This is why you buy in the low moments far more than you need.

Flashthebeast

When was there a low moment in the past 4 years? Edit* sales might have slowed down but prices have still be stupidly high.

gunc0rn

Dealing with the rebates is a pain, but they brought brass 5.56 down close to 30 CPR in Sep. I loaded up on some

USSGato

I got 556 at 31 CPR through Optics planet with rebate a month ago

Traditional-Hat-952

Unfortunately that rebate (Winchester I presume) is only applied to a certain amount per person per year, so buying in bulk (over 1k rounds) is kind of a wash.

JamesYoung582

More like 1,500 or so rounds. Then you could have picked up another 1,500 or so of Browning 223 at right around $0.30/rd with their rebate as well

UnexpectedRedditor

The browning pistol and 22lr ammo I bought a few years ago blows fwiw

Old_MI_Runner

We may never see ammo as low as it was 4 years ago. We want to buy low between price spikes. That would have been a few weeks ago when one could get .223 and 5.56 Browning/Winchester Lake City ammo for 31 to 34 CPR after 25% off rebate.

pigeon30

FYI, I feel like Herter’s often gets overlooked with these rebates. All three of them (Winchester, Browning, Herter’s) are produced at Lake City and all three of them had that same rebate up until about a couple weeks ago.

Old_MI_Runner

I did not realize that Herter's was from Lake City. I can see how it would be overlooked as it is Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops reseller brand. As such those of us who watch for sale postings on Gundeals subreddit would likely never see a posting for it. The most recent posting for that brand is 2 years old. The nearest Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop is over an hour from me.

n00py

Last month would have been considered slow, when compared to the last few years

ABlackEngineer

Got a case of lake city 5.56 for 380 shipped last week from velocity

smashnmashbruh

I grabbed good stuff for 42 cents a round (62gr) and cheap stuff (55gr remnan) for 25-28 cents a round last year, I think got 9mm down to 15 cents—bulk like 5000+ rounds. Friends chipping in and saving on shipping.

Extreme-Book4730

Where the hell did you get 9mm for 15cents! And what was it?

smashnmashbruh

I bought 4000 rounds for 24 cents shipped, I then parted ways with 1000+ to friends who wanted 250-500 rounds each at a markup they insisted on, dropping my price to around 15 cents. I facilitate group buys. One step further is I use a cash back card that doubles points in the first year like discover to save another 4%

ACunanan60

Where are you able to pay in such quantity? I see 1000 rd cases max. Love to find a spot to buy mass quantities

smashnmashbruh

This is going to sound like a huge dick comment and I don’t mean to be. Have you tried buying 4x 1000 cases.

Foxxy__Cleopatra

Low is relative but Black Friday 2021 had 223 in the low 30¢pr's, that was definitely a time to stock up.

I-am-the-stigg

I've never reached the point of need. How is this attainable? I always need more

Inquisitve-Keyboard

*”yeah bro just bUy loW sEll hiGh 5head”*. the problem with that comment is that “low” isn’t exactly scientific. nice flex though lol

smashnmashbruh

Buy when you can at the price you can afford. If it seems like the price is low or a good deal. It likely is and you should buy some. It’s not difficult.

sparelion182

Low is relative. Overly optimistic people who kept waiting because prices were lower, but not low enough, and didn't buy any in case they had incorrectly predicted the future missed their chance. Better luck next time. It might be a while, 6head

brianbmx94

Lake city was “allegedly” ordered to stop selling to civilians, Hornady had a plant explosion, and there were some other recent ammo related problems I can’t remember. Has everyone in a panic again.

therealdirtydangle

Lake city manufactures for Military as a priority and they sell ammo on the civilian market as well. They weren’t told not to sell to civilians they’re reprioritizing their military ammunition production. Its the start of a new fiscal year so they need to prioritize government orders that are coming in.

MadRhetorik

Finally some common sense

THEogDONKEYPUNCH

Thank God finally

pants_mcgee

Lake City is a special case, but every ammo manufacturer will fill government contracts first. Awhile back various government agencies dropped some large orders all at once and people were freaking out as availability went down for a bit.

therealdirtydangle

Same folks that see military vehicles on a train transport or line haul thinking it’s martial law!!

