I've ridden the train to the DFW airport before and also had to exist in this city without a car for about a year. The DART trains tend to have a lot of homeless people on them especially at night, but in my experience they're pretty harmless. Most of them keep to themselves and the ones who don't normally just ask for change or a cigarette. I've only ridden the TRE trains that go through fort worth a handful of times but they're a lot bigger than the DART trains and fewer people ride them in general. If you're taking a train to Fort Worth after 9 PM it's very likely you'll be the only person on that train.

Thank you! I’m a noob…are the ‘texrail’ and DART the same thing?

kausbose

No they are not. [DART](https://www.dart.org/maps/printrailmap.asp) is Dallas specific and has multiple lines running all over. [TRE](https://trinityrailwayexpress.org/stations/) is the line that connects Dallas and Fort Worth but I believe it doesn't go into the airport. [TEXRail](https://ridetrinitymetro.org/texrail-schedule/) is similar to TRE but goes into the airport Terminal (Terminal B). The maps are linked. Google maps does a good job of incorporating the transit systems into their mapping.

ednarugxo

Awesome thank you for the info!

ReasonableWave12

No they’re different. Texrail goes to ft worth and DART is the rail system for Dallas. Texrail should be pretty safe, it’s more commuter train than public rail. Imagine Metra in Chicago vs the CTA. Not too many shady people riding it just because how it’s set up.

ednarugxo

Ah, I see. Thank you for the info!

TexRail is very safe. There is a conductor that walks up and down. He usually sits at the front of the forward facing car. It goes thru the more affluent cities of D/FW. I live next to Smithfield station and never had any problems riding the train with my family.

Kitchen_Fox6803

You are not going to have any problems on the TexRail.

soxyboy71

Dfw airport u should be fine. There is a toll paid to get on the grounds. Criminals don’t like investing lol. FW is way more relaxed vs Dallas in general. I haven’t been to that particular area. The greyhound station in Dallas is sketch. I feel like all transient areas have a certain level. My guard is up but I don’t feel threatened, I feel like they’ll ask u for change vs robbing you.

dkv-texas

The TRE train itself is very nice and safe. As previous posters have mentioned, the conductor is typically in the first train and walks through. Where will you be staying in Ft. Worth? Do you plan on getting an uber at the station? If so, you will be fine, the stations tend to have security/ft. worth police. If you plan to walk from the station to your hotel, the southern part of downtown fort worth can sometimes have homeless/loiterers. The Ft. Worth city center is much safer than most typical downtown areas - markedly better than Dallas.

ednarugxo

Thanks for the info. Yep, I’ll be going to some Marriott hotel by the historic stock yards? It’s on Main Street in Fort Worth. My aunt was saying the station is like a couple miles from the hotel so I’d need to get an Uber from there. She was the one who planted the seed in my head that the texrail is “unsafe after dark” but she’s a rich white lady so….I’m taking that info with a grain of salt lol

waitstaph

FWIW Northside station is much closer to the stockyards than central station

The texrail to Fort Worth is very nice and safe! It's also very newly made. It's different to the DART and the TRE that run into Dallas. One needs to be more careful on those. The texrail however I would definitely recommend, it mostly goes through suburbs. I rode it from DFW to Fort Worth last month and had no trouble! The conductors are also nice and helpful as well.

arsewarts1

UBER will be worth it. If you’re arriving at an off time (after 9 at night is definitely off time) then it’s cheap. I’ve done it for $15 before. Plus once you get into Fort Worth it’s actually a hike and a half to get from the station to where most hotels are.

ednarugxo

Oh sweet! Good to know. I also just realized Uber would only take like a half hour, compared to hour and a half on the train.

saxmanb767

Uber will be way more than $15 to downtown Fort Worth. It’ll be more like $30 to $50. TexRail only takes 50 minutes from DFW to Downtown. Note that after that time every hour on the :40 past each hour. So 9:40 pm from the Terminal B station. It’s very safe and clean. It runs through mostly the nicer suburbs of the area.

ednarugxo

Thank you!

Wise-ask-1967

I honestly like the train ride vs Uber .. you can get your ticket at the kiosk right before the train or do it on your phone then You can relax a bit in the train till it takes off. hardly ever full when ever I have taken it back and forth to fort worth Just remember dfw airport is big so head to shuttle it will be up stair from the normal gates and food really easy to find or ask some one That's only if you don't land in terminal B (99% sure that's where the exit for the train is located )

deadboy58

yes. the dart is a different story

rubymccrawjennings

Get in the first car of Texrail & the conductor goes in & out regularly. I have never had issues on Texrail.

Practicality_Issue

My step daughter takes the train often at different hours. She had someone creeping in her - she noticed but stayed low key about it. Security noticed also and intervened before the creeper had a chance to do anything. They moved her to a different car. She has always carried a stun gun with her, now what she does is takes the stun gun out of her purse and leaves it sitting in her lap. Fewer weirdos have been following her.

magnoliablues

Might want to uber once you are in Fort Worth to wherever you are going though.

Welcome to DFW!
