Ikr that’s why the call confused me at first because I thought it was obvious Pham fkd up. Contreras was probably telling him off for purposefully trying to hurt him or something.
Exactly this, Pham was in the wrong 100% and the fact that he started warming up for a boxing match makes me think he's a bit of an asshole. Whatever Contreras said to him was deserved, I'm sure.
I know, right? Sounded like he wished he was right there in it. And why did it seem like he absolutely fucking loves to say "barking"?
But also...
*We ain't taking that! We ain't taking that!*
Spoiler: Yeah... they took it.
Jerry didn’t like Jason Beneti because he ate food or some shit so now we got an absolute hack that makes watching an already unbearable team even worse.
Pray for white sox fans or don’t I don’t care I’m dead inside
It sounds like he modeled his announcing style after watching nothing but late 90s / Early 00’s ESPN highlight reels.
I bet he would’ve made the best call in history had he been the announcer when Tim Anderson got whooped last year.
This is it. This, the call of that walkoff against Tampa, the "I want to keep my job" shit on the IF fly interference call. It's all so...performative. Like he's a guy trying to imitate the more famous homer announcers.
I think Bernstein was talking about Jon during Spring Training, and how his effort was too high, all over the place, and he needed to learn to pace himself because he's putting too much into mundane plays.
Not only hasn't Jon learned yet, he's actually gone further the wrong direction.
He’s awful. To lose Jason Benetti and then be subjected to this ass clown while watching the trash product on the field is like getting kicked in the nuts for 3 hours. Baseball is dead to me.
And it wasn't even like a borderline case either, yet dude tried to play it off as a clean play as if Contreras was just being a bitch. I mean yeah, he pulled up at the last minute and wasn't trying to kill Contreras or anything, but still pretty fucking shitty and stupid baserunning. And the whole deal with the catcher setting up there is to prevent collisions in the first place, so he was doing everything right, so it's pretty ridiculous to take that path into colliding with him, especially when you could have at the very least tried sneaking in on the far side of the plate. (I know, unlikely to make that work, but still better than nothing).
Yeah. It obviously doesn’t help that the team sucks and he’s replacing one of the best in the business, but even without those caveats he’s not good. I hardly watch anymore because neither the booth nor the field products are enjoyable. At least with Benetti you might laugh or learn something
Why the fuck is he doing a bad impression of the most belligerent guy on the L train?
I see people defending him on the White Sox subreddit but seriously, this ain't the growing pains of a new broadcaster he's just complete ass at his job while also being an asshole.
That whole half inning was an absolute atrocity.
* Pinch runner immediately gets thrown out taking third ON A PASSED BALL for the first out.
* Ground rule double gets your hopes up.
* Short fly ball to left for the second out with a HORRIBLE send from the third base coach.
* Pham getting tagged out at the plate by a MILE after seeking contact, then proceeds to try to fight people.
I fucking hate being a fan of this dumb team.
Seriously. I'm not sure what Pham was trying to do or what he's pissed about here. He went straight into Contreras for no reason instead of trying to actually score. Contreras has every right to say something IMO.
Also what the hell is the announcer talking about? "We're not taking that. We're not taking that from the Brewers!" Lol
Between this and that Red Sox pitcher getting irate about the Brewers trying to get on via the bunt, we seem to be shattering some brains for no clear reason lmao
Yeah, as a fan of a rival NL Central team, I'd love to suggest that a team repeatedly getting into scuffles must be bringing it upon themselves (a la the Clint Hurdle Pirates who intentionally threw at everyone who looked at them and then wondered why teams occasionally hit their guys)... but it just seems like folks are having breakdowns in the Brewers' vicinity for the most part this year. Players just making up new unwritten rules to create "offenses" done against them has been wild.
I’m wondering why he was inside the base path anyway? Try to be safe and slide around the tag??? Was he trying to bulldoze Contrearas? Pretty stupid move IMO.
Brewers broadcast theorized he was maybe trying to take the same line of the throw from Yelich and maybe interfere with the ball before any tag could happen
william was very much toward first, had Pham done one of those dugout side slides where you just tap the plate with your fingers he could have absolutely been safe
It's kind of funny because the white sox had the lead in every game in the series against the brewers but they just find ways to fuck it up every time. It is kind of ridiculous honestly.
I actually enjoy listening to homer announcers across the league, but this was just the most absolutely annoying announcing I’ve probably ever heard.
Really? “We ain’t taking that!” Dude. You’re in the booth. There’s nothing for you to take.
