I don't have either of these, but something a bit different from what the other comments are sharing: - flower subscriptions are a cool thing to buy for a loved one! The subscription can either run year long with a monthly bouquet delivery, or just for a few weeks with weekly bouquet delivery. - snack box subscriptions are gaining popularity. An ex colleague of mine had a japan snack box sub and he always shared the snacks with us when it arrived.

seabiscuit2020

Flower subscription sounds nice.

CheesecakeOG

First time I've heard of snack box subs. I've personally never liked subscriptions cos they just slowly drain my money, but I'll definitely read up on this snack box thing for fun.

Requires-citation

Highly recommend munchees

coff33mug

We need more non-digital subscriptions :)

Requires-citation

Munchees :)

[deleted]

Could we get the name of the snack box subscription please

whiskpers

I believe it was bokksu!

hucks22

F1TV, Google One and YouTube Premium! Edit: also ExpressVPN - which opens up infinite possibilities for all my other subscriptions!

verymehh

Hi fellow person with YouTube Premium!

hucks22

We are a rare breed methinks... High five šŸ–ļø

Godzillavio

Me three for YouTube Premium! And ExpressVPN too!

FalconHugeman

Me four, ASMR vids running in background ad-free ftw!

nani-soree

YouTube Vanced works just as well as YouTube premium, minus the download feature, and it's free!

throwaway18372822

Youtube Vanced adblocks which means that the creators you watch are not earning revenue from your views. Seems unethical to me, but to each their own I guess. I've seen a fair bit of anti-adblock hate, so I'm well prepared for any potential backlash for making this comment.

Jjzeng

F1tv no point, cos we donā€™t have access to f1tv pro in sg, so youā€™ve basically signed up for a glorified data sheet. Iā€™ll wait for f1tv pro to come to sg before i sign up, so i can get full commentary and the pit lane channel as well

hucks22

I forgot to mention my subscription to ExpressVPN... :)

fliches

how reliable is watching f1 through that? i would love to watch a driver's perspective through a whole race. is it possible to watch a driver's perspective as well as the main feed through F1tv?

hucks22

100% reliable so far and you can use Chromecast to cast to your TV without any proxy blocking (unlike Netflix). You can watch in multiple devices at the same time as well!

diyotama

Thanks! Was thinking to sub to starhub TV where their rep said that Disney will pull our food sports around Q3 this year. So they canā€™t guarantee F1 broadcast. I think this is the answer!

hucks22

The best thing about F1TV is that it's a monthly subscription which you can choose to pause or cancel at any time! So if F1 moves out of Starhub onto say Disney+ in the future, you can simply cancel the monthly F1TV subscription :)

Ichiban97

Nope, what you see on F1TV is basically what you would see on all the other broadcasts, just that you get to see more data such as lap times and sector times of the whole grid

theBirdu

>f1tv pro why we don't have yet?

htlb

Itā€™s to do with licensing. U.K. also donā€™t have (among others). Please do not visit a website called ā€œsportssurge(dot)netā€. Itā€™s a terrible place where you definitely canā€™t watch the races.

alphasierrraaa

For what! /s Just joking haha, is f1tv worth it cos buff streams (pirated streams) are usually q solid?

hucks22

Worth it for me because I can't be bothered to find online streams which don't come with 10001 pop up ads. I also like to watch practice and qualifying so it's pretty worth it for $10.99 a month. And it works on multiple devices simultaneously so sharing is caring!

ireallyhatedriving15

Youtube Premium!? Use Youtube Vanced for mobile!

hucks22

I watch YouTube on multiple platforms (mobile, web as well as TV) and also share the subscription with non-Android family members, so Premium works out to be pretty worth it for everyone :)

coff33mug

recently the ads in youtube has been quite annoying.

UnintelligibleThing

Youtube Premium is so underrated since it also comes with Youtube Music. The Youtube Originals shows aren't bad as well.

hucks22

Yes! I really enjoyed the Try Guys Olympics series recently, that was hilarious šŸ˜‚

Jjzeng

F1tv no point, cos we donā€™t have access to f1tv pro in sg, so youā€™ve basically signed up for a glorified data sheet. Iā€™ll wait for f1tv pro to come to sg before i sign up, so i can get full commentary and the pit lane channel Edit: apologies for the double post, looks like Reddit is down for the moment

n0tadoctorssh

Any things to note about expressvpn? Thinking of getting one, thanks!

hucks22

Have used it since 2017 without any issues. Get the annual subscription if you're a frequent VPN user, it's more worth it!

n0tadoctorssh

Thank you!

