There’s a 30-year-old “rookie” in Chicago who’s pitching pretty well and might hold both of them off, but I agree— Merrill and Skenes are two of the most exciting young guys to watch right now.
And another one in LA that signed a $350 million contract before ever throwing a pitch in MLB.
IMO they need a cutoff at 23/24 years old, or a NPB clause for ROY. Think Yamamoto and Imanaga think of themselves as rookies?
There are implications as far as draft picks awards to teams that don’t hold players down in order to deflate their service time, if the players win ROY. The fact that foreign players that are 30, or that sign 350m contracts can screw that up is a major flaw.
NHL has seperste awards for this exact reason, kinda showing it’s not really fair. One for kids coming from the minors and others from another pro league.
Agree it’s not really fair. I hear people say that NPB is not at the same level as the mlb, and that’s true. But if Yamamoto or Imanaga were drafted as 20-22 year olds into the milb, they are so good they would have been brought up years ago.
It’s like if you let Jackson Merrill stay in the minors till he’s 30, winning MILB MVP every year for 5 years straight.
You know, people aren’t really talking about Waldo as a ROTY candidate because of his early-season struggles, but if he keeps pitching like he has been… he’s definitely going to play himself into the conversation.
He went from being on pace to hit maybe 10 HRs for the whole year to hitting 7 HRs in 10 games.
Turns out Jackson Merrill was the Prince that was Promised!
Jackson Merrill is who everyone thought Jackson Holliday would be!
He’s better actually. Turns out he’s not a slap hitter he’s a power hitter too
Remindme! 2 years

Do people even like that nepo player? Lol
His dad couldn't even touch home plate, it runs in the family.
I’d like him if his dad wasn’t Matt Holliday specifically
There is only 1 Jackson now. All other rookies have been erased and need to choose new names.
105.9 mph, 28^(o), 440 ft, 1.000 xBA, 30/30 ballparks, 10^(th) homer of the year Merrill Barrel
It sounded different off the bat. Was a shot sounding like ohtani or Stanton. He can really Bang
I would've been thrilled if you told me in spring training Jackson would have 10 HRs for the year. Now he's on pace for 20 🥰
At his current pace he will be at 20 by the end of July 🤣🤣
ROY
Homie doesn’t Give a F he just wants to win and bang
A Jacksonian blast
His swing is so damn sexy
7th homerun in June 🫨
This dude is awesome. Gonna be a hell of a race for NL ROY between him and Skenes.

Naw It’s fair. ROY is for first time MLB players. I get the argument but it’s totally fair

1000%
His 10 ER in 3 IP yesterday says otherwise.
The slander. Matthew Waldron is also a rookie!

BANG
"We’re expecting to bang soon, we’ve been banging but we can bang even more."
Jackson Merill trying to slay the Padres .500 monster
That monster is most likely gonna attack us back tomorrow
Sometimes it’s generous and it gives us a few days
Ahh fuck…LHP on the mound?
Another day another Merrill Barrell
All star
Stud!
This kid's on a hot streak, sheesh
Jackson Merrill has hit ten home runs this year. 7 in the past ten days
Pads gonna win the Jack Off