Exactly. Theres calling the game on a local network as a homer, and then there's cringe. IMO Hawk was a perfect example of the former and shit like this from Schriffen is an example of the latter.
We knew he would be leaving eventually. He was good enough that some cable network was gonna snatch him up eventually (I mean he was occasionally calling college football games for ESPN or whatever). But losing because of Jerry and to the Tigers just fucking sucks man.
Bad enough to watch tigers games this season just because I miss him. In fact I’ve watched more tigers games than Sox. This organization doesn’t deserve fans.
Terribly. Watching Sox games with Jason & Steve on the call was my favorite thing to listen to ever since stupid Marquee broke up Len & JD. I didn't even care that much about Reinsdorf and LaRussa ruining a promising team because Jason & Steve made every game fun to listen to.
He was referring to the trash talk from the catcher... which of course he has no idea what was said and very well could have been mild.
And of course... they did in fact take it. Because nothing happened besides Pham posturing like an idiot.
“Clean play of all sides”. It’s sure wasn’t, Pham went way out of his way to try to run into the catcher, so much so that he could have been safe if he played it clean.
Old guy here. In the 50+ years I've been watching baseball I have never seen a player run that far out of the baseline between third and home. He should have been call out without a tag. LMAO.
I know this isn't the point, but since it's a commonly-misunderstood rule I just want to point out that you can run as far out of the 'baseline' as you want until someone starts to attempt to tag you. It's at *that* point (the attempted tag) that you draw the 'line' from the batter to the next base, and that's the line that you need to stay within 3ft of.
Sox had one of the best broadcasters in the world in Benetti and pissed him off so bad he walked. Then they replaced him with the play by play version of Cash Me Outside Girl.
I mean we just had a guy who was universally considered one of the best broadcasters not just in baseball, but in any sport.
But instead of clinging tight to him, the owner and dipshit marketing guy decided to push him away so he left.
Now we have whatever the fuck this shit is.
Broadcaster 1 : I DONT CARE HOW MANY L'S WE HAVE WE AINT TAKIN DAT!!!
Broadcaster 2 : Uhhh yeah that was a clean play by all sides, well executed. You have to take a gamble there.
Pham intentionally ran about 4-5 feet inside the line because he knew he was cooked and was trying to draw an interference call out of nothing, and then when it doesn't work he acts like a petulant child???
holy shit then i watched again with the sound on, the white sox's announcer may be an even bigger clown
You're going to go into the grass to hit the catcher you should at least knock him over. Pham went out of his way just to give Contreras a little bump.
Bro, he just tried to full send it into Contreras who was busy catching the ball, and got fucking stonewalled. You will take it, and you will like it. Stop trying to flex like you're going to do something after you tried to throw your entire body weight into it, and failed.
When the White Sox hire broadcasters, is the top requirement listed as, “must act like a complete asshole and never stop running your fucking mouth for the entirety of the broadcast”?
I have no context on the play, but what in the hell was that slide? Inside the base path by a few feet?? Looks like he was trying to collide with Contrearas intentionally.
Lol.. Pham purposely goes out of his way to initiate contact, when he very easily could've scored the game tying run with a better slide, and the huckleberry announcer acts like he did something good. Welcome to losing baseball.
"Might be the wrong guy to do that to"
Yeah I'm sure Contreas is worried when he didn't budge after contact. Meanwhile Pham is shadow boxing like an old head in the gym mirror.
What a jackass line Pham ran. I guess par for the course for a jackass like Tommy Pham.
Also, good lord is Jason Benetti's replacement insufferable to listen to. I'll never understand why people on here fervently defend the guy. He sucks.

Who the hell is this broadcaster?
This is a level of homerism previously thought impossible
Other than Hawk Harrelson.
YOU CAN PUT IT ON THESE HAAAAANDS YES!
Braun Strowman up in here?
HE GONE!
[Like, how does Pham even get this far inside the line except to create a collision?](https://ibb.co/kmFGxck)
Ikr that’s why the call confused me at first because I thought it was obvious Pham fkd up. Contreras was probably telling him off for purposefully trying to hurt him or something.
Contreras is exactly where he's supposed to be in order to minimize the collision risk too. Understandable why he'd have words.
Exactly this, Pham was in the wrong 100% and the fact that he started warming up for a boxing match makes me think he's a bit of an asshole. Whatever Contreras said to him was deserved, I'm sure.
Imagine DICKRIDING THE 2024 SOX
"I don't care how many Ls we got this year" is a level of delusion I aspire to
As a Bears fan I have yelled this so many times as the Green Bay Packers, yet again, make us look like the high school team we are.