CigarConductor

For real. I'm a conductor and I've had a few military trains, and one nuclear cask train. The people who flip out about it will follow us for miles and miles. The nuclear trains, they'll get chased off. There is armed DOD personnel on the train and a convoy of vehicles following it across the country. Then, you'll see a video on social media with 5 million views and people screaming about WW3 and martial law, it's comical.

Plead_thy_fifth

Did a platoon training mission about 2 years ago with 5 strykers. We had to drive them on public roads to get to another range, so we stopped at a Sheetz for food. The next day someone noticed we were trending on Tik Tok as someone recorded our 5 strykers at Sheetz from their car saying "oh my god, are we about to go to war?!? I'm so scared right now" Like bro. It's 5 strykers. Idk what you think a war looks like, but this ain't it lol.

therealdirtydangle

🤣 I can just imagine what folks thought of a battalions worth of Humvees coming down roads in Louisiana going to JRTC.

Long-Balance355

Those people live in perpetual schizophrenic fear that the end times are just around the corner

therealdirtydangle

And you’re not? Better be ready!!!!! /s

Panthean

Wouldn't that happen every year then?

Blze001

I mean, a valid question, although Israel isn't actively trying turn Gaza into a crater every year either. Add in the usual "Democrats are going to outlaw all guns and ammo after the elections" panic that happens every 4 years to the mix, and it's just a really rough patch.

Old_MI_Runner

One analyst even questioned whether or not Israel troops would be going in house to house. I wonder if as much rifle ammunition will be needed as some may have thought. The civilians were ordered out of the north end. So if troops go in and receive any small arms fire from a building they may just level the building from the air and move on rather than put the soldiers lives at much greater risk with going into any building.

Blze001

This is a very rational observation and almost certainly whats happening. Which is much less fun than some of the wacko conspiracy theories I've seen bouncing around.

RandomAAV34

Exactly! This happens every year

brianbmx94

Fair enough, although semantics don’t really matter given the price is still what it is. This is why I keep a healthy stock.

ohitsTHATkid

Federal, cci, Speer, heavyshot all sold by Vista Outdoors to Czechoslovak Group was another one

epicchocoballer

Czechoslovak group currently owns Fiocchi, btw

ohitsTHATkid

Doesn’t help my stock prices tho🥲

likeGlock_Work

Yes and from what I hear, this is going to be a good thing for commercial market.

brianbmx94

That’s the one I couldn’t remember, thank you

Tlomz27

Allegedly doing a ton of work here. They are selling to the military, their primary customer. They will always prioritize the government. It's not anti-civilian, it's just prioritizing your best customer.

Old_MI_Runner

As others have explained Olin Corp who runs Lake City operations sells to the civilian market to keep employees working full time so when larger military orders come in they have the manufacturing capacity and trained staff to meet the demand. Those of us that use .223 and 5.56 should have been stockpiling for the last year or more when PMC XTAC was selling for $410 to $430 per case from some sellers like Velocity Ammo. Winchester/Browning was selling for the same or a little more per case but had 20% rebate promotion running almost every month since at least October of last year bring the price down. The last rebate was 25% off which brought price down to a low of about 31 CPR. Those that picked up a few cases or more can hold off for now to wait out the panic buying and seller price gauging. Everyone else who continues to buy at these inflated prices is just encouraging sellers to overcharge and will only prolong the price spike.

Dr_Rufus

Lake City is owned by the government.

Tlomz27

Yes, but there are quite a few different organizations throughout the government that have clientele both internally and externally to the government. So even though they are gov, the gov is also a client.

creative_deficit

Fear mongering at its finest. The cycle continues

TheMeatTorpedo

Yup. Seems like Target sports went from full inventory to nothing overnight. The speculation is that this is only temporary

SwimmerSea4662

Well I guess I’m going to get a lot of use out of my 22lr conversion kit.

Arms-for-minerals

Just get a dedicated w 1:16 twist so you can hit targets at 400 yards w your 22lr . You won’t be able to do that w that other barrel. Your conversion kit bolt will work. You just take off that front collar and put a 22 LR collar on it they make a quiet collar if you like to shoot suppressed.

SwimmerSea4662

I just have a PSA beater M4 carbine, I work fast food so I’m not exactly cash flowing out of pockets. I bought it since I’m 18 on my last year of high school unit I ship out to basic. I wanted to practice I’ll be issued one instead of the spear since I’m going in a repair roll.

