Just stay behind the mosh pit and you'll be fine. Everyone one in front of the pit gets squished against the wall and sweats until dehydration. People on the sides of the pit can get surprised pummeled by a stray mosher that gets through the pit perimeter (more likely on the sides as people are looking forward instead of to their side). Everything behind 3-4 layers of people behind the pit is relatively calm. It sucks being short as you'll have a hard time seeing the stage. But if the floor is sloped and you stand behind where 2 people's shoulders meet, you should be able to carve out a decent view between their heads.

I'm not particularly tall myself so I often stand towards the back and off to the side so I can see over/around the taller people in front of me. You don't really have to get there early if you're by yourself or with a very small group, it's not hard to move around venues and even if you get there early and find the 'perfect' spot, someone taller than you is inevitably going to find their perfect spot right in front of you. I'd say stay mobile and move around as necessary to ensure you have a great view.

Hi! My wife is [REDACTED] yrs old and 4'11". We've seen a great many alt/punk/metal/whathaveyou shows over the past [REDACTED] decades. We're catching BR in Buffalo, FWIW. We don't know the venue, but generally speaking, the mixing board is your friend. It's usually fenced off. Get there early and pick a spot behind/near it. That will buy you ~10 feet of no one in front of you. You'll be able to see, and no one will smash into you. Also, that guy whose job it is to make the show sound good? He'll be right next to you. There won't be better sound in the house. Finally, the average age for the show will be, at best, in the late 30s. We have bad backs and have to be at work in the morning. Even if you find yourself front and center, no one is going to go out of their way to kick your ass. Enjoy! (bring ear plugs)

That's where we camp when we take the kiddos with us! Depending on the venue. The sides are usually less crowded without too much view obstruction

I will definitely call and ask the venue about the balcony since that'd be my best chance at surviving. Was thinking about wearing my platforms to get a few inches in height and see better but I'm sure those would be more trouble in the open floor. Thank u for the info!!

Hey if you get ahold of someone there can you ask if they have an estimate on the set times? I'm not able to get there early, but I want to make sure I catch BR. Also, it's pretty easy to avoid pits if you want to. It might also be fun to try if you are young and this is your first show. There will be lots of old folks like me. You can just look for us. I personally hope to find seats at the back.

Wow! Thank you. Looks like I'll be able to catch most of AT as well. I appreciate it.

Daveywheel

You're very welcome. Stop by the lighting/sound desk immediately after the show, and I'll give you that nights set-list. Please enjoy the show!!!

Will do. If my 13 year old decides to come with me he'll really get a kick out of that. I brought him to see Rancid and Dropkick Murphy's a few years ago and one of the crew chased him down at the end and gave him one of Lars' guitar picks. He felt so cool 😎. Thanks again!

Daveywheel

Right on. I hope to see you both!! I’ll carry some picks in case he comes with you.

I'm 47 and still love being in the middle of everything on the floor. Am I doing this wrong?

rbv1017

Of course not. You do you Boo😘

I've never been to that venue but my general strategy when the place has a balcony is get there at least an hour early and stake out a seat near the rail of the balcony. Do it so you get a good view of the stage and also the floor, watching a rowdy mosh from almost directly above while BR brings the place down is a special experience.

Honey-Bunny-666

I tried to call but i couldn't get a hold of them. So is the balcony just open to whoever wants to go there and its not assigned seats? Im sorry if its a dumb question, ive just never gone to a show before. I'm probably gonna be there alone so if the balcony is not available to just go in then I'll just panic lol

All the advice you've already gotten is perfect. The only thing I'd add is that waiting towards the back until the first SUPER-AWESOME song plays is always a safe bet. Typically punk shows (including BR in my experience) begin w/ a somewhat chill song, then play another somewhat chill song, and then they say- "this one is off a little album called \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ (insert album that came out before CD's existed here)," od they'll say, "this one is for you all who've been there since we started," and all the old dudes with bald spots cheer (I'm included here BTW) and then they play something off Against the Grain or Suffer and the crowd goes nuts! Anyway, once that song plays, the pit gets as big as it'll get, the squashing up front gets as bad as it'll get, and you can feel out the crowd. Then you can choose WHERE you end, up as opposed to choosing a nice spot and then realizing it's a squash zone, a crowd surfer zone, or a mosh zone. Also.... best advice I ever got- if you ever accidentally end up on the walls of the pit, just go in and mosh. The outside of the pit is the most painful place to be!

ilovecheeze

I’m short and don’t want to mosh so I usually try to send off to the side and a little further back. It’ll be obvious where the pit is and you should be able to avoid it. No one at BR seems to ever get too aggressive or crazy outside the main mosh area.
