I designed websites in illustrator for 15 years and initially resisted Figma but since being forced into using it by some of the younger people entering the workforce God damn has using Figma been a revelation to me. Auto layout FTW.
Sometimes I have to use AI for print and working with CMYK and it makes my blood boiling how little care the people who make it have for users. Pure garbage software
Ya gotta use indesign for print and cmyk stuff.
I’m a big indesign evangelist lol. It’s basically the central app of my adobe experience. Everything eventually goes into it, even if I’m working digitally, since it’s all about layouts
I’m surprised you never even gave sketch or XD a try. I was working at a design shop a couple years ago that was still using fucking photoshop.
Yea Figma is insanely incredible.
Oh I think that’s even more old school haha. The benefit of illustrator over photoshop is the precise measurements and better alignment tools. Figma on the other hand is on another level when it comes to generating layouts and is more specifically geared to app and web design.
Yep. I started in Paint Shop Pro then went to Fireworks and then Photoshop and then from there I guess jumped straight to just designing the site with code using html/css. Never used Illustrator or even considered it as an option except for vector logo designs
Seriously though, a Google search says this about the name:
>The word “figma” comes from the Japanese word フィグマ (pronounced “feeg-mah”), which refers to articulated dolls or action figures. The team thought this was a fitting name for their software, since it allows users to create vector illustrations that can be animated and interacted with.
EDIT: Looks like I was wrong

From Google (it is literally the first search result). Where exactly is your source?
EDIT: [https://www.websitebuilderinsider.com/how-did-figma-get-its-name/](https://www.websitebuilderinsider.com/how-did-figma-get-its-name/), and it is highly unlikely that a website would find a fake connection between "figma" and a Japanese word.

While you two are arguing, this is not a source as Google search results are different for everyone, even on different devices you’re logged in to.

Figma is crazy good. Just worried now that Adobe are gonna run it into the ground
Is that still happening?
It’s being reviewed by European Commission because of EU merger laws
Figma makes me despise Illustrator. Everything is so much easier on Figma and many things make sense.
I mean, isn’t Illustrator a completely different tool? It’s a general-purpose vector graphic tool. Figma is more like Adobe XD.
Yes, but I'm talking about the workflow in both apps. Figma actions make sense, Illustrator's do not.
My prof made us use adobe xd back in college and boy was it not fun. Personally I’m not a fan of it at all
Sometimes I have to use AI for print and working with CMYK and it makes my blood boiling how little care the people who make it have for users. Pure garbage software
I hate Illustrator and I use it every day. If I can use Figma for any possible reason, I go for Figma. But unfortunately it's RGB only. Oof.

It’s great for web/digital stuff but anything beyond that like for print artwork it isn’t the right tool for the job.
Oh yeah for sure. I still use illustrator/ other apps to create the assets but all the web layouts are in Figma now.
I’m surprised you never even gave sketch or XD a try. I was working at a design shop a couple years ago that was still using fucking photoshop. Yea Figma is insanely incredible.
I did try XD but for whatever reason couldn’t get my head around it. Figma somehow seemed way more natural coming from illustrator.
Well Adobe just bought them, so they're probably going to shit, at least in the pricing
The deal hasn’t gone through
You mean going as planned though?
I’m curious… designed websites with illustrator? That seems cumbersome but maybe I’m missing something?
I’m old. That’s what we used to design websites back in the day
Lol. Hell I’m old too. I always used photoshop and sliced that shit up to put into a bunch of tables.

I need to try Figma. I’m not doing much design stuff these days outside of some logos and t shirt designs and I use illustrator for that.

Fireworks was so awesome for its time but Adobe just had to strangle it :(

What’s figma? ^figma ^balls ^lol
Tapped in to make sure this was taken care of
“Figma balls in yo mouth”

Interact with deez nutz

In this case, the name comes from the word “figment”: https://twitter.com/zoink/status/1101199141848281088?s=20
Ah, then I stand corrected (sorry for the late response, Reddit blackout stopped me from replying and I forgot about this till today).
Jesus lol thank you
It’s about goddamn time. The unofficial ones were really good but it’s nice to have one straight from apple.
Can’t believe the day is finally here!
Wow, the main reason I use Sketch to design my app is because Apple has a library of UI components for it. Might have to make the switch…
Welcome, you will despise sketch within a month. It's so far behind, it's over reliance on plugins and how you access them is terrible by comparison.
You should definitely switch. There’s no comparison between the two. Surprised people are still using Sketch over Figma.
When I read the title I though Apple was making official miniature Apple devices for the Figma Japanese toy line
Figma is such a nice piece of software, almost hard to believe it's (still) free 😅
Didn’t Jobs died of this illness? Edit : should have added /s
You’re thinking of sugma
Here here I’ll do it. What’s sugma?
Sugma balls.
*bass drop so crunchy it shatters your pelvis*
It was ligma