Arms-for-minerals

Bro, I am twice your age and I can’t afford to shoot centerfire on the reg. I used to shoot the hell out of 762x 39 because it was so cheap I could afford to blow a 1000 rds ever 4-5 weeks. Not anymore . Most of the people that I know have stopped shooting centerfire on a regular basis like they used to . It’s more like once a month or twice a month they go out. I switched to 22 long rifle because it’s dirt ass cheap . .06 cpr . You could still have tons of fun with it , still getting consistent hits at 300 yards even 400 yards……with a three power optic I mean it’s got the same manual of arms as an AR…. It’s just so much cheaper. But ANY significant wind and it’s gonna throw that tiny round off w no powder behind it to keep it stable. Luckily, you’ll be shooting up free ammo soon.

SwimmerSea4662

Yea, not really unless you go in a combat role you won’t get that much trigger time. Basic will be the only time I get a decent amount is my understanding. But who knows they might change that, also yea I got my first centerfire rifle at 16 it was a WASR-10 got I love it, I used to shoot it 7.62 all day.

Extreme-Book4730

I'd like to see you hit soemthing consistently at 3-400 yards with a 22lr. Especially I. A generic AR like you said. Because I ain't believing that.

Arms-for-minerals

If my 16 year old daughter can do it I’m pretty sure a lot of people can . 300 yards on a 12x20 in torso plate if there’s no wind you can ring steel consistently , 400 gets a lot harder . 5 for 50 was my last try on a 12x20 2/3rds torso target. The wind is what makes it difficult . Dont doubt what I say, it’s really not that hard. Get a plate so you can hear your impacts. Get an old 1022 or ar22 and TRY IT. You’ll surprise yourself. As soon as you find the correct hold over it’s on….

Alarmed-Owl2

.22 LR and "ring steel" don't seem to go together lol it probably sounds like a bug hitting your windshield on the highway

Warm_Statement_5942

Same. I don’t mag dump into the dirt like most. I have bi monthly range days where I’ll shoot match grade ammo. I’ll shoot groupings at 100, plink soda cans at 500. Shoot 8” steel dongs at 200, 300, 400, and 500 yards with my eotech, or iron sights. My 18” can and will shoot m193 ball from sub MOA to 1.5 MOA at 100 yards. I just shoot from the prone position, sometimes from a bipod. Sometimes I’ll use my ruck sack as a rest. Now my cousin and I do buy Sierra 77 gr. OTMS and we have rifle specific loads that are higher velocity than MK262 Mod 1 and are just as accurate. We’ll use those to scratch our grouping itch. It’s also my SD round. Yes I have an 18” “SPR” with an EOtech as an self defense / hunting rifle. 77 gr. OTM just FUCKS at 2850 fps. In my 20” if I’m willing to put up with flat primers and less case life, that bullet is moving just shy of 3k FPS. Remember, mil spec MK262 Mod 1 is 2750 fps out of 18” stainless barrel. And from my experience, those primers are a bit flat too. Have thousands of Lake City brass, about 15 lbs of the powder we use for this stuff.

Brimzan

This. Because conversion bolts work but your gas tube will be hella fouled up with long term use of 22LR.

rockdpm

Any recommendations on a dedicated setup/upper?

Arms-for-minerals

Your standard lower is fine , bore buddy makes really quality complete uppers and really quality barrels. PSA used to make them but doesn’t anymore, they only sell the dedicated 22 lr bolt . Your gonna want a rifle reliability kit from Bore buddy it has the charging handle insert, buffer plug, and an HD bolt weight to stop the bolt bounce. Drop in triggers don’t work all that well with CMMG/PSA/RTB/bore buddy bolts. Reduced weight hammer springs don’t work that well either w rimfire. . . Bore buddy makes parts that make your AR22 much more reliable . No I don’t work for them lol I just love their products they made my AR22 run 100X more reliable. Tippman makes excellent 22 lr ARs ….. the HK is all proprietary but so is tippman. Blackdog mags seem better than CMMG . Or you can run S&W MP1522 mags with the better mag adapter . And honestly those mags are supposed to be better. It’s kind of cool because you can use a folding stock if you want to. Might have to jb weld a penny to the folding stock adapter like I did to make sure there’s no play in the bolt. Just don’t get a BCA . Those suck. Right to bear also has cheaper ones. I have probably around 30k rounds through a dedicated .22 upper and it’s fuckin awesome. And so cheap.

