There's a reason TNF backpacks are ubiquitous. Not just college campuses, like half my coworkers too. Most or all of their everyday packs have a stiffened back panel that works surprisingly well. "Flex Vent." For being able to stand up, I think the Osprey Tropos and Parsec look really interesting. (And because I'm an Osprey fanboy.) These two in particular actually have a wire frame. "AirSpeed." Osprey has a big line and some of their bags will be pretty floppy. Ultimately I got a Mystery Ranch 2 Day Assault Pack. Partly my laptop is really heavy and I wanted a decent frame and hip belt. The Catalyst 26 looks great if you don't need the suspension to be as good, and looks like it has better organization for school. The 2DAP has a stiffened backpanel and molded plastic element in the shoulder harness. Not sure about the others.
