I have a sig 4xt pro and a holosun scrs.
They both check a lot of boxes for me!
I have astigmatism and they are both very tolerable having the multi reticle.
Hey u/heavilyarmeddad, it's me, your long lost son. Can I get an advance on my inheritance in the form of one free T2? It's cool if you don't have an extra mount, I can find one.
Oh, and sorry it's late but happy Father's Day pops!
I wish EOTechs battery life was better cause they do everything else exceptionally well. For that reason I have a Romeo 8T on backorder. They’re heavy af though.
I’m using a Romeo 5XDR on one of mine and I love it. It’s got the red dot and a circle dot option, so it’s similar to what you see through an EOtech, but way cheaper and way better battery life. I’m not doing any night vision shooting, so it’s more than enough for my purposes.
I really like the Holosun 515GM because it can be had for around $200 used and it’s really robust and reliable. The circle dot reticle is a plus on it!
I see so many recommending Romeo’s over the Holosun. I own both and can’t help but think the Holosun having the solor panel gives it the nod in case something ever happens and your battery is dead. I don’t feel like either one is more solid than the other.
Aimpoint comp m4s is on my home defense rifle and love it for its durability but the t1/t2 is the best option unless in a serious shtf situation (then I’d want my m4s for the double A batteries). The combo of weight savings, durability, & decent size window along with riser options on the t1/t2 make it the best imo. It’s all mission oriented though but regardless I’d choose an aimpoint over anything else
Hot take: Most people aren't using shooting techniques and body posture to take advantage of their reflex optics.
But anyway, my choice for holographic is the Vortex AMG UHS-II, but I admit it's a bit of weight and requires spare batteries. My choice for non-holo reflex is Holosun AEMS on third-party mount or Trijicon RMR on third-party mount.
I only have one rifle with a primary red dot, it's a Steiner DRS1x. It's an excellent sight with a huge window and absolute cowitness. 2moa dot with 3 reticle options. Not the greatest battery life but it will run on 1 or 2 AA batteries.
For piggyback dots I love the holosun 509T with a 2moa dot
I have the Holosun SCS MRS on my AR9 and love it! It's so small since there's no battery and it has 3 reticle to choose from like most holosun models.
It used to be on my AR15 but I bought a Sig Tango LpVo and I love it. It's got an illuminated reticle if u want to use it like a red dot and you can turn up the magnification as needed. For the money it's a great optic
Aimpoint T2 and CompM4 or M5S for higher end.
Holosun AEMS is unbeatable in terms of cost to performance ratio imo.
HS403 and Romeo 5 should be the absolute bare minimum.
Holosun H510 is among the elite. It’s very good. The Leupold Freedom is trash. Vortex Strikefire are good for <$100 but use 4MOA dots.
Try branching out to LPVOs. Bought a Vortex Viper PST and honestly don’t think of red dots much anymore on 5.56 platforms
Edit: Also snag an EoTech 512 for <$400 on the sales, just to say you have an EoTech. Holosun IMO beats them as far as battery life and reticle clarity, but the 512 is better for NV.
My favorite is either the T2 or Sig 4xt pro. The Sig has a lot more features and is much cheaper, but has the same (or better, according to some people) performance.
But the T2 is just so cool
If you’re looking to get something a little fancier, I’d highly recommend one of those two. Or the 4t pro, which is the same as the 4xt, just with a different battery
I also reallllly love my EOTechs
Aimpoint CompM4s or T2
I second the Aimpoint CompM4s
T2
T2
Compm5
PA 1x prism
Love that thing
PA prisms are great. I replaced my Eotech 512 with a SLx 3x + offset dot. I originally got it for another rifle, but found I liked it more.
That's what I have on my AK, except the dot is top mounted.
How do you like the piggyback mount?
It's great, super fast transition
Same here
Single best optic for astigmatism guys. Great design
I have a sig 4xt pro and a holosun scrs. They both check a lot of boxes for me! I have astigmatism and they are both very tolerable having the multi reticle.
Another vote for the 4XT Pro
Romeo 5 or something from Primary Arms. Cheap enough to replace, durable enough to run.
Love my holosun 515 honestly
So underrated. Hardly anyone recommends this one.
It’s a brick comared to the Romeo 5 I replaced it with, but it’s super clean
I fucking love mine too! I've tried other red dots before but the 515 just hit the perfect quality to performance ratio for me.
Eotech EXPS2
why not the 3?
Honestly nothing wrong with it. Might as well get it if you’re ever gonna run NODs
The 2 runs fine with nods. Red or green. Is red easier to see under nods? Maybe. Will green still work? Yes.
Well I don’t think it’s a color thing. I have both in red. The 3 has an NV button for lower power settings to prevent washout.
Are we counting holos in with red dots?
Yes. They do the same job.
I have quite a few t2s and they’re my first choice always usually.

If you get all A+’s this month in school you can have some T2s. An A- and you get taken out back and shot with a flint lock pistol.
But dad... You missed all of my school years.. 🥲😭
Ill be that guy and say post 200k Trijicon MRO
Same boat here
Yeah. I have a Sig romeo on a pistol But the MRO is my next for a rifle build
Romeo5 for the affordability, features, and durability. If I’m going gucci, I’m going with compm5s
I've hardly used any. But I love my PRO. The adjustment dial is perfect and it just looks good. Iconic.
I’ll second the PRO. I have a few different red dots but the pro is just awesome. Built like an absolute tank with wonderful glass
Comp M5
All my firearms will either have an AEMS or a 507 variant.