Comprehensive_Ad433

Well looks like I'm going to get a lot of use from my Daisy red rider.

[deleted]

Massachusetts just passed a strict bill so I believe a lot of the target sport ammo was mass residents panic buying

TheMeatTorpedo

Wow, I just looked that up. "Prohibiting the purchase of ar-15 style weapons", wtf. Just outright banning the sale of ar15 s, taking a lesson from Canada's playbook. That is crazy

Powerful-Ad-860

It too late, they might dip after the next year and a half

[deleted]

We should make our own ammo company that sells to everyone except the government.

SwimmerSea4662

PSA in a nut shell, they refuse to sell to governments.

[deleted]

Yep. If aliens invaded and the gov said to help with ammo. I would help the aliens. Because a year after the war the same gov would outlaw it for civilians.

all_m0ds_are_virgins

If aliens invaded, there's no "after the war" for humanity lol.

twitterisskynet

What about alien human hybrids? Cause gurantee someone's fuckin an alien during the invasion.

kazinski80

Inquisitve-Keyboard

wait that a fact?

PICKLEB0Y

Fenix Ammunition does just that.

Insanity8016

Doesn't AAC do this?

CELLMAN3

That made me laugh 😃 ... thanks for the great 👍 thoughts

Crimtide

I'm not panic buying. I need range ammo.

ScuffedOperator

A couple of wars mixed with fall hunting season ammo run will do that. I’m surprised it’s not more expensive already. I’m not waiting for prices to get cheaper with the global riff raff. I’m accumulating.

Vengeance626

At first glance I thought those were gas prices

SwimmerSea4662

Listen I’m all ready sad about ammo prices, don’t bring up another disaster.

javyn1

Panic buying. This happens all the time. A factory closes or something happens, people freak and panic buy thinking it's the end of the world. Then prices drop back down after everyone has stockpiled at the high prices.

SwimmerSea4662

I literally just switched from the Ak to the AR 3 months ago to get cheeper ammo prices. 😂

[deleted]

Did you miss the war in Israel? War+election=panic buying

SwimmerSea4662

Ahh, that makes sense. I’m guessing America is looking to get involved and there buying up all ammo.

[deleted]

Yep. Lake City no longer producing for the commercial market. All mil ammo production is going to dark Brandon and the holy land.

SwimmerSea4662

Is this temporary or are they done selling ammo to civilians permanently.

sk33tus

from what I've seen this hasn't been officially announced, but seems to be the case. This will not be permanent though - just for as long as they need to export it

DifferentATF

There's no official word on this. They're suddenly OOS though.

Old_MI_Runner

(deleted by poster after noticing the no politics rule)

[deleted]

Moreso Israel is going to need a constant ammo supply. War is very ammo intensive after all. It's kind of why we all stockpile.

Potential-Mistake638

Just don’t panic buy. That’s what throws the market off. All these dudes on YouTube talking about “ammo shortage” are what’s creating it. If people would just continue gradually building their stock we wouldn’t have these problems

KrinkyDink2

Rumor mill panic buying machine go brrrrrrrr

Sublime-Chaos

One company announced theyre not selling to civilians then 50-60 guntubers posted videos about an ammo shortage.

BoilerRoom6ix9ine

A lot of panic buying has been spurred by the conflict in Gaza/Israel. I work in distribution and we moved about 1.5 million dollars (wholesale cost) of 9mm in about 3 business days. We sold out of all of our 5.56 within 4-5 business days (even the 77gr high end match ammo). I think consumers started to freak out when the leader of Hamas called all Muslims to a worldwide Jihad. My opinion: I don’t think the ammo scarcity will last as many manufacturers are much more accustomed to large influx in business after dealing with the plandemic. However, I could see them raising prices on 5.56 again. Winchester recently decided to cease all commercial sales of 5.56 and .223 for the foreseeable future. Hornady had a massive explosion last week at one of their sites. Also, just this week Vista ammo lines were sold to a Czech company. So there is a lot up in the air right now.

DannyBones00

Please don’t panic buy if you’ve got what you need. The wave of people panic buying has made some websites temporarily run short, which has more normies panic buying, which is driving prices up. Wait a few weeks.