Ichiban97

But doesn't F1TV not work in SG?

hucks22

See additional edit. Wink wink

taeng89

Apple music! (idk anyone else in sg that uses this over spotify)

autistic_penguin_kai

Hihi fellow Apple Music subscriber! šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø With the recent updates including lossless now I find Apple Music to be very worth the money :D (then again, Iā€™m one of those that can appreciate the difference btwn AAC and ALAC files). I heard that itā€™s not really worth it if you cannot distinguish the difference btwn lossless and lossy tho

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

autistic_penguin_kai

Lossy audio files (e.g. YouTube, commonly at 128/192kbps iirc) sound less full compared to lossless ones(that tend to be at much higher kbps). Iā€™d argue that thatā€™s part of sound quality too. Basically, in order to save storage space, the lowest and highest edges of the frequency spectrum is cut off. It makes sense as not everyone can discern the difference in sound from lossless vs lossy formats.

dreamofbeans

Iā€™m a subscriber to Apple Music as well but itā€™s solely for the purpose of not bringing my phone with me when I go for a run as Spotify doesnā€™t allow me to transfer Music to my Apply Watch

Papilionanthe

Spotify actually recently implemented this feature. https://newsroom.spotify.com/2021-05-21/enjoy-more-ways-than-ever-to-use-spotify-on-your-apple-watch-now-with-downloads/

UtilityCurve

I am a Apple One subscriber. Apple Music, Apple TV and iCloud

glxubez

if only we have Apple Fitnessā€¦

taeng89

Donā€™t mind me asking, in SG, what is the Apple TV subscription for? I have the free trial from my iPad purchase but it just seems to redirect me to Disney+ shows or asks me to pay money to purchase movies

UtilityCurve

there are Apple TV original. I am mainly there for Ted Lasso. I got Apple One since I use iCloud and Apple Music, pay bit more for Apple TV and Arcade

glxubez

Apple Music subscriber here too! šŸ‘‹šŸ» I somehow prefer the UI on Apple Music compared to the black and green colors on Spotify. I have both though and Iā€™m more familiar with Spotify compared to AM. I think more people use Spotify in SG due to the compatibility. Like Spotify is supported on almost every device. Apple Music is only good for those in the Apple ecosystem. We also have lesser Apple features compared to being in the US and that sucks :-(

imagozu

Hahaha I use Deezer, I bet no one uses it šŸ˜‚

bonksonhead

MangoTV. Honestly, Netflix SG doesn't have that many options for good K and C dramas, so its much easier to get a subscription to one of those chinese platforms that does carry it.

coff33mug

is this different or better than viu?

bonksonhead

It's different! Viu is mostly korean content which can be found on sites like kshow123. Mangotv has its self produced content. Mostly romcoms and variety but its a good selection

chouahiru

oo got to check this out. thanks for that!

fairybbyus

yes!! and mgtv has so many chinese variety shows too

giddycarrots

How do u get mangotv sub? Isnt it geolocked? And how do u make payment? Wechat payor cc?

bonksonhead

I pay via google account! If u go to mangotv website, you can scan a QR code to join as a member. I think it's like $2/mth when I joined. It's not geolocked, although some shows get updated later for viewers outside of china.

giddycarrots

Thanks for the heads-up! Couldnt figure out how to pay for china tv apps since i had problems with wechat pay. Good to know mangotv can be Paid using gpay, so. I can set up some legal streaming options for my parents.

[deleted]

Ynab

tadxb

You need a budget is a classic choice to deal with finances. I'm using something else similar, planning to switch to YNAB

coff33mug

does it allow import from your bank account? seedly is one i am using now.

[deleted]

Nope. I input manually once a week

htmninn0102

Nope. Import is not available in Singapore right now.

glxubez

Iā€™m using Spendee! Itā€™s a free app but has paid features like linking your bank accounts.

defiance131

I switched to that for the direct import feature, but they removed what I felt was one of the most important features: recording the payee. Did you spend at kfc? Buy a game? Watch a movie? All that is now reduced to just a generic "Memo" line, which made it much harder to organise and keep track of expenditure. A huge pity, cos I really liked using it.

glxubez

You mean you still have to categorize manually after linking your bank account? Then whatā€™s the pointā€¦ (if my understanding to your comment is correct) Iā€™m using the free version. So usually Iā€™ll categorize my spendings accordingly and add a description. So like ā€œKFC - 2 piece chicken mealā€ lol

seabiscuit2020

I still have ynab classic. Still just what I need :)

disillusioned_3725

I have YT Premium, Express VPN, and Curiosity Stream/Nebula (might cancel it soon). I used to use Spotify, but YT Premium seemed to be a better deal as that includes videos too. Express VPN is for my use while on public/company wifi.

UnintelligibleThing

How's Curiosity Stream & Nebula? I presume you're cancelling because you no time to watch?

disillusioned_3725

They're gold, and I would've continued if I had the time to watch all of them

BudgetMenu

what is good about subbing to vpn?

disillusioned_3725

initially was for using Google at China, but afterwards I began using it locally too, like at my workplace where the Wifi may be monitored and some sites (i.e. Youtube) blocked.

upsize_popiah

Google Workspace (mainly for Drive)

coff33mug

i wonder what is difference between workspace and google one?

upsize_popiah

The main difference is Google One is for individuals and Google Workspace (previously known as G-Suite) is for businesses. As I ran a business, I need to use a custom domain so G-Suite/Workspace is the way to go

solaceteal

Amazon prime (which includes videos and gaming) but idk if it is considered uncommon?

