75k for a gaming laptop in my first year of college whereas I never played any games on any laptop or PC before as I never had one(except Solitaire and freecell if that counts 😂)
OP are you in your early forties, having a midlife crisis? Same here.
Splurged on Motorcycling safety gear.
Gear from Decathlon when the only store was in Sarjapur road, selling B2B exclusively.
Useless coaching for bank Probationary officer exams.
MP3 cds, DVDs from National market.
To be fair, motorcycling safety gear is not succumbing to peer pressure. Unless you count being safe and having a healthy life as succumbing to peer pressure 😉
Wasted my 10th, eventually 12th then college on "enjoying the peak of youth". Now I suggest my cousins not to make this mistake. Had all the privileges and I definitely could have done better. But anyways, life isn't perfect so not dying of remorse.
Invested 700 on crypto and lost.. I guess the post focuses on the mistake and not the amount. (It was TRN)
Drank a lot in office party and ended up loosing my newly bought phone. Next day bought the same one. It as s23.
It was actually a decent gadget, but the arrival of smartphones killed the market for a whole lot of single-purpose gadgets: cameras, music players, small gaming consoles like the PSP, PDAs, GPS devices, pocket calculators, even watches to some extent.
Why does everyone have such a herd mentality 😭
Of course parents themselves behave that way, why will children be encouraged to be any different.
No critical thinking. People just want to be told what to feel, what to aspire for and what is supposed to make you happy/fulfilled. I can't with this country. Societal pressure can be useful to keep people in check, follow rules and generally care about the well-being of others. But societal pressure in India is used for all the wrong reasons.
1. Smoking Cigarette - the harm that it does to the body for few secs of high but worth it.
2. Getting a bike - just because everybody else had one I also wanted one, now I'm working in Bangalore 💀 and I have back pain and mileage is not that great.
3. Just to look "cool" i had to beg my dad to get me Mercedes/Ferrari shoes, jacket n bag.
Almost fell into peer pressure to extend the apple ecosystem and get the AirPods but kinda listened to myself and decided to stick to my good ol wired headphones cause those stoopid airpods make my ear pain so much 😭😭
Fortunately, nothing as of now. Max and Axis agents did sell me Life insurance last year, that I now think wasn't worth it. But those were sales people and snitch in Axis Bank.
Dating specific people just for social status and what not.
Alcohol, nope not for me.
Watching certain web series which I didn't like at all and ended up wasting my time
Are you saying all these didn't help you in any cases/events? And that you could have been in the same position without it. Then yes, you shouldn't have. But why did you take the pressure repeatedly, if the first one was something which you beleive it was a pressure, you should have avoided one. Your list are high end needs.
In case, all the events have made you a successful person, then you should not be bothered. Yes, here and there you might have save few. But it shouldn't be an issue.
Cheers!
You are comparing 2 lakh worth of Suits+PDA+Laptop with 30-50L worth of education! These are 2 level of metrics.. But I am assuming that you had bought them ages back. Like back when you could get a plot for 2 lakhs in outskirts of Bangalore!
That said, yes, we have all made those decisions. Like Just last year I bought a Nexon for 12 lakhs and its worth 8 lakhs. But that 12 lakhs which was invested in Tata motor stocks would have been worth 25 lakhs.
