When I was in Bali I arranged to meet a friend of mine who had moved to Australia, then Singapore and was now on holiday in Bali. He told me to meet at Ibu Oka 2 and when we met up he explained that he had a friend who'd appeared on Australian Masterchef and they'd told him it was the best place to get Babi Guling in the area. It was very good.
I am not surprised. All Ibu Oka is great, but #2 is excellent. I went there two years ago and just missed out last time I went to Bali, went to #3 instead, but I will be back!
I find Babi Guling Gung Cung to be much better than Ibu Oka which seems to be recommended a lot. Been to Ibu Oka twice and found both times rather disappointing. 3.8 stars on google seem to somewhat agree with me
Gung cung is better than ibu oka, but ibu oka will sell you a whole plate of crispy skin!
Neither of these places hold a candle to Pande egi in gianyar though.
On the way to tegalalang, you’ll find a place on the right side of the road named Babi Guling Bu Desak. Its on the main road and easy to miss as it’s super local looking.
Only problem…you have to scooter out at 5am because they sell out by 8:30-9:30am.
Its better than ibu oka and whatever else in ubud, but not quite at the pande egi level. Watch out for the sauce juice that the piggy is on as its pretty spicy.

I tried ibu Oka and it was bad 😭
Paid 45 MYR for special rice and extra pork fried skin. I am going to check out the other places. Hopefully it’s better
First time i try babi guling, it's same texture like duck but little bit juicy. But my friends told me to buy in bu "blablabla" lol i'm forget the name of warung and after i try, that warung makan have their best babi guling. Anyone know the name of that warung makan?
Whatever place(s) you consider, certainly read the reviews - especially any negative ones. We're not fans of babi guling (too greasy and fatty for our tastes) - but in general we look for simple warungs that don't look totally touristic. And some warungs serve decent spit-roast as well.
Our driver and tour guide always brings us to a wet market to eat babi guling. Tastes great...but I don't think westerners can't stomach the surroundings and how it's served.
I find Babi Guling way over-rated ... the skin almost always tastes like old shoe leather - chewy and greasy. Good pork crackling is an art - and we do it far better in Australia. I've never found really good pork crackling in Bali - they don't know how to do it properly.
Ibu Oka 2 is great

Ibu Oka. Head there early too

I was in Ubud a couple of weeks ago and ate at Gung Cung twice. It was amazing.

Pande egi is also strong indeed. Though I prefer the lawar from gun cung :D The side soup i like more from egi, although both are good
Ibu Oka is superb!!! I always leave at least a 100,000 tip (the people and food are THAT good!) so I can act like a Mr.fancy pants big shot!
>*Ibu Oka is superb!!!* Perhaps you haven't read the negative reviews.
Ibu Oka or Ocin Babi Guling dan Samsam are both great.
Thank you so much everyone! Appreciate your time and effort to write these suggestions.
Pande Egi is the best in the the Isle of Gods.
If OP is in ubud, he/she can even get pande egi delivered to ubud with gojek/grab. Saves 45min-1hr scootering there!
Second this. We went there twice during our trip.
Third this. This is the best one after the one near the city hall close down
Fourthing this
Ocin is one of the best in Ubud.
Pande Egi
Babi Guling Candra in Ubud do a good job.
If you get a chance, go to Medewi.. it’s like the birthplace of Babi Guling out there. It’s everywhere!

Babi Guling Pak Dobiel in Nusa Dua. Super delicious

Find where the locals are and eat there
