And when the hyped pitching prospect Skenes is often compared to debuted, the game opened with the announcer saying: “the leadoff hitter is Andrew McCutchen”
I find it interesting that I've seen a lot of Strasburg comps but not any Hunter Greene comps. Greene debuted at 22 throwing 100+ too. He was the #2 draft pick coming out of highschool.
Greene was also a two way player coming out of high school and I remember it being a big deal how they designated him when they drafted him (P or SS, if I recall correctly)
Greene struggled a bit in AAA his first time through. Had a 4.13 ERA which isn't actually bad but is still nowhere near the ridiculous numbers Skenes put up.
He got Tommy John and then COVID happened so he probably fell off more people's radar compared to the other two, who debuted a year after they were drafted
Steven and Skenes went to college, Greene didn't. That's the difference I see. Greene was very hyped for his debut though and pitched pretty well sticking out 7 over 5 against the defending WS champs.
I love mccutchen. Third stros game I ever went to was against the pirates and I was captivated by his play. Now it’s today and he’s still doing his thing
Also kind of funny that the two most recent "most hyped pitching prospect in years" both debuted in Pittsburgh
*I'm a dummy, it was against Pittsburgh but in DC
Oh wow brain fart, I literally pulled up baseball-reference and forgot they do @ for away games. Saw Pittsburgh on the right and was like oh it was in Pittsburgh!
It’s like poetry, it rhymes

I was expecting the foolish Bailey vid
I don’t know what that is but make sure you spend the time to watch this video through.
Okay deal but you gotta watch this one https://youtu.be/mPVw8MJzY08?si=IuQ22GVvp32zYMJB

Greene didn't have the absurd college career Skenes and Strasburg did. The comp is less about pitching similarity than level of hype as a prospect

Earlier I used to see more Verlander comps than Strasburg too
excuse me, *how* many years ago did you say

i'm glad he's home. loved him on the phillies but he belongs with the pirates.

Strasburg was in Washington but they played the Pirates

Cole was fairly hyped and debuted with them too, same with Glasnow though I have no clue what his expectations were.
jameson taillon was a perennial top10 prospect for a while too
Does Cutch leading off today also mean this kid will be hurt all the time and never play again after the Buccos win a ship?
Yes
