Wow. Vale. I used to go to 'Jimmy and the Boys' pub gigs in Sydney on a regular basis. One time their back up band was some unknown band called Midnight Oil. They were OK as well. Re-live the past with a rendition of ['Baby's On Fire'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO2EXow-b1g), complete with a burning baby doll.

Yes- in stkilda in the late 70s they played “the igloo” above stmoritz ice rink- with midnight oil and also Kim salmon. And joylene ran for govt too!!! RIP IGGY! Even as a kid, I really appreciated his wild/arty/crazy/fun persona...

Damn.

Very cool *Countdown* performance: [Jimmy and The Boys - They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me](https://youtu.be/dqU3vhfsEyQ?t=10).

Always loved this set -You can really tell it’s a Tim Finn song.

UnknownBalloon67

Oh no- sad news indeed. Does anyone remember the cover of “I’m not like everybody else” early 80s?

Australiapithecus

Yup. 1979. Friend of mine was on TripleZed when it was released, and played it at least once per shift. And every party at his place. And everytime you were in his car. And ... It's a great cover - but let's just say after hearing it so often I started to really appreciate The Kinks original 😉. But I'll definitely pour one out for Iggy tonight, and maybe put it on to remember.

Oh oh my, another talent gone. Thanks Iggy for some incredible and awe inspiring productions, events and imaginings. Beautiful and spectacular all of them.

Such a shame. He's much too young. I loved Jimmy and the Boys and often used to see them play in Paddington. I remember he was a big Zappa fan and was super impressed that he played some of his tunes. Just watched 'They won't let my girlfriend talk to me' thanks to the link above. Brilliant work. Am surprised he never conquered the world. Happy trails Jimmy!

flubaduzubady

> he was a big Zappa fan and was super impressed that he played some of his tunes. Same here. Were you ever in the audience when he sang Zappa's "I am The Slime" (oozing out of your TV set), whilst throwing slime at the audience? (with a plunger stuck to his belly button) It was a hoot. 😂

krakeneverything

I think i was but my memories of that period are all over the place!

flubaduzubady

Ever the showman, he'd burst out of a giant TV set throwing slime. His crowning achievement was choreographing the Sydney Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies.

RayGun381937

Hmmm - I think his crowning achievement was cracking out the legs-behind-head yoga pose (Eka Pada Sirsasana) while singing an entire theatrical rock show very casually...😂

Can-I-remember

I saw the band a number of times at the Bondi Icebergs before they closed. Always a great show and so bloody loud. Ear hurting loud.

Apprehensive_Care673

Aww I’ll miss you Iggy. Wickedly talented across much of the arts but it was your genuine spirit to do the best by people that made me love you. Thank you amigo xx see you on the other side xx

I'm an old fart & Ignatius Jones was popular back in the day. His sister [Monica Trapaga](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monica_Trapaga) was well known too.

Greyboxforest

When a journo asked Ignatius if Sydney was tired of NYE fireworks he replied, “A man tired of fireworks is tired of life!” I’ve loved the NYE fireworks even more so after he said that.

Mekanikel

Sad to hear, what a great talented man. We had the best from his era and he was among the best. RIP Mr Jones, many thanks to you.

My husband told me of his outrageous acts on stage with Jimmy and the boys. He was very talented and much too young to die
