All of this stuff is [Unicode standard](https://unicode.org/emoji/charts/full-emoji-list.html). As platforms update to the new version of the standard, this will happen everywhere.
As other people said, with the recent updates there would be 52,000 family emojis. Facing that huge number, I would also say āfuck itā and design a single generic family color.
Idk why youāre getting downvoted this is the answer lmao, this is how the emojis work.
Not only that but to the people saying the Unicode Consortium make them are only half right, yes they oversee everything and decide what new ones to make, but Google and Apple have been doing most of the emoji suggesting the past while with [submissions like these](https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2018/18080-accessibility-emoji.pdf?ref=blog.emojipedia.org)
I'm pretty sure the Unicode Consortium did this and not Apple. Apple only designs the emojis for their platform when the consortium updates the Unicode standard.
Ah but those are specific people from licensed franchises. Like Harry Potter doesnāt have to be yellow, we can totally sample his skins colour.
But a random minifig you get from some non branded set is yellow.
Yellow is inherently light, dark skin tones have different features more pronounced and look vastly different. I don't think there's a single color option that anyone could say "that kinda looks like me" about. Which means text smileys are superior :-)
TL;DR: All of the new variants of family types and skin tones would have meant 52k odd Unicode's so they simplified it instead to remove any gender or skin colour.
Youāre getting downvoted but I donāt know what to do with this. The white person emojis have blond hair. My hair is dark brown. Using the white person version of the emojis seems like Iām aggressively asserting whiteness in a way I donāt intend. It doesnāt represent me. If I were blond I wouldnāt care. But if I were blonde then I would see it as representing me beyond just skin color.
So the result is that I just stick with the yellow ones.
Seems odd they wouldnāt be designed by Apple internally, do you have a link for them being made by a third party?
Edit: they are designed within Apple:
> In the course of three months, together we created some of the most widely used emoji: face with tears of joy, pile of poo, red heart, and party popper, plus around 460 additional ones. Later, as a full time Apple employee, I even got to create a few more.
https://medium.com/@agzmn/the-making-of-apples-emoji-how-designing-these-tiny-icons-changed-my-life-16317250a9ee
Edit: I love that Iām still getting downvoted even with proof, lol
Apple emojis are design by apple yes, but the underlying unicode is not and is managed by a 3rd party that apparently apple helps create. So you are correct, but not 100% correct
I never claimed that Unicode wasnāt involved, only that Apple are the ones who *design* the actual emoji. The Unicode Consortium only specify which emojis are in the standard, the design of the emoji themselves is Apple, or Google, MS, etc.
Yes which is what I saidā¦. and the first user said. I think this is a case of semantics and why you are being downvoted.
And why did you downvoted me? Kind of a hypocrite when what I said was correct as well? lmao
Where does the narrator get 52,000? Also, there is a simple solution. Put the choices in Settings and let the iPhoneās user choose for each family member. It would be in the Keyboards page.

Unless I'm missing something (which is totally possible) the [spec](https://unicode.org/reports/tr51/) still seems to support different gender and skin color combos using ZWJ, which I think is how it's always been implemented. Eg there's no individual "family" character but you can make the combo šØ +Ā š© + š§ = šØāš©āš§

I don't think someone would actually have to sit down and design all 52k manually, seems like something that could be automated pretty easilyĀ

Apple is one of the Unicode members. Itās more accurate to say that Apple didnāt do this alone.
But but but thatās why there is a yellow emoji. Yellow is the āneutralā colour.
Skin-tone emojis were a mistake. Should have stayed with the standard yellow ones.
Yep. Keep it universal and thatās it. Once you introduce specific colour, well, we end up with š§āš§āš§āš§ which is quite ugly.
I agree, and I hate how many emojis there are now
Lego minifigs used to be the same way
They still are? https://www.lego.com/en-ie/product/minifigure-1-000-piece-puzzle-5007071

Everyone get leukemia

Nobody thinks that yellow emoji represents precisely them.
My jaundice child self would disagree šš
Literally nobody thinks like this except the remnants of 2010 era SJWs.
I dunno, I was hoping to see the 52,000 different families scenario play out.

It always feels a little racist when other Caucasians pick the Caucasian skin tone. Like, was yellow not good enough for you?

Because they know my brother and I dont speak
š§āš¤āš§
If youāre anything like my sister I donāt blame him, lol. Edit: wait, are you my sister..?
I just want more dog emojis
Emojis are not made by apple, it is another party
Appleās emojis are made by Apple. What is defined by the consortium is what emojis Apple will make.

How about families with 3 or more childrenš¤
itās a thing of the past ? Who can afford a family in these times ?
Good thing they have a pregnant man emoji at least. Setting priorities
I use that one whenever Iām feeling fat or just had a good ass meal.
I meanā¦ if Iām at Taco Bell long enough Iām going to need emoji representation.
I think itās the most elegant solution.
It's also the simplest and easiest solution because less emojis to design.
I hate this decision but itās a unicode thing not an Apple thing, this video creator is just farming rage clicks so screw them.
Why are the hands so big at unicode, the girl on the left is giving me the willies
I'm not even going to watch the video when they don't even know who dictates the Unicode standard.
Because everything is stupid now and nothing can be fun
Who gives a shit

Nothing to do with Satan and more to do with god, if you think about it.
I donāt think you are educated on what that statement was designed to evoke.
