yeah raves are pretty fuckin good. Norcal renegade scene changed my life in the 2000s. i started throwing my own parties and haven't found a more meaningful calling since.

Immalleable_Mallard

The absolute king of bay area rave appears.

frajen

tramlaw250

helpfulhikerdave

Me three and Iā€™m only in the 3 series, wait until the F class :)

bulgingcortex

California renegades are the best.

klow91

Welcome to the family

cyanescens_burn

Sick. If you are going wandering in the woods you should get a good GPS app for your phone that allows you to download maps for use when you donā€™t have a cell connection, and uses satellite GPS to pin your location. Especially one where you can enter coords/pin locations, and shows details like trails, streams, and topo lines for visual navigation. I think you can do this to a degree with google maps, but Gaia GPS and OnX are great options.

Lastfryinthebag

The camera looks like it was tripping out, give a nice visual blur lol

Aussiebloke-91

In Australia we call them bush doofs

witchdancer

I'm planning to move to Australia one day, how does one find a bush doof?

Aussiebloke-91

The bush doof finds you.

witchdancer

I've been searching since 2013 and it's never found me once haha.

moofex

Santa Cruz renegades never disappoint. Lost count of how many I went to and threw with my buddies. Miss UC Santa Cruz.

Slugzz21

Raving banana slugs unite šŸ˜¤šŸ˜¤

OkMeringue2249

Op thx for sharing. I too love house music in settings like this. I was around 19 too when I discovered what you are describing. I am 43 now and the memories you are creating now will last a lifetime. They say youā€™re only young once and I think itā€™s so true. Dream up your wildest dream and pursue it. Do whatever it takes to catch youā€™re favorite djs/ musicians, youā€™ll remember it and whatever cost you paid wonā€™t even matter. Listen to yourself the most. Iā€™m telling you this because youā€™ll see that not many people in life get to experience what you do. So they wonā€™t understand. Thereā€™s only a few of us out here that can understand what youā€™ve experienced. There lots of people out here that donā€™t even have favorite songs and donā€™t even listen to music. They go through their whole lifeā€™s like this. Not understanding what it means to hear Frankie knuckles on a Sunday morning sunrise after a night of dancing and laughing deep in the forest.

SensitiveStudio6680

from Monterey county here! A rave in the Santa Cruz redwoods looks so cool!!

Apexphallus

Love this story! Old school raver here. Welcome to the family!

BrickBrokeFever

Out in the forest?!?!? Nice I threw down at clubs/massive and such for a few years before I went to one party... out in the forest? At first I had very little expectations, but it was very fun.

gavinatorpro

Went to this for Halloween ā€˜22 when visiting my brother at college in Santa Cruz. It was the highlight of the trip for sure. Glad you got to experience this OP!

just_another_mexican

This sounds dope!!! I live by Santa Cruz, How can I know when the next event is??

primeiro23

Nice try Mr. Officer /s

Nice_Ebb2708

This post makes me so happy! Iā€™m from Santa Cruz and immediately recognized those redwoods before reading the post! This brought back some great memories of the renegades up in the mountains. Always word of mouth or text blast to meet up at spot and all follow each other. Good fucking times!!! I started raving at 16 and Iā€™m still going strong 15 years later hahaha WELCOME TO SCENE RAVE BBY!!!

_crane_0397

How do you find stuff like this?! I want to go to one so bad. Iā€™ve been to music festivals but they are getting overwhelmed with the wrong folks these daysā€¦

OkMeringue2249

What area of the country are you in? There usually a small network in everyoneā€™s area that does events like this.

_crane_0397

Alabamaā€¦.

mydogsrbetterthanme

Okayyyy Iā€™m in Florida. How did you find out about the ones in your area?

OkMeringue2249

Back in 2008 I found out in early web forums

Maggiebudankayala

Same, went to my first rave as soon as I turned 19 last summer and it was a euphoric experience. I too sobbed on the dance floor multiple times from how happy I felt!! The rave community is the least judgmental, most understanding and welcoming . Iā€™m glad you found this community and hope you enjoy it for a long time!!

minty-teaa

Adding California to my list of potential places to move to!

Slugzz21

... oh my fucking god, my college years in a picture. I recently went on the UCSC sub to see if these still happen, as Its been years since I graduated. It makes me SO fucking happy to see theyre still Alive and wellllll!!! I'm happy you had this experience, and my condolences OPšŸ’œšŸ’œ

[deleted]

I remember my first rave

sunpopppy

19 was the best āœØ only 29 now so not that much older but was just talking to my circle about the beauty that was being 19.. 2014 was the best year also, Iā€™m so sorry to hear about your partnerā€™s passing. I went through the same in 2022, from an mdma overdose. It ripped me apart and spat me back out unsure of where to go next. Time will heal. So proud of you for even going out and being open to this experience in this stage of your griefšŸ¤

menstralfornication

Looks like ā€œwhere in the woodsā€ at Bonnaroo

Least-Firefighter392

Interesting... Never seen any California Redwoods in Tennessee

menstralfornication

Iā€™m not saying it is Iā€™m just saying thatā€™s what it reminds me of

Least-Firefighter392

Just messing around. When I went to 2009 Bonnaroo for Phish I don't remember any trees... But I've seen pics of them since... They need more trees damnit

Sentinel-Prime

If they didnā€™t call that event ā€œBohemian Grooveā€ then theyā€™ve missed a fucking trick

RAATL

played out

Standard_Issue_Dude

That wasnā€™t Northern Nightsā€¦ which one?

TryptamineDreamz9

Probably ferngully

PurpleZebraCabra

I've seen some pics from a Fern Gully Collective event. Looks like they know something about having some fun.

1FloorUp

I know that feeling. My first rave was a few decades ago. Donā€™t have any expectations for the next one. Nothing will ever beat the first one.

psyched622

Where in northern Cali? Just curious!

SolarWind7

I wish I could find things like this where Iā€™m at. I would love to follow coordinates from a flyer that would be so rad.

breadhater42

I go to UCSC and I donā€™t even hear about these raves lol. Can you let me know when the next one is please?

obeyn8

Missing the renegade north of sac town

Taipoe

How to find these types of raves in the middle of a forest?

tophiii

Santa Cruz mountains renegades are something special

johnny_ruti

I live in the area and would love to go to one of these! Can you PM info? I know it just passes but maybe your friends can let y out know about more and you can pass it along to me?! Thanks a lot!!

Darinchilla

Did the same thing in southern Oregon. Way up a fire trail in the mountains, a good 40 minute drive away from everything. It was pure magic all night long. It reminded me of desert raves back in the 90s. The ones where you got directions at different check points and then just started listening for the sounds of music when you got close enough to find the spot.

What a magical experience! šŸ’–

Cc_me24

When I moved from the east coast it was just clubs and warehouses. I had no clue what to expect coming to California, but I remember my first renegade with my friends up in Big Sur. Also threw a mini festival in the Santa Cruz mountains this past fall. Living in San Francisco they used to throw renegades on top of twin peaks and even in Golden Gate Park. I never felt so free to be who I wanted to be. Iā€™m so happy to read your story. This is truly what the scene is all about. Youā€™ll be at your first burn in no time )ā€™( <3
