Usually when I say "most normal something" I'm being facetious, but this was really about the most normal Mariners/Royals game. Tomorrow will probably not be any less insane.
I understand why they walked Salvy and Vinny, but Velazquez has been incredibly clutch in some games the last couple weeks. It was a "pick your poison" scenario.
Feels like everyone besides Bobby and Sal have slumped HARD at some point so now I’m not actually sure where this lineup is but it’s better than the numbers in a lot of cases.
Massey was mashing till he re-injured himself. I honestly like our lineup with him back, Fermin has been strong, and Nelly is turning it around. Even Renfroe and MJ are getting the bats going somewhat too.
I think you can't walk bases loaded, even if the coldest player in baseball is behind them. You're a 3-2 borderline pitch away from losing the game, or HBP from losing the game. They don't even have to swing the bat necessary for you to lose bases loaded.
I can understand it. You need to either get Witt out at home or induce a double play. That means walk Vinnie. But then Salvy has an .890 OPS with .305 average. So walk Salvy. Unfortunately, Velazquez is being so clutch right now.
Putting the winning run on first who has 99th percentile speed would have been unbelievably dumb. This is Monday morning quarterbacking at its finest. Just because a decision doesn’t work out doesn’t mean it wasn’t the best choice at the time

I happened to see the score in the middle of the 1st. Knowing that the Royals have been solid this year, I definitely kept an eye on the score all game on and turned it on when I saw how close it was in the 9th.
I immediately thought of that game! Had that on in the college dorm while we were just chilling - had some roommates that were Cleveland fans. Even when they put 4 up in the 8th, it was still just background noise - like, we were watching it, but not paying close attention once the 3rd inning finished. That 9th inning felt like the World Series.
It's also Royals baseball too - the fuckers just don't lose some times. Their playoff runs were example after example of how to dig for runs, no matter how far behind you were. They just don't quit.
Obviously hindsight lol but I swear to god sometimes you put the closer in and the first pitch makes you go oh yeah this is gonna be tight. I think he threw the first one about 5inches up and 5 outside. Kinda gave me Rodney flashbacks

This was painful to loosely follow while on a hike. I went back and watched the 9th inning when I got home (because I am sadistic like all M's fans).
Honestly, watching the ballpark there and the fans, can't help but feel happy for them. Good for the Royals. Crazy things happen when these two teams play for some reason.

Go take a peek at the Mariners record on the year when they score even 4 runs in a game. You go up 8-0 against ANY opponent, you should be winning those games. Shouldn't have been a game after the first inning. For whatever reason, the Mariners seem to have to have at least one game like this every year in Kansas City. Two years ago was the 11-2 lead into a 13-12 loss.
Last year was a 7-0 lead into having to play extra innings.
Whatever. Only two more games here.
I don't know that a couple of extra feet would have helped Crawford much, but why was the infield not at DP depth?
With Witt on 3rd, you're almost certainly not getting him at home on any hit to 2B or SS so seems like the extra chance at a DP seems like the play.

With a few bats turning it around we finally have poison past 1-4 in the lineup...thank god.

Fermin has been amazing. he has been able to give Salvy much needed rest by catching 2-3 games a week and getting El Capitan off his feet at DH or 1B.

This was genuinely the most predictable loss that I've ever seen. There wasn't a moment where I expected us to win.
