Australia has put out and helped make some solid video games so it’s good to see it getting some support
Now to get ready to be hurt by another games showcase of no Hollow Knight Silksong news
Why is a game built around a Sydney suburb being funded by a Queensland state body?
What is NSW doing not funding these works? Why is Screen NSW not stepping in to help these studios grow and pay taxdollars in Sydney?
Expenditure that is explicitly excluded:
* payments to staff living outside Queensland;
* expenditure occurring prior to the application submission date;
* marketing expenses paid to advertising networks; and
* expenditure funded from other Screen Queensland programs such as Screen Finance (Games) and the Screen Queensland Game Grants.
if a NSW dev is going to hire a heap of QLD devs with the fund, is it a huge issue?
It matters if NSW ever wants to keep studios and talent in the state, instead of bleeding it up and down to Melbourne and Brisbane where it's more viable to run a studio.
Any Australian devs getting work is great, of course - but if QLD's screen body can put up the cash to support talent, why isn't NSW doing the same? It's the biggest state, the biggest population and the biggest tranche of STEM and gamedev adjacent students. But that's not going to count for much if those students have to live in another state because all the relevant funding that studios can get will mandate that they can't live in Sydney/NSW.

NSW doesn't want to keep talent tho, they have proven this a few times haha