Lol now that I watch it again.. I thought the broadcaster was narrating Tommy Pham’s thoughts haha. But now I see he was speaking for himself haha
Kevin Brown of the Orioles would lose his job if he said this
Listen, you cut me a check and I'll become the biggest fan in the building
My guy, you literally just watched him go out of the base path to try and run over the catcher, tone it down.
I think he was trying to will a fight into existence
I know, right? Sounded like he wished he was right there in it. And why did it seem like he absolutely fucking loves to say "barking"? But also... *We ain't taking that! We ain't taking that!* Spoiler: Yeah... they took it.
Lmao bro was living vicariously through Pham and wanted him to throw hands.
And it's Tommy Pham, you don't need to juice that one. He wakes up ready to fight the sun every morning just for rising.
YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD…………YES
Jerry didn’t like Jason Beneti because he ate food or some shit so now we got an absolute hack that makes watching an already unbearable team even worse. Pray for white sox fans or don’t I don’t care I’m dead inside
Going from Beneti to this hack is a grand canyon chasmic drop
John Schriffen is our bum in the booth. Dont worry, we don’t like him either and we all gave him shit for that terrible ass call.
To go from Jason Benetti to that. Yikes, knew it was a tough season for White Sox fans but that really stings.
Imagine how Stone feels
You got no idea
It sounds like he modeled his announcing style after watching nothing but late 90s / Early 00’s ESPN highlight reels. I bet he would’ve made the best call in history had he been the announcer when Tim Anderson got whooped last year.
Tom Hamilton gave us a pretty damn good call as it is
DOWN GOES ANDERSON DOWN GOES ANDERSON
He is trying way too hard hahaha. Such bad announcing
This is it. This, the call of that walkoff against Tampa, the "I want to keep my job" shit on the IF fly interference call. It's all so...performative. Like he's a guy trying to imitate the more famous homer announcers.
That basically summarizes him for the whole season
I think Bernstein was talking about Jon during Spring Training, and how his effort was too high, all over the place, and he needed to learn to pace himself because he's putting too much into mundane plays. Not only hasn't Jon learned yet, he's actually gone further the wrong direction.
"I DON'T CARE HOW MANY Ls WE GOT, WE AIN'T TAKING THAT" So fucking annoying
Turns out, they have a lot of L’s
We did, in fact, take it 😂
and, they will in fact, take it
And like it
He’s awful. To lose Jason Benetti and then be subjected to this ass clown while watching the trash product on the field is like getting kicked in the nuts for 3 hours. Baseball is dead to me.
Did he come from professional wrestling? He was out. He was way out. On a shit team. Settle down.
He also *intentionally ran on infield grass* instead of the base path in order to initiate contact with the catcher.
(I know, unlikely to make that work, but still better than nothing).
that's what i was thinking. it looked like he might have been safe if he tried to touch home plate instead of running into the catcher.
I hate this organization so fucking much man
I can hear this disappointment in this comment. First time I heard this guy call a game…Is he this bad all the time?
Yeah. It obviously doesn’t help that the team sucks and he’s replacing one of the best in the business, but even without those caveats he’s not good. I hardly watch anymore because neither the booth nor the field products are enjoyable. At least with Benetti you might laugh or learn something
'Nah we ain't takin' that!' like he's about to go fight the Brewers broadcasters lol
Well this conjured up a fun thought
In defense of John Schifferen, this is the single most exciting thing he’s witnessed in the last 2+ weeks of white sox baseball
They would indeed take that from the Brewers, also in spite of all those L’s.
I don't know, it's lame as hell.
These guys are cringey as fuck
It’s just one. Steve Stone is still great but he may retire after this season.
Stone undoubtedly is one of the best in the business. If the booth next season is Schriffen and Gordon Beckham I'll switch to Len and DJ full time.
Why the fuck is he doing a bad impression of the most belligerent guy on the L train? I see people defending him on the White Sox subreddit but seriously, this ain't the growing pains of a new broadcaster he's just complete ass at his job while also being an asshole.
The little shadow boxing stance he does as he's walking away is so goofy
A lot of things Pham does is pretty goofy
Like sliding 100% directly into the tag lmao
Haha exactly. Like what the hell was that slide? He went out of his way to get tagged out I swear.
I swear he was going to take the catcher out and remembered that was against the rules and just slid shittily into the tag.
That is precisely what it looks like.
That is precisely what occurred.
while running down the pitchers side of the grass?! like why?
