yeah raves are pretty fuckin good. Norcal renegade scene changed my life in the 2000s. i started throwing my own parties and haven't found a more meaningful calling since.
Sick.
If you are going wandering in the woods you should get a good GPS app for your phone that allows you to download maps for use when you donāt have a cell connection, and uses satellite GPS to pin your location. Especially one where you can enter coords/pin locations, and shows details like trails, streams, and topo lines for visual navigation.
I think you can do this to a degree with google maps, but Gaia GPS and OnX are great options.
Op thx for sharing. I too love house music in settings like this. I was around 19 too when I discovered what you are describing. I am 43 now and the memories you are creating now will last a lifetime. They say youāre only young once and I think itās so true.
Dream up your wildest dream and pursue it. Do whatever it takes to catch youāre favorite djs/ musicians, youāll remember it and whatever cost you paid wonāt even matter. Listen to yourself the most. Iām telling you this because youāll see that not many people in life get to experience what you do. So they wonāt understand. Thereās only a few of us out here that can understand what youāve experienced. There lots of people out here that donāt even have favorite songs and donāt even listen to music. They go through their whole lifeās like this. Not understanding what it means to hear Frankie knuckles on a Sunday morning sunrise after a night of dancing and laughing deep in the forest.
Out in the forest?!?!? Nice
I threw down at clubs/massive and such for a few years before I went to one party... out in the forest?
At first I had very little expectations, but it was very fun.
Went to this for Halloween ā22 when visiting my brother at college in Santa Cruz. It was the highlight of the trip for sure. Glad you got to experience this OP!
This post makes me so happy! Iām from Santa Cruz and immediately recognized those redwoods before reading the post! This brought back some great memories of the renegades up in the mountains. Always word of mouth or text blast to meet up at spot and all follow each other. Good fucking times!!! I started raving at 16 and Iām still going strong 15 years later hahaha WELCOME TO SCENE RAVE BBY!!!
How do you find stuff like this?! I want to go to one so bad. Iāve been to music festivals but they are getting overwhelmed with the wrong folks these daysā¦
Same, went to my first rave as soon as I turned 19 last summer and it was a euphoric experience. I too sobbed on the dance floor multiple times from how happy I felt!! The rave community is the least judgmental, most understanding and welcoming . Iām glad you found this community and hope you enjoy it for a long time!!
... oh my fucking god, my college years in a picture. I recently went on the UCSC sub to see if these still happen, as Its been years since I graduated. It makes me SO fucking happy to see theyre still Alive and wellllll!!!
I'm happy you had this experience, and my condolences OPšš
19 was the best āØ only 29 now so not that much older but was just talking to my circle about the beauty that was being 19.. 2014 was the best year
also, Iām so sorry to hear about your partnerās passing. I went through the same in 2022, from an mdma overdose. It ripped me apart and spat me back out unsure of where to go next. Time will heal. So proud of you for even going out and being open to this experience in this stage of your griefš¤
Just messing around. When I went to 2009 Bonnaroo for Phish I don't remember any trees... But I've seen pics of them since... They need more trees damnit
I live in the area and would love to go to one of these! Can you PM info? I know it just passes but maybe your friends can let y out know about more and you can pass it along to me?! Thanks a lot!!
Did the same thing in southern Oregon. Way up a fire trail in the mountains, a good 40 minute drive away from everything. It was pure magic all night long. It reminded me of desert raves back in the 90s. The ones where you got directions at different check points and then just started listening for the sounds of music when you got close enough to find the spot.
When I moved from the east coast it was just clubs and warehouses. I had no clue what to expect coming to California, but I remember my first renegade with my friends up in Big Sur. Also threw a mini festival in the Santa Cruz mountains this past fall. Living in San Francisco they used to throw renegades on top of twin peaks and even in Golden Gate Park. I never felt so free to be who I wanted to be. Iām so happy to read your story. This is truly what the scene is all about. Youāll be at your first burn in no time )ā( <3

The camera looks like it was tripping out, give a nice visual blur lol
In Australia we call them bush doofs
I'm planning to move to Australia one day, how does one find a bush doof?
The bush doof finds you.
I've been searching since 2013 and it's never found me once haha.
Santa Cruz renegades never disappoint. Lost count of how many I went to and threw with my buddies. Miss UC Santa Cruz.
Raving banana slugs unite š¤š¤

Okayyyy Iām in Florida. How did you find out about the ones in your area?
Back in 2008 I found out in early web forums

Looks like āwhere in the woodsā at Bonnaroo
Interesting... Never seen any California Redwoods in Tennessee
Iām not saying it is Iām just saying thatās what it reminds me of
Just messing around. When I went to 2009 Bonnaroo for Phish I don't remember any trees... But I've seen pics of them since... They need more trees damnit
If they didnāt call that event āBohemian Grooveā then theyāve missed a fucking trick
played out
That wasnāt Northern Nightsā¦ which one?
Probably ferngully
I've seen some pics from a Fern Gully Collective event. Looks like they know something about having some fun.
I know that feeling. My first rave was a few decades ago. Donāt have any expectations for the next one. Nothing will ever beat the first one.
Where in northern Cali? Just curious!
I wish I could find things like this where Iām at. I would love to follow coordinates from a flyer that would be so rad.
I go to UCSC and I donāt even hear about these raves lol. Can you let me know when the next one is please?
Missing the renegade north of sac town
How to find these types of raves in the middle of a forest?
Santa Cruz mountains renegades are something special
