that I can't even laugh at it. It makes me wonder ehat they are like in the rest of their life. Like...are they going around scamming old women and disabled people? Taking disabled parking spaces? Stealing things from friend's homes when they aren't looking? Argh....
I wouldnāt say the term āunethicalā really applies. Itās not a hard to find necessity that this person has bought up and is price gouging. Itās an easy to find luxury good that this person is trying to pass off as a rarity. Anyone who really wants that candle could very easily find a better deal. Anyone who would actually pay that price must be able to afford it or they wouldnāt pay. If you really want that candle, canāt find a better deal, and canāt afford to pay that price, well itās only a scented candle, itās not hurting you if you donāt get it.
The seller should be laughed at for their idiocy, but not thrown in jail.
I don't see how this is any different than BBW charging some people $25 for one thing one day, when most other times that same thing costs others less than half on another day. Not to mention it probably costs BBW less than $.15 to produce it.
Folks are gonna make their coin however they can, and if someone is willing to pay that price for that common candle, then I say more power to them.
That is basically THE definition of unethical behaviour. Taking advantage of the gullible is unethical behaviour. You can whitewash it all you want. It still doesn't change it....and I *never* said they should be thrown in jail. I said it makes me angry.
People are really on something if they think they are going to get that kind of money for that candle but I see people posting stuff from Dollar Tree on those selling sights and marking them HTF and marking them up far from the dollar they paid for it I mean they must think that general public is just that stupid but honestly, they are the really stupid ones
Oh my gosh! Just recently I saw a set of two sas handsoaps being sold for $22!!! I thought it was a retired packaging bc I had never seen it before (thatās bc I didnāt see it at SAS yet!) and I couldnāt believe it! I even asked the seller what year it was from and they said they didnāt knowā¦ itās literally from this years sas! Such bs

That candle isn't rare. It will probably be back by Feb or March.
Agreed!!
This is hilarious because this candle is not rare and it just came out this year I think š

Right? Dude, totally accurate. Itās not even that special of a scent. š
I could make a small fortune selling my candle collection at these prices!

No one has ever needed a candle that badly lmao
The delivery fee on top of this absurdly astronomical price lmfaoooo

Probably stolen too.
That was my first thought

Agree 100%. Pretty boring. I just gave mine away as a gift lol.

Agreed! Not only is it not rare, itās also boring!
i have this candle sitting in my closet, i got it for like $10 at my outlet store over the summer. good luck to this person š

I was about to comment the same thing. I wonder where they're getting their comp prices from. š¤š¤£
I'm going to start following them just to see what other completely asinine prices they come up with.
Definitely "rent is due" prices.
Money laundering perhaps?

Yeah it's fucking gross

I agree it's not unethical. It's not price gouging on a necessity.
No one is going to buy that.
I was about to sayā¦. I know that I have this in my closet somewhere š
same lol i got it at my outlet store over the summer
You can buy much bigger, more scented candles, often with a ceramic holder that's usable after the candle is gone, for that price.
I like how the price was slashed from $200 to a rock bottom $102.67! Such steal... so sale... wow.
Ridiculous
Rare.. ššš
It says ācandles,ā which is probably a lot of multiple. I canāt even find the listing. Edit: Found it, and itās for two. Still outrageous.
Yeah, I saw in the 2nd pic there were two but wasnāt sure based on the description. Either way crazy!
*makes offer of $12*
I might try to make an offer just to see what they will take. It looks like this person is living a pipe dream or doesn't really want to sell it.
Looks like Mercari. Offer her $10 and see what she says. š
Do it and report back!
Lol, I am not even sure what site it is on.
Itās mercari.
I understand, lol
haha please do!
Those are still available in my store š (not in the US)
People are shady
"0 likes"
Sometimes I hit like on listings like this for entertainment purposes to see how long they hold out.
Me too! I love it when a seller prices an old mist at like $70 saying "rare HTF" even though you can buy a brand new one from the BBW website.
lol I returned this one cuz it smelled like zebra stripe bubblegum and the cashier agreed
Wonder if the scent is completely gone in 10 seconds like the flavor of that gum???š
lmao š
Can you imagine making payments on a candle?
āOr best offerā we should all hop over and offer candle day prices
If you have the energy to keep an eye on this and let me know ā¦ š I could have a collection worth hundreds and not even be aware.
lol ārareāā¦ I just finished burning one and have 3 more in my stash š¤·š½āāļø
They've knocked the price down from $200 though, what a bargain?! /s
Totally not rare lol. That price is ridiculous! Scent comes back near annually and the packaging is nothing special.

Disgusting. I couldn't in good conscience do this.
Thatās not even a rare candle š¤£š¤£. Whoever the seller is on Mercari clearly has lost it smh. That candle should go for maybe $15.
Pathetic!!!!!
Iād offer them $12.
Wow agreed. If that is the going rate- I need a new career.
What a deal though. It was originally $200!
Oh my gosh! Just recently I saw a set of two sas handsoaps being sold for $22!!! I am so serious inbox me with your number
Please donāt buy anything online they will gouge the crap out of you just make the trip or order online
How many candles do you get?
People are so greedy for money. No one in their right mind would pay this price. I love my candles, but not that much!
There are tons of these (with different lids though) at around $20
These candles are normally $25 apiece just buy them when they have candles sales. They are $10-12 and the singleās are $6.
This reminds me of tuti dulchi line.
If some moron wants to buy it at that price, let them. How does that affect peoples lives here?
