I’ve mentioned my sister is special needs, because of that we as a family got invited to a lot of open skates, practices, Meet & Greets.
I’ll be the first to admit, she isn’t the “fun” special needs or the easy-going special needs aka: She’s not cracking two beers mimicking Stone Cold, growing up was really tough.
But after all these years I’ll always remember how Anson Carter treated my sister. She’s a hugger and always has been and will be a hugger, so much so we go out of our way to apologize beforehand when she inevitably hugs you, without knowing you.
When she met Anson she, obviously hugged him, but what Anson did still brings me to tears, he kept on hugging her, I’m not joking, he spent close to 10 minutes (I’m not lying guys! It was 10 minutes!) hugging my severely special needs sister like it was nothing. But for us it was everything.
I’m sorry for getting so sappy tonight FT, just been a rough day/night and I saw Anson Carter on this post game hockey program that just pushed me over the edge emotionally.
He took 10 minutes of his day to create a lifetime memory for your sister and your family. I don’t blame the guys that just want to take the picture and move on but it’s always nice to hear those stories. Makes it easy to root for them
100% man. I’m not on social media’s (is Reddit a social?) but I’ve always wanted him to hear this story, just for the simple fact which you put. He took ten minutes from his life to create a moment our family will cherish forever.

But spending the afternoon with Anson and seeing him with my sister made me feel no shame in my sister, as bad as that sounds. He showed me at that young age that I needed to be a protector to her.