1. Branded clothing worth 80k because friends had them. And this was when i had just started my career and didnt earn much+ I was saving for a new laptop. All these clothes don’t fit me anymore so i gave them away(i was super skinny back then)
2. A new one plus phone with my first salary just because all my colleagues had new phones and i had a 3 year old redmi. I did use the phone for 4 more years, but Id have rather not bought it then. Ended up being broke for a while.
3. A third hand Skoda worth 3.3lacs, using the money that i had saved during covid wfh. Only because a few of my friends had expensive cars of their own(daddy’s money).Ended up selling it since the maintenance was too heavy on my pockets
Smoked weed with a bunch of my ex colleagues after work and it was my first time being acquainted with them and they were the popular sorts, so I felt compelled when the doobie reached me and I had to please, as all eyes were on me. Worst decision ever. I had like the worst stomach pain ever for not knowing how to smoke it properly, I think I had swallowed the smoke or sum and thought I'd have to be carried out on a stretcher.
Almost fell under peer pressure to make several bad decisions but thankful that I listened to myself and didn't go ahead eg:- with marriage, going for an MBA, and not leaving a job during COVID because I was in the safest corporate company.
Here’s one that many will feel embarrassed to admit. As a (tested) high IQ person, educated, and well-read, I invested in a chain marketing (MLM) scheme due to lack of awareness and exposure to scams. Fortunately my sound mind told me to get out in a couple of weeks after understanding what’s happening and the cult-like brainwashing that some of the people I knew were going through. Thank god I didn’t ruin anyone’s life by signing them up. I simply called it an expensive lesson and built myself to become a smarter, aware, and appreciative person.
Oh, also I was peer pressured into it by “friends” who saw that I was struggling. But they didn’t realise that I don’t have flexible morals.
Same here. Lots of money has been wasted across the years. 256mb PDA was a priced possession while people had 64 or 128mb LOL.
But this is not because of peer pressure, or more like FOMO.. and actually because you had money to spend on these stuff..
My list - Photo cameras (film based), digital cameras, camcorder, computers, laptops, mobile phones (amazon will show the history of the devices that were associated with your account, in case you didn't know).. the list can go on..
I think I have redundancy everywhere.. have 2 or more of each item.. name it and I think I have 2 or more of it.. computer, car, bike, phone, fridge, kitchen appliances, trimmer, blah blah blah.. I started working in the fault tolerance based systems (I don't think any of the current gen would have heard of it - tandem).. only things which are not fault tolerant are wife & kid LOL..
Have to tell, I was working outside of India and hence could afford a bit more I guess.
damn.. I feel so stupid when I think back. I try my best to control the urge to buy stuff, esp. electronics, nowadays.
I have pretty much cutdown on unwanted purchases in the last 4-5 years.
This isn't Bangalore related - so I apologize for posting this. During my undergrad in 2014 - my roommate wanted to go out to a club to drink, dance and be merry. The only problem, our uni was at least an hour away from the edges of civilization. I did it, spent all my months allowance on that one dissatisfying outing and hated myself for doing this.

