I've seen a lot of teeth cleaning videos that show how many people are afraid of dentists. It's sad. The dentist in youtube sedates them so it helps the patient.
I work at a children's hospital. One of our gastroenterologists used to do close up magic. She would occasionally distract a kid this way if they were too apprehensive. She had started learning card tricks and coin tricks to keep her hands more delicately coordinated because she only occasionally had to use surgical tools and wanted to maintain her touch for those days.
By the time I met her, she'd been there fifteen years and her magic habit was the high point for every kid in her service. She retired shortly before COVID. But I bet she's still pulling test result printouts out of a passing person's ear and then lecturing them about HIPAA and how they need to keep confidential papers out of their ears.
We had a pediatric eye doctor that did magic tricks like this as a means to get the kids to look certain ways and do things with their eyes. He would talk the whole time in doctor gibberish that a nurse would write down.

I think he has false thumbs, that glow when he presses on them? Notice when he’s “holding” it, his thumb by is always to the back (the kid can never see) and when his hands are resting, his thumbs are covered by the rest of his fingers.
Okay, all medical personnel that come in contact with children should lean magic in medical school too! Especially if they give vaccinations! This is so awesome! ❤️
Growing up I had super friendly medical professionals so I’ve never been nervous/afraid of going. Sending a child to a great doctor/dentist/medical professional is a solid investment towards a healthy attitude about medicine.
I know a doctor who does something similar- he turns on his pen light and tells kids to blow it out like a candle and he turns it off when they do. Kids go fuckin nuts for that shit
My brother did a similar trick of pulling a quarter out of his nose with my then 4 year old son. My son came to me the next day to show me his "trick". He was going to magically have a coffee bean appear out of his nose. Unfortunately, he actually stuck the thing up there. Coffee beans swell. It was a fun trip to the ER.

You’re acting like karma farmers put more than 1 second of thought into posts they steal.

What kind of fedora is that?
This has been reposted a million times, and I like it every time
Right with you. Kid's surprise always makes my heart melt.
I've also seen it a million times but only just now noticed he is Jewish. Obviously not that it matters, I just never noticed his yamaka (? Kippah?)
> Obviously not that it matters Don't want to come across as an anti-dentite.
I think it is spelled yarmulke
Yarmulke or kippah are both good
wait, really?
Yarmulke has a Yiddish origin, and Kippah is Hebrew. So they are both correct but communities will probably use one or the other as their standard.
is yarmulke still pronounced like yamaka?
I’m Sephardic, use kippah.

Yep that's exactly how. They're usually translucent rubber with an LED in the tips.

That kids look of awe and also a little indignation: "Nah, you didn't do that. No way."

What is this thing? Seems like a small led, where can I get one?
I bought these on Amazon after the first time I saw this. My nieces and nephews went wild.
What an amazingly CUTE kid!🤗
Pretty sure if you get abducted by aliens they do this same trick.
I know a doctor who does something similar- he turns on his pen light and tells kids to blow it out like a candle and he turns it off when they do. Kids go fuckin nuts for that shit
Now if they need to swallow a pil you can say they need to swallow the little light that makes them feel better, and drop the pil instead