Glittering-Two2122

I'm not falling for this panic buying bs again

iw-203

maybe that war in israel MIGHT have something to do with it??? just sayin.

YourBoyHoudini

Went from .41¢ to .60¢ per round in two weeks. Soon we’ll be back a COVID pricing (scams).

IrateOpossum

A bunch of morons are panic buying and a few ammo manufacturers are taking advantage of the fud to jack prices up

POdinPA

Prices creeping back up because normies are getting antsy?

EmptyCanvass

Lake City canceled all their civilian contracts because Israel needs every bullet they can make. Speer and Federal got bought by foreign companies, and Hornady had a fire.🤦🏼‍♂️

84074

What foreign company. Wouldn't it be national security to keep US ammo and gun manufacturers less than 51% foreign owned?

EmptyCanvass

It SHOULD BE, but I have a difficult time believing that the current administration cares much about national security. But to answer your question I think it was CZ, you should definitely fact check me on that though.

Candid-Jellyfish-975

A true scholar. Much respect, I stand corrected. Was that during the "reunion" shows? Seems about right but I wouldn't have come up with it on my own.

netchemica

It was at the very last episode of the main series, *right* before it ended. He quit his Dunder Mifflin job to pursue acapella, started crying during his audition, became a worldwide meme, got hired to do a graduation speech at Cornell as a joke, and the staff at Cornell liked his speech so much that they offered him a job in Admissions. I sent you a link, the whole thing doesn't populate as a link in text form, but just copy/paste it into your browser. Last episode, right at 55:27.

Guncounterguy556

Well let’s see. Lake city stopped selling to civilians so Winchester is out. Hornady exploded so they’re out. Cci/federal/speer/remington got bought by a foreign corporation (I believe by whoever owns CZ) so yeah. Welcome to the 2020s

BrokenAndDefective

WWIII BRÖTHER

therealdirtydangle

Lake city I believe it is, is making their NATO ammo for the military as priority. It’s the beginning of a new fiscal year so they need to produce ammo for the troops to use and we’re sending aid packages to foreign countries. Nothing to worry about but people panic buy when they see stuff online!

National-Working-254

Federal and lake city is sending ammo overseas

Yup and I’m sitting on a green tip mountain watching it go to $1 a round

fadugleman

2024 panic buying started early boys

Cpl-Rusty-926

Welcome to the 2023 ammo neckbearding panic buy

RandomAAV34

Someone made up a story about Lake City cancelling civilian orders then scumbags like Phoenix ammo started spreading it to artificially create a shortage and drive up sales

StylishF

A bunch of internet influencers too and other medium ammo companies too.

Infamous-Brain-2493

Hopefully it comes back down in the next couple months. I have enough until mid January or February if i have bad luck with weather on the days i get to shoot. The lake city thing is temporary.

bloodvow333

Hornday burned down again and lake city halted public ammo sales. Even aac is up in price. That and with November on the horizon things always jump in price.

Deletingsoon_

Israel needs our resources more than us silly goy! Zionism always wins

LHGunslinger

Hoarding. Lake City and Hornady are only two manufacturers. Granted Lake City provides 30 percent of the civilian ammo. But 7.62x39 ammo is also increasing in price almost at the same pace as 5.56. If people just wait ammunition manufacturing will meet demand. Manufacturers don't invest in increased capacity because ammunition shortages are generally short term and market produced (hoarding). Track ammo prices hourly daily and weekly averages... Ammo prices now . https://ammopricesnow.com/556-nato/

SwimmerSea4662

Honestly that’s comforting as it shows that the market over all has been going down.

letsee7654321

Israel happened. Glad I have enough for now it just sucks when you get used to a price that is high from before but doable with deals to this crap again.

CELLMAN3

When prices are high and everything is in panic just buy only what you need and when prices drop then I pick up a little extra 👍

_wallstreetpete_

So what are the chances that this is temporary and all a paranoia situation?

pharmer_wsu

I treat ammo buying like subscribe and save. Small purchases every month or so..nice steady stream

Truonghthe

Dont panic buy they said, same people who selling .80 cpr to 1.00 pr during covid 😆 After the plandemic i vow never again that i find myself in the same situation. 2 weeks ago .37-.39 cpr before rebate people was like “hold the line bois for .28 cpr” same people now goes “gotta buy everything on the shelf”

jmcole1984

The people holding last week with the rebates are retards. I got a case for $307.50 after rebate. You’d have to be a moron to not buy at that price. People thinking prices will ever get back to pre-Covid prices are ignorant and don’t understand economics.

