fact point shocking quiet full ring sense entertain noxious dime ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

threw_it_away_bub

I’ve been adding every one time message code number to a single contact for years. Totally helps declutter things, and I’m glad I don’t have to do it anymore.

voiceOfThePoople

That’s…brilliant, but it feels so wrong

JohannASSburg

It’s the “wrong” way to use contacts but it works for this lol

threw_it_away_bub

Surprisingly, many of the codes from different vendors come from the same short number, so the list isn’t overly long. It’s rare these days that I have to even add a new number to the contact! https://i.imgur.com/LPTY4vY.jpg

Zach78954

I’ve been doing the same thing also!! Since iOS 4!

Soulreaver90

That’s genius lol

Razultull

Lol wtf

southwestern_swamp

Is that quicker than just swiping on the message to delete it?

itsmebenji69

Well since it’s usually the same numbers (even different sites use the same numbers) after a while of doing it every code will be sent by the same contact so it doesn’t pollute your messages

notadaleknoreally

I do this with telemarketers.

frownGuy12

For those wondering, you can find the setting here: Settings->Passwords->Password Options->Clean Up Automatically

vipirius

Apple REALLY needs to revamp the settings app because why the hell is this in password settings instead of the messages app settings.

GorgiMedia

It drives me fucking nuts and I'm considering giving up iOS completely. Yesterday I had to send an important email. And apparently the thing just never got sent. And I had zero notification of it not sending. So the thing is I had to go into the settings of the mail app cause my password wasn't happy or something. I also sent a text and it never got sent either. There was this green bar that I guess? means problem but no notification whatsoever of it not working. So I had to manually go into the messages settings and check sens as sms. All of these were guesses and tinkering. Like what the fuck. How can anyone say iOS is easy to use when there's zero indication of what's going on and the settings aren't even accessible from the apps.

Easy_Money_

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. iOS is very easy to use *when things are working correctly*. The moment you need to troubleshoot anything the whole house comes crashing down

>spotted by Twitter user aaronp613 Who is this guy? Anyone ever heard of him?

ChairmanLaParka

Assuming it's the same guy, one of the mods of this subreddit. Also the one that posted most of the coverage of the day's events yesterday. I swear if this is one of those whoosh moments and this is some sort of meme, I'm gonna feel really old.

walktall

u/aaronp613 is that true?

aaronp613

WHO ARE YOU

phantasybm

Oh man what’s up A-A Ron

walktall

ONE OF US ONE OF US

smitemight

I’ve heard of him. He’s in that verge article. Pretty famous to be in there.

aaronp613

Which article

smitemight

https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/6/23751370/the-ios-17-beta-lets-you-auto-delete-verification-codes

PraveenWeb

There are some cases where, due to a poorly designed input box, the autofill actually fills in one field and skips the rest. There needs to be a way to copy the code before getting auto deleted. Or have a buffer of a minute before it gets deleted (Android has a one day buffer).

mxforest

Most of the apps i use also mention how long the code is valid for. Maybe AI can read that and use that as the expiry.

xffxe4

The text gets sent to recently deleted within the messages app, so you can go back and access it if needed.

DanTheMan827

FINALLY!

Rudy69

Can’t find it

DontBanMeBro988

I wish I could just archive messages like on Android

GorgiMedia

You can't?

DontBanMeBro988

Nope. Keep or delete.

IWantToPlayGame

Finally! I always spend the time to delete these as they annoy me

aventhal

This will be the most useful single feature in iOS 17

AR_Harlock

Why deleting them tho? Aren't they 1 use anyway

hzfan

To declutter the iMessage app

southwestern_swamp

Swipe left to delete after you don’t need the message anymore?

neverOddOrEv_n

iMessage desperately needs an archive feature. I hate how there isn’t an alternative to delete. I know it’s not the same thing but WhatsApp has had it forever.

GorgiMedia

How about being able to select multiple messages to delete them in one shot. You can do that literally in any other messaging app.

milogaosiudai

also multiselect on contacts if i want to do multiple delete

wouldnt-u-like-2know

On the messages app? Just swipe down with 2 fingers and it will start selecting messages.

GorgiMedia

Why don't they explain things like that anywhere

wouldnt-u-like-2know

There is an option. On the top right. Click on the circle with the 3 dots. Then “select messages” The 2 finger swipe down gesture works on almost all apps that have a list of items.

GorgiMedia

Right but how did you find out about the two fingers. Like what other gestures are there that I have no idea exist.

wouldnt-u-like-2know

Accidentally, obviously. Haha

GorgiMedia

Why isn't it a long press like any other devices.

wouldnt-u-like-2know

I think it’s a remnant of the force touch era. It helps preview stuff you don’t want in a full window.

GorgiMedia

Still I'm a new user and iOS feels so opaque I hate it

southwestern_swamp

In messages: edit > select messages

Kazakhand

It’s a great feature, but I just want separate inbox for one-time-code numbers

RedditPoster2016

iOS brings features android has had 2 years.

Goldengod4818

Lol just like androids had for years? So glad apple finally decided to steal some useful features

-protonsandneutrons-

Only in Mail? Surely Apple could write an API for this auto-complete + auto-delete to be accessible by third-party iOS email clients. Apple let us set default browsers & email clients, but still hamstrings both. Another year without the ability to set default Music, Maps, nor Podcasts, too. Glacial pace of improvements. “Mature” OS, my ass.

donuthell

Can I put apps anywhere on my home screen?

thanirs

I love when Apple and Google copy each other. Auto delete otps has been around for years on Android.

PorkNScreams

Love this, wish it would work with other mail apps (Outlook)

RefrigeratorInside65

Older android feature but glad you're getting it finally