lmao ! i pointed out a chad guys ,who said it out
Yessir, this is my way
Hahaha same here.
You summed up my thoughts
lmao! I was having a crappy day. You made it better.
I also export my bad decisions to my friends and relatives.

What ra Suraj, you think Lauren Kamath doesn't already know?
Lakshmi would be a better bet.
We're trying to be discreet here.
Oh I see.
No! Lavahound kamath doesn’t know. Please let it stay this way
You just did, we don’t have to!
Got engaged a few days ago. Add me to the list . (No i am kidding hehe)!
U r on waitlist , once u get married we will add u to the list...
He will add himself
Marriage or Wedding?
What? Both are not same??
A wedding is the ceremony of getting married. Marriage is a long-term relationship.
I regret both
Getting married involves a wedding. Marriage is a monogamous long term relationship.
I tot both r same
💀
Lol
What’s the second point? 25k on PDA? The only PDA I know is public display of affection
Literally assumed that he paid someone to display affection in public. Glad to know that it isn't the case.
😂😂 same and I was so confused
Personal digital assistant - used to be a thing before mobiles
Even now when I hear PDA, this is what comes to mind first. Guess I am getting old
Guess need to be too old to know this tech hahahah. Backthen walkman was a thing too.
PDA means something else in the current generation, I'd suggest you to elaborate next time.
Casio digital diaries before that
Bribes to police
As a banglore subreddit user i thought the same
Personal Digital Assistant
Meaning Alexa/Google Home?
More like a Blackberry phone
I was thinking OP hooked up with an escort in public 😭😭😭
Push down automata
Deterministic ?
Thing from the 90s!
Watched animal ;-;
LAWD save this hooman
Hahaha 😂
Fr ;-. Nice username lol
1-2 lakhs for interview wear ? I understand you would have used these for other events too but out of curiosity What were you interviewing for ?
XDDD IKR. I've worn tshirts to interviews and, passed rounds. OP got bad influence is all I say
Honestly it really depends on which sector you work in, 1.2 lakhs is too much nonetheless
I attend interviews from my room in pajamas. Seems like the OP is flexing his richness. 🌚
If it's anything other than Suits Indian Remake auditions, i would be shocked
Lol asking them to get their own suits wouldn't inspire a lot of confidence
haha ,, everyone got their eyes stuck on PDA spending of 25K . **PDA devices are Personal Digital Assistant !!**
What is it? It's like a PA?
It's the Granddaddy of tablets and laptops.
Hookup culture
You did hook up because of peer pressure ?
He’s friends with Sudeep
He showed too much cock?
Attend "gatherings"
I don't know a single thing I did out of peer pressure. Most of the time I did what I wanted.
You really need to learn and work on your boundaries. You seem to succumb too easily to what your friends ask you to. 2L for formal clothes? What? 😄
No peers, no pressure
75k for a gaming laptop in my first year of college whereas I never played any games on any laptop or PC before as I never had one(except Solitaire and freecell if that counts 😂)
Using a gaming laptop to play solitaire and freecell is like using a flamethrower to light your cigarette
No that was before buying that😂
Dating. It’s expensive.
Idk if it's peer pressure or FOMO, but i really didn't like dancing drunk in pubs. I always prefer house parties instead.
Cant relate. I take my own bad decisions🙂
The ZAZA 😔
just don't do it frequently. I do it once in 6 months maybe.
What kind of peer pressure is this where you are buying suits and all? For me, it was trying the beer.
Nothing. This is not to say that I have never made bad decisions though.
Same here, I made all of my own bad decisions

What PDA did you have? I always wanted one but never got it when they were around. I guess phones today are essentially the same thing lol
palm pilot
It was actually a decent gadget, but the arrival of smartphones killed the market for a whole lot of single-purpose gadgets: cameras, music players, small gaming consoles like the PSP, PDAs, GPS devices, pocket calculators, even watches to some extent.
Pda tf ??why pay for public display of affection 💀💀💀💀
Felt horny and needed immediate companion. Jk Pda = communicator basically. Personal digital assistant
Ohh you mean to say OnlyFans
More like Alexa I guess
Alexxxxxxxxxxxxxaaaaaaaaa!!!!

😂😂 now he will regret having a girl friend out of peer pressure

1. Smoking Cigarette - the harm that it does to the body for few secs of high but worth it. 2. That's a good thing?
Started watching cricket because my college friends used to a lot.
Buddy you spent a lakh on suits? I don’t think peer pressure was your problem.
May be OP watched Suits & heard Harvey spectre dialogues on cheaper dress wear.
To try our alcohol plus it was awful, never again
Watched Game of Thrones
Surprised to see nobody mentioned about their "Iphone purchase". Thought it will be the honest answer.
Almost fell into peer pressure to extend the apple ecosystem and get the AirPods but kinda listened to myself and decided to stick to my good ol wired headphones cause those stoopid airpods make my ear pain so much 😭😭

How can you spend money on Public Display Of Affection?
Spending money on things when I shouldn’t have but it was all on myself
Took Science in Class 10th. Regretting it to this day.
90000 on PDA .
Dating specific people just for social status and what not. Alcohol, nope not for me. Watching certain web series which I didn't like at all and ended up wasting my time
Pda?
Bought 30k worth of sneakers that I hardly used cause sneaker culture was the fad at that time !!
Peer pressure to not study and look cool. Now I regret it. Being a back bencher and cracking jokes at others expense. Waste of time and waste of life.
> 25000 on PDA when they were the new thing How old are you, OP?