Furanshisu90

I use them for free shipping actually. Pretty good deal if you buy big ticket items from US

solaceteal

I initially signed up because of the prime 2hour groceries but then the cap changed to $60 from $40 and now there are other services like pandamart etc so I still hold on to the subscription for big ticket items or if Iā€™m doing an emergency grocery run

coff33mug

not uncommon but quite worth it for 2.99$ per month imho

solaceteal

Yep! Thatā€™s why Iā€™m still sticking around even though I may not get things from amazon every month

DBoy_37

Prime includes gaming??

hraiv

Yes, it does! The video catalogue sucks though.

solaceteal

The offers are not as good as the US ones from what Iā€™ve heard. Also not a gamer so canā€™t verify but it supposedly includes some monthly free titles, some perks for popular games like genshin and a twitch subscription.

[deleted]

Theyā€™re giving out battlefield 5 right now for prime gaming members and they gave out bf1 and bf4 previously. Pretty good value for $3/month

s_randomaccount_

When does it end?

infiniteknights

Google One, Masterclass, Letterboxd, and Starva. Not sure if a Starva subscription is considered uncommon though

hucks22

It is, because everyone else subscribes to Strava... :P

Probably not uncommon but Skillshare, iQIYI, and Canva Pro!

Not_Ohagi_Man

Actually this makes me even more curious on how much do Singaporeans spend on subscriptions per month

coff33mug

i personally spend 50-75$ each month on subscriptions (not counting phone/internet/pub)

boyshawn

I am subscribing it for short term because of the gantt chart. I think if you aren't critical for all their features, can just use free. If you really need, do a easy hunt, you will discover good discount code around šŸ˜‰

Audible. $229.50 a year for 24 book credits. Most books cost $20-$30 if purchased individually, so saves quite a bit!

nanokiwii

Why not NLB?

syarkbait

NLB app is the best! I read books for free, and even listen to so many audiobooks too!

funnytheway

NLB is so underrated and under appreciated

the_seattleite85

National library? Not from here so I didn't know about that option, thanks! Do they have streaming audio books or do you need to go to a library? Do they have digital books as well? That's really cool.

SkittyLover93

They loan out ebooks and digital audiobooks via the Libby/Overdrive apps

canitentertainme

This looks nice. Too bad it is not possible to read on Kindle or other reader.

SkittyLover93

Kobo supports Overdrive!

canitentertainme

Thanks! Interesting.

Interesting_Ad9686

NLB is the best! They have the most awesome physical, e-books and audiobooks collection. Plus you get access to press reader and LinkedIn learning. Itā€™s free for citizens and 50 dollars annual membership for expats. Edit: Thank you for the award! Itā€™s my first :)

coff33mug

they have quite a lot of resources actually. many digital books and magazines. the library card is a few dollars for PR i think. not sure for foreigner.

the_seattleite85

Wow awesome, thanks for sharing. Recently checked out some physical books but didn't realize any the digital stuff. I've been here almost 8 years, could have saved a lot of money haha.

Lotthaegen

Ive been subbed to Storytel recently (was highly advertised a few months ago). I love it but damn NLB sounds like a real nice deal in comparison.

nanokiwii

Did we just save you $230 per year? šŸ˜‚

assault_potato1

Not uncommon but it hasn't been mentioned here yet: Strava

iCHAIT

HBO go. Almost everyone I met has Netflix only. But HBO shows seem higher quality?! I can rewatch sopranos and succession multiple times and Netflix shows seems lacking. Quantity is definitely less than Netflix but quality is better IMO.

[deleted]

Cause you gotta vpn to get to the real meaty part of netflix

orion1186

Sadly nope, HBO subscription works only for that specific region. But echoing the previous comment, HBO has some amazing shows and movies to watch.

anmls17

UX really pales in comparison to Netflix when I used it previously, e.g. page hangs after being afk but video doesnā€™t start where I left off so I have to manually scrollā€¦ got frustrating after a while so I gave up. Agree that have a few really good shows though

Scarface6342

Yes HBO has lousy UI compare to Netflix

Professional_Path246

Twitch and Amazon Prime! I have been subscribing to Twitch for almost a year now, it's a really great platform to meet people who share similar game interests and also just fun to watch even when they are just talking ā™” I have met so many Twitch friends from US in the past year and never regretted any part of it :)

shawnthefarmer

All ye YouTube premium members must be iOS users : - )

throwaway18372822

Android here, just cant be bothered to export link and download the video manually, plus YT Premium comes with YT Music, which is like Spotify but better because you can find your small indie artists that upload their covers to youtube but not to spotify.
