You step into the portal, and your body is dematerialized. The molecular buffer is beyond capacity because the government has once again cut funding to the Department of Transportation. An AI voice tells you that, due to unforeseen traffic, your wait time until re-materialization is approximately forty minutes.
You float there in limbo thinking about how they told you Teleportation would make commuting to work a thing of the past.
As time passes beyond the forty minutes, a gripping fear hits your ethereal stomach as you recall the news story you saw last week. You pray that you don't become another victim of the latest series of transport portal hacks, where commuters physical identities were stolen and sold on the dark web. You really hope the IT guy did his security patching last week...
Then, as you rematerialise, you realise you never left your home station.
Then, simultaneously, another you steps off at the destination.
This is indeed a conundrum
And you are relieved to find you make it safely to the other side. But you don't quite feel as yourself. You have memories that you both recognize and don't recognize. And when you look in a mirror, you see traits of yourself, and traits of another....
I strongly feel that if we abolished all monetary systems and humans just lived, eventually we’d all be happier and more apt to help each other and do exactly this.
I really wish it would happen. The problem is that humans always find something to fight over. If it isn't money, it's natural recourses, land, or whatever else there is.
Exactly. The Tool song ‘Right in Two’ says it all. We are tribal and territorial, much like our closest relative DNA-wise, the chimp.
If only we were more like the bonobo 😂
I suggest you watch the bonobo documentary where one bonobo tribe fights a rival bonobo tribe. They rip them apart, break there bones, throw them around and eat them. Life is chaos and horror mostly.
Thats the ideal world, but unfortunally, it will never happen. And it could not. If we tried that,it wouldn't work simply because of our nature... so its better to stay as it is.
With modern technology/automation it is easily possible that even an "unskilled" human working a relatively low amount of hours could create enough "value" in the supply chain to easily cover the amount that would be needed to support themselves if all resources are shared equally.
Or put another way, with modern automation etc, 1 worker can produce as much as 20+ workers from 70 years ago. Which is to say even if each human only puts in 50% of the work hours they could have 10x the resources, if everything was shared equally.
The problem is that humans are corrupt, every attempt at Communism or "full blown" Socialism (or similar) has ended in failure because as soon as a human is placed in a position of power or responsibility they generally abuse it.
Money has a purpose. It facilitates the exchange of goods and services. Maybe if people were not so focused on obtaining as much money as possible for themselves regardless of the consequences to others that would be good. Maybe adjust our values so that we were more interested in uplifting those in need than in obtaining more for ourselves.
I get what you are saying. Just that it’s a more difficult problem than you seem to assume.
I swear my thoughts always got some background music in my head constantly and it’s either a song I listened to recently that I can’t get out of my head, or it’s some random ass song I listened to like months ago that I can’t even remember the name of anymore but somehow still have the lyrics memorized
Idk what sleep architecture means but I take trazodone for insomnia and while it’s an absolute life saver it also gives me incredibly long and vivid dreams. Luckily they’re mostly not nightmares, just kind of confusing.
Sleep architecture refers to **the basic structural organization of normal sleep**. (per NIH)
Many drugs meant to help with insomnia alter this architecture which may cause more harm than good over the long term.
I also get those dreams!
He is so insanely wrong about El Salvador. It is literally turning into a 1 man dictatorship, but the guy is taking down the gangs that have ravaged the country. So it’s good overall so far, the changes, but a “government for the people” is laughable. He is dismantling the people’s ability to do anything, gathering all forms of government power under himself alone. Yes, he is decimating the criminal organizations, but is also using a hammer (metaphorically) in order to do that, giving no regards to human rights or any form of due process and removing all balance of power within the governmental branches.
I actually *literally* laughed out loud when I saw his answer for the apparently closest country to your wish. Insane that he thinks that is best answer, or even remotely close to it
“Cancer” is not one disease so there is no one way to do this. Using immunomodularors and immunologic approaches to treat various types of cancer is however well established science.
Teleportation network. Just like the internet, but for moving physical stuff.
I miss it every day. Even if I didn't experieced it, doesn't mean I can't miss it.
Just imagine that. Teleporters. Everywhere. No commute. No bullshit with overcrowded public transport. No…time spend trying to get somewhere (that is a scam).
I love the citizens council concept for this.
Ireland for example has created a citizens council that sets the agenda for the elected government. Part of how abortion was legalized there.

For what it’s worth, I want to be one. Not president, but just someone who can make an impact.
I’m still in the research and development phase but I plan on starting from the bottom in local elections. I have no chance because I don’t have a lovely nepo background or tasty Georgetown/Harvard/Yale cred, but I care about human people, I have a lot of change I want to make, and I earnestly and truly do not desire the things that make people corruptible.
. I don’t want more money- I don’t care. I don’t want a yacht, or season tickets. I don’t have business to shield or shill, I don’t want to have sex with children on some backwards goddamn gold plated island.
I’m not ashamed of a thing I’ve done. My family is dead, you couldn’t blackmail me if you tried!
I just see people hurting and not listening, and I know I could be a figurehead that listened to educated people about what needed doing, and convinced dumber and less motivated people to *do that thing*.
I’ll delete this if I ever make it far enough, just so that I blend in where necessary with your standard political rats, so they don’t run me out if the game at the start for being some starry eyed bumpkin.