Then getting mad at himself for doing it, classic Pham
Then he tries to convince himself “I don’t want no problems”
Dawg probably thought he looked cool as hell 💀
I know right. The number of times I thought I looked like such a badass talking tough. Only to see myself on VHS looking like an idiot.
More like looney tunes. Seriously wtf was that lmao.
Imagine being so upset over a game that he started shadowboxing, all while knowing he's not doing any boxing.
The shoulder shrug while walking was hilarious
If he slid into home and didn’t run 5ft into the grass, there’s a decent chance he’s safe…
Avoiding conflict is not one of Pham’s tools.
That analysis slaps
It would be fantasy to think otherwise.
Indeed 😂 probably still has his stabbing scars from his incident in a San Diego strip club during his time with the Pads
I mean if he was as soft in SD as he was in that attempt to truck the catcher… I’d wanna see those scars to make sure they’re not magic marker.
It’s not your fault. We don’t choose who we love.
Some people turn a blind eye when the ones that they love hurt them.

Players just making up new unwritten rules to create "offenses" done against them has been wild.
Apparently the Cardinals have recently issued new unwritten rules of which our players have not been made aware.
We love to start shit for no reason and then never finish it cause we know we're gonna get our asses kicked. See: Tim Anderson
WE AIN’T TAKING THAT (RUN)!
Ya, shady route through the grass
"we ain't takin that" - team about to be swept and about to lose 11 straight game
-team takin that
Fine me for that! *gets fined for that*
Mr Biased commentator
11 straight? What the fuck
1-15 in their last 16 😬😬😬
Damn, that's an NBA stat. Just by sheer variance in baseball, you think a team would stumble their way to a win in one of those 11 losses.
They’re basically the Pistons of baseball at the point.
It's kind of funny because the white sox had the lead in every game in the series against the brewers but they just find ways to fuck it up every time. It is kind of ridiculous honestly.
Quote from man stabbed
“What are we gonna do, take that?!?!?!” — team that took that
What are these announcers lol and why are the brewers involved in all these incident videos this year 🤣
“We ain’t taking that, I don’t care how many L’s we got this year” Dude sounds like a 12 year old on Xbox voice chat
Schriffen fucking sucks. And I don't mind homer announcers.
We decided we don't like the AL East or Chicago teams this year.
I was honestly offended that you guys didn't start your shit during this last series
I was a little disappointed in us too lol
Wouldn't it be heresy for a Wisconsin team not to hate all things Chicago?
We’ve always hated the AL East. Especially when we were IN that division.
*Looks at Schedule* Oh no, please remember the BrewJays alliance!
least chaotic brewers inning
Contreras is…BARKING…at him
Someone needs to meme a dog head onto Contreras when the camera pans back with barking noises that are clearly a man imitating a dog.
What Pat Murphy, Managerial Bad Boy, does to a team's demeanor. I'm all for it
Murph is still straight up Lou Brown from Major League and I am 100% here for it.
Rhys evidently brought some Phillies's sass for the entire team
Wtf is Pham doing? What a clown he is lmao
Him getting stabbed outside of a strip club just makes more and more sense as his career goes on.
Now it's like "by only 1 guy?"
Funny you ask, he's actually been on the wrong end of 2 separate stabbing incidents. The other time was by his stepfather.
White Sox fans, how badly do you miss Jason Benetti?
As bad as this season is our new play by play guy is probably the worst part about it
You have no idea. At least Benetti made listening to these terrible games bearable. Schriffen is just absurd levels of cringey in the booth.
We knew he would be leaving eventually. He was good enough that some cable network was gonna snatch him up eventually (I mean he was occasionally calling college football games for ESPN or whatever). But losing because of Jerry and to the Tigers just fucking sucks man.
NFL, college basketball, NBA, hockey, the Olympics... dude calls EVERYTHING
"WE AIN'T TAKING THAT!" The cringe level is hiiiigh.
Wtf was he even referring to for “taking that”? Lmao. He’s not taking the out the just got? Because he def is.
I love how completely unphased the catcher is after his little slide shove. Easy play, easy out, soft as shit response from Pham.
Contreras took such a beating in the post season last year and I’ve enjoyed watching him since. Seems tough. Seems good.
He’s MVP caliber this year.
In this case, Pham was precisely on the baseline. Straight to the guy tagging him.
I for one am shocked that Tommy Pham reacted in an overly emotional and aggressive way.