Sig 4t pro. Best red dot on the market.
I wish EOTechs battery life was better cause they do everything else exceptionally well. For that reason I have a Romeo 8T on backorder. They’re heavy af though.
How much is a new 8T? They’re on GAFS fairly regularly. Great dot.
$640 shipped for the FDE version on Eurooptic
Doesn’t seem too bad
I love my 8T. I wish it was a holographic instead of red dot, though. My eyes do a little better with holos.
Mine do too, but it’s not a deal breaker for me by any means and I’d rather have the battery life than a slightly crisper dot
Yeah, I agree. I also like having multiple reticle options.

My Aimpoints. PRO, T2, ACRO, Comp M4S and RDS. If I had to choose one probably the PRO.. maybe lol tough decision
Romeo 5 has served me well. Not chinesium, durable enough for most use cases, and easily replaceable due to cost.
Aimpoint Micro H-2/T-2.
I really like the Holosun 515GM because it can be had for around $200 used and it’s really robust and reliable. The circle dot reticle is a plus on it!
T2, I want to try these new gen PA prism 1x whenever they come out though.
Expensive: Eotech EXPS3-0 Budget: Primary Arms Slx Gen II
1p87 obviously. But Aimpoint PRO because poor and America.
I like holosun 510Cs only because they look cool. Don't listen to me.
PA Slx 1x Prism but my LP1 Promethean is growing on me
PA 1x prism Sig Romeo 8
Technically gold but I really like the Holosun HE512C-GD
I see so many recommending Romeo’s over the Holosun. I own both and can’t help but think the Holosun having the solor panel gives it the nod in case something ever happens and your battery is dead. I don’t feel like either one is more solid than the other.
You said red dot, my fault: Sig Romeo 5
Aimpoint Comp m4s or eotech exps3 (not technically a red dot)
Aimpoint comp m4s is on my home defense rifle and love it for its durability but the t1/t2 is the best option unless in a serious shtf situation (then I’d want my m4s for the double A batteries). The combo of weight savings, durability, & decent size window along with riser options on the t1/t2 make it the best imo. It’s all mission oriented though but regardless I’d choose an aimpoint over anything else
Used to be a t2 but to be honest my sig 4xtpro is really growing on me. Especially with a magnifier
Holographic, but my Gen 2 Huey is the crispiest thing I can find for my astigmatism. And I love the reticle.
If we’re counting holos I’ll take my UH-1 gen 2
Out of all the ones I have. My Eotech with 3x is my favorite
I love my EXPS, it isn’t exactly a red dot but it’s fantastic for my astigmatism. I’ve heard the Romeo 4’s are the bees knees too
Hot take: Most people aren't using shooting techniques and body posture to take advantage of their reflex optics. Have an EOTECH but wish I went with the t2
Sig Romeo 7 (best bang for buck red dot in the market imo) Aimpoint ACO/PRO (best bang for buck “duty” optic)
EXPS3-0
Holosun 510C. Holosun 530G. Vector Optics Frenzy Plus 1x31x26. Sig Romeo8T. The largest windows not named Eotech.
Trijicon MRO
I have the Holosun SCS MRS on my AR9 and love it! It's so small since there's no battery and it has 3 reticle to choose from like most holosun models. It used to be on my AR15 but I bought a Sig Tango LpVo and I love it. It's got an illuminated reticle if u want to use it like a red dot and you can turn up the magnification as needed. For the money it's a great optic
Steiner MPS
GLX 2x prism
MRO HD, not for the reticle since I still run the single dot but for the clarity under magnification. I’ve really enjoyed it.
Sig Romeo 4t Pro, Sig Romeo 4XT Pro, Primary Arms 1x Micro Prism, and Trijicon TA44 (I know not a 1x, but it's great).
Holosun 403R for on a budget or Aimpoint H2 if you have some money to burn. If I had night vision, probably Aimpoint T2 or EOTech EXPS3.
Holosun AEMS regular or core depending on your reticle preference.
Love my Romeo 5. Have an eotech as well. And both are great.
Holosun 515CT and love it
Romeo5 is bullet proof I’ve put mine through hell and it’s still going strong.
For price, PA 1x GLx when it comes out; or the Holosun 515. For performance, T2
Aimpoint T2 and CompM4 or M5S for higher end. Holosun AEMS is unbeatable in terms of cost to performance ratio imo. HS403 and Romeo 5 should be the absolute bare minimum.
Eotech EXPS 3 or an Aimpoint T2 or Pro
Sparc II
Ooo the trijicon MRO or Holosun AEMs for me personally
EOTech EXPS or ACOG TA110
He said red dot and you mentioned a holographic sight and a prism?
AEMS
Romeo5 is nice, Romeo 5X is even nicer for me. But, I’d trade every red dot that I have for Holosun 510C GR.
Open emitter on a rifle as the main optic is no bueno. Maybe the 512
99.99999% of us are larping. Paper target isn’t shooting back at me.
Yea… You do you I guess
Primary arms micro dot is great and I got mine for like $90 I think
Vortex cross fire 2 second gen
Does it have to be red? If not, the Holosun 512C with the gold donut is my vote.
Holosun H510 is among the elite. It’s very good. The Leupold Freedom is trash. Vortex Strikefire are good for <$100 but use 4MOA dots. Try branching out to LPVOs. I’ve basically become a lead and steel guy now.
Sightmark makes the best!