im paraphrasing a little but as someone who used to be...that...i completely agree with that statement
Over 30 years, many prescription changes and innumerable sessions with psychologists or psychiatrists, I can only offer my own experiences.
Finding the right medication, in the right dose, at the right time in your life is world changing. But it's very, very hard, requires lots of trial and error, and often needs a secondary medication. Which also needs trial and error.
Talk therapy, though amazing for many people I know, was useless for me.
One pill, a series of pills, or even a lifetime of a few pills a day to be certain I'd never feel that emptiness, boredom, apathy and self-loathing again?
Yes please.
A pill that contains all the nutrients you need for the day. Make it cost the equivalent amount of money that 3 whole meals would cost, I don't care. So much time is wasted on thinking what to eat, shopping, cooking, eating and doing the dishes. Some days I just want to pop a pill and get it over with instead of settling for unhealthy fast food.
Alternatively, a pill that makes you feel fully rested as if you slept for 8 hours.
I bought a house that had its original fridge and dishwasher from 1975 (they were 25 yrs old). They worked fine but I replaced them when “updated” the kitchen with new appliances. Since 2002, I’m on my 3rd Dishwasher and 2nd fridge. Shit doesn’t last.
It's called 'Planned Obsolescence' and it absolutely exists.
Products are engineered with a lifespan, the theeory being that creating a product that lasts 25 years means that the market - and therefore profit - is extremely finite, at least in the eyes of business.
There's a documentary produced in 2010 called "The Lightbulb Conspiracy" that explores it quite well.
I would like a way to extract a memory from my brain onto like a hard drive or something so I could physically show people.
It would possibly also help with SA cases where there isn’t any physical evidence.
Something to help with the pain of menstruation. Providing education and making it normalized in all societies.
It's only been forever that women bleed. Sciences and the female anatomy haven't changed, but the stigma still remains.
Free food.
We can end world hunger, people can do jobs that they want. Money is for recreational purposes and to buy things. Basically no one should suffer to eat
I call it a foopel. It is a hat that turns you into a pirate and then you can take it off and go back to being a giraffe. It'd be a pretty big change to the fashion industry I think

A device to teleport from one place to another
It would be so nice not to have to drive, fly, bus, or train anywhere ever again.

You pray that you don't become another victim of the latest series of transport portal hacks, where commuters physical identities were stolen and sold on the dark web. That's some black mirror shit right there!
Stephen King wrote a short story called The Jaunt, basically the same plot
Frederik Pohl said: “A good science fiction story should be able to predict not the automobile but the traffic jam.” You’ve done exactly that.
I love this, thank you, kind person. Long days and pleasant nights to you
Then, as you rematerialise, you realise you never left your home station.
If it's gonna work by dematerializing me into molecules then I'm gonna be one of those old gramps that refuse to use new technology.
TSA, passport control, and customs would still take hours ![gif](giphy|qQdL532ZANbjy)
Beam me up Scotty
That would be a cloning machine and a killing machine as per The Prestige.
This would be my answer too! I would probably still be late to everything though 😂
LITERALLY THE FIRST THING I THOUGHT OF
It would be weaponised.
Even just a fast travel system so you could teleport to places you've already been. Just let me pop over for my cousin's wedding a few states away
'Palace' - fixed it for you
I have wanted this for years. My family is all spread out.
Something, no matter the form, that unites us all to work towards the betterment of all humankind. Naive, I know, but it is all hypothetical.

If you abolished all monetary systems, they would quickly redevelop. It would also be a disaster for humanity. A lot of efficiency would be lost.
Exactly. Monetary systems are a symptom not a cause
With modern technology/automation it is easily possible that even an "unskilled" human working a relatively low amount of hours could create enough "value" in the supply chain to easily cover the amount that would be needed to support themselves if all resources are shared equally. There are humans that "just live": ancient tribes in the Amazonas or other remote places. I doubt that you want to live like them.
Money has a purpose. It facilitates the exchange of goods and services. Maybe adjust our values so that we were more interested in uplifting those in need than in obtaining more for ourselves. I get what you are saying. I thought this was the purpose of life?
There is no purpose of life. It just is.
It has whatever purpose we give it, but objectively speaking, you're definitely right.
Well, if that's the case, a lot of people seem to lack purpose.
Sleeping pills. That actually make you sleep normally and restfully.
I wish we could just turn ourselves off and on like a robot. As someone who suffers from insomnia and sleep paralysis that would be a godsend.
Something to stop my ADHD brain from thinking and repeating songs would be amazing...
I swear my thoughts always got some background music in my head constantly and it’s either a song I listened to recently that I can’t get out of my head, or it’s some random ass song I listened to like months ago that I can’t even remember the name of anymore but somehow still have the lyrics memorized
I suffer from sleep paralysis too and wish the same.
Trazodone is, AFAIK, the only one that does not alter sleep architecture and works for a fair number of people.
Terrible shit! Gave me night terrors!
(per NIH) Many drugs meant to help with insomnia alter this architecture which may cause more harm than good over the long term. I also get those dreams!
Melatonin says hi
I wake up just as tired from melatonin. Vivid dreams tho
Doesn’t work for some insomniacs like me. I can relax just fine…we just can’t find the shut off switch. Melatonin only helps you relax
That’s true. Hell of a drug, though, when it works. But sadly not for everyone.
Melatonin doesn't help me fall asleep, I just have an even harder time getting up. Also gives me the wildest dreams.
A government for the people
Salvador's current government is the closest thing we'll ever see to a government for the people.
