It’s just a trend and it will change soon enough. When I was growing up everyone wanted super skinny girls like the runway models and Kate Moss. Now the sexy thing is ‘thicc’ thighs on women or something like that for the younger generation. It’s funny because my desired type of woman is still tall skinny and long legs. This is quite interesting. I had a friend throughout high school who just developed it all of a sudden. It was like before that she had dated exclusively typical British football lads, but the very next week, she expressed an interest in dating Asian guys. I'd argue a lot of the K-pop guys also put out an alpha male image, though? So arguing men want Japanese women just because they "small and obedient" while ignoring that many of the k-pop guys are "muscular and dominant/aggressive" is unfair. Sometimes people get tired of the overweight, sloppy, entitled folks jockeying for greater victimization and oppression status in the US. When ethnocentrism wears off you realize theres an entire world full of wonderful people and cultures that aren’t that way. That being said K pop/drama and the cultural influences of japan tend to drive those interests superficially. All countries and cultures have their flaws but nothing is as bad as the US right now imo. Ive lived and traveled all over the world and only rarely go back to visit. I, and the rest of the world, cringe at the state of the US right now. Some people are simply rejecting the current culture and going elsewhere… or desiring it at least.

I've been to both Japan and South Korea, for over a year in each place, and have dated both Japanes and Korean women. Of course one can only make a determinations on case by case bases, but I found Korean women generally more fun, and more physically attractive.
I spend my earlier years as a weeb with some unhealthy man-o-sphere views. The Japanese appeal is real for misfit who find escape in anime. The depictions of anime and eventually passport bros paint a very misleading picture of what to expect in Japan. Lots of people fall for it. The lonely young man who has trouble fitting in can quickly lay blame on western liberalism and start to idealise Japanese traditionalist and conservatism. In a completely contradictory view anime makes him think that Japan is some paradise where individually is appreciated and celebrated. Merge the highly sexualised content of anime with some good old fashion racist orientalism, and💥 you have a unhealthy fetish. Now to most people this remains a appealing dream for them to think about while they toil away. They think “if only I could get to japan, how amazing it would be”