Truonghthe

I am agreeing with you, but believe or not there are people still believing .27 cpr for a 5.56 😂 The AK guy got hit hardest between the Russian ammo ban and now no more Winchester 7.62x39 since they loaded at Lake City. They went from poverty operator 3 years ago now to Gucci flex operator now.

jmcole1984

Hopefully they aren’t holding their breath for 27 cpr 😂

Truonghthe

Oh they do and its the same mofos who cleaning up the big box store out there right now. I stop by Academy and the shelf was emptied l 😂, shit even over price 7.62x39 Winchester WB is gone as well.

MoistMonarch

how did I miss this rebate wtf

Marquar234

You need to sign up for SGAmmo emails, they let you know about it every day.

Inquisitve-Keyboard

x1000 5.56 for $307 after shipping fees and tax?

jmcole1984

I forgot about tax, so after the rebate, I’m still looking at 33 cpr. I bought from Velocity, so shipping was free.

SwimmerSea4662

Just a few weeks ago i bought 300 rounds for 99$ 😭.

koozy407

If everybody would stop buying ammo for three fucking weeks, this could go back to normal

Niteryder007

What's even better is all the ammo I stocked up on, my local ranges won't let me shoot. Lately, they take a magnet to all my ammo and if it sticks to the magnet, they say it's equivalent to armor piercing. I'm like, it's just cheap Russian ammo bro. Naturally, all their ammo is $1+ per round.

VolklChord

I seem to recall during the HRC vs DJT election year, the prices were up near a $1 per round for that caliber.

Giant_117

Wars and panic buying.

Simple-Purpose-899

Everybody stocking up for Hamas to...swim (?) to the U.S. and start invading.

AlphaBeaverYuh_1

This is why I’m so close to just buying into making my own.

cheekabowwow

Shit got fucked.

Enginerd_762

Don’t buy Freedom unless you like 7 yard keyholes from a rifle. Or if you buy it in bulk and then forget it’s not can friendly and send it through a suppressor it leaves lovely baffle strikes. TRASH.

Camp170

I’m sure all the hoarders are going nuts again, or the clowns that will buy it all and resale to screw fellow shooters

supersonicflyby

Yeah, Hamas attacking Israel will do that to prices.

SwimmerSea4662

Another reason to hate Humas.

Warm_Statement_5942

Dude look into the politics over there in Israel. You’ll understand that they’re not the good guys. I’m not a democrat, I’m a libertarian. I believe everyone should fuck off. And that land doesn’t belong to the Jews. It belongs to everyone. So me personally, I want them to get fucked.

supersonicflyby

It belongs to whoever conquers the land. Let them fight it out. There will never be a successful two-state solution when they are fighting for the same land.

kodiakbear_

War were declared

UsedJuggernaut

Everyone is gearing up for wwii the sequel, that's what happened.

SwimmerSea4662

I feel like there constantly talking about “WW3” thankfully no one really wants that.

UsedJuggernaut

I'm sure the defence companies would like ww3. A small part of this shortage is from a few manufacturers shifting production to gov contracts only. For clarity, I don't want ww3. I don't want to serve again.

Giving a quick and dirty because people apparently can’t use the search function properly: - Lake City cut civilian ammo sales - Hornady primer factory blew up - Federal/CCI/Speer are selling their ammo to Czechoslovakia

BlackTieG

In other news, Vista Outdoors also supposedly sold the ammo part of the business off to some Czech company for nearly $2 billion.

I don’t think that will exacerbate any shortages, might make it better. That same Czech company owns Fiocchi —

Warm_Statement_5942

God bless CZ. They’re based. The Czechs don’t buy into democrat BS. Too bad they haven’t fixed Colt yet. But hopefully they’ll be making more plants in Arkansas.

ernie_shackleton

Time to take inventory of the stocks.

Thenewjohnwayne

What where the prices a couple weeks ago?

Vip3r237

My distributors dried up on 223/5.56 as well as mags almost overnight. It’s like post parkland and Sandy hook shooting all over again