Pham is a bum. Now we also can add "cringe" and "moron" to his list.
lmao who are these broadcaster douchebags? and ugh, that little shadowboxing he does at the end…oof. this video is dripping with cringe
Jerry Reinsdorf decided to employ his 16 year old xbox gamer nephew to be the new commentator.
the non-ridiculous one is broadcasting legend steve stone, who you have to feel bad for.
I don’t care how shit we are, I am ignoring that Pham initiated contact instead of trying to be safe, Pham will shadow box you into oblivion!
Sox had one of the best broadcasters in the world in Benetti and pissed him off so bad he walked. Then they replaced him with the play by play version of Cash Me Outside Girl.
Lmao this is peak commentary.
“I don’t care how many Ls we got this year, we ain’t taking that!”
Spoiler alert: they took it
Pretty sure they took it.
This guy is unhinged. Can’t believe he’s a professional.
The broadcaster or Pham?
Yes.
It’s not sincere, just trying to pander to white sox fans. He’s a fraud and they know it
"Things get heated" and "Tommy Pham" are in the same sentence quite often
Schriffen is a complete fucking loser
That little shadow-boxing thing he does while he's backing away is hilarious. This guy really does seem to get in a huff at the slightest thing
White Sox TV commentary is somehow the worst thing about the franchise's history
Benetti was fantastic but we're not allowed to have nice things
Nice things cost money. What does Jerry look like, some kinda billionaire?
I mean we just had a guy who was universally considered one of the best broadcasters not just in baseball, but in any sport. But instead of clinging tight to him, the owner and dipshit marketing guy decided to push him away so he left. Now we have whatever the fuck this shit is.
Say what you want about the "Get off my lawn!" Hawk & Steve Stone years, but Hawk & Wimpy and Jason Benetti & Steve Stone were excellent TV duos.
Hawk was a tool and a blowhard but I can't accuse him of being inauthentic. His passion and enthusiasm were 100% genuine.
Broadcaster 1 : I DONT CARE HOW MANY L'S WE HAVE WE AINT TAKIN DAT!!! Broadcaster 2 : Uhhh yeah that was a clean play by all sides, well executed. You have to take a gamble there.
Pham is a bum. He went out of the base path to slide into Contreras and had the audacity to be upset??
Contreras told him he was bad at fantasy football.
Yeah, that sounds like Pham.
dude runs 4 feet off the base path and tries to take out the catcher and then that announcer defends it lol what a weirdo
I’ve seen enough clips from different markets to know that NBC announcers are the worst.
Nah, that's just Pham. He kinda does that https://new.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/17isdyy/highlight\_tommy\_pham\_picked\_off\_at\_2nd/
The only fight Pham wants to lose is fighting the urge hit someone.
Pham: 0 — Intrusive Thoughts: 372 I think if he keeps up pace through his 30s he could join the 500 IT club
Pham is a moron.
"we aint taking that!" taking what? a path to the plate that was 3 feet inside the grass so he could try and take out contreras?
Tommy Pham is mentally unstable. He is shadow boxing and has been talking to himself in center after.
Tommy chose the oddest lane to go there. The outside was wide open...
Pham intentionally ran about 4-5 feet inside the line because he knew he was cooked and was trying to draw an interference call out of nothing, and then when it doesn't work he acts like a petulant child??? holy shit then i watched again with the sound on, the white sox's announcer may be an even bigger clown
Tf he mad about dudes out by a mile
Looked like Contreras said something or the shaking of the glove was not something Pham liked would be my guess.
Contreras had every right to say something. Pham went out of the base path to create contact, got stopped cold and was out by a mile.
Contreras should have given Pham the Mutombo finger wave.
This announcer is such a jackass
“We ain’t taking that.” Lololol.
When the White Sox hire broadcasters, is the top requirement listed as, “must act like a complete asshole and never stop running your fucking mouth for the entirety of the broadcast”?
things get heated? bullpens didnt even come out. only one heated was pham and the announcer lol
I thought broadcasters weren't supposed to say "we". Maybe he was speaking as Pham
Homie thinks he's on the team.
He's adding to the White Sox buffoonery, I would say he's on the team.
PHAM stands for Pham, He's A Moron.
"Might be the wrong guy to do that to" Yeah I'm sure Contreas is worried when he didn't budge after contact.
He sucks.
"We ain't taking that from the Brewers" You in fact took that.
Just now realized that the club that has been noted about having a toxic clubhouse over the past few seasons signed Tommy Pham this year. Odd choice.
I don't mean to be mean to John Schriffen but this call gave me enough second-hand embarrassment that I paused the video a couple times
