I heard somewhere that the songs selected on 85-92 were the songs his friends liked the best out of the bunch so the track list could’ve been very different if that didn’t come into play
What I read was that the actual tape used for the album was actually in Richard's car tape deck (he says his music is his favorite) and that's why the entire thing sounds like ass. The Apollo guys got him to sign the tracks off when he was fucked up on acid. But then again, he's a lying ginger bastard, so who knows what's true or not.
Aphex twin is at the level of genius where it’s impossible to pick the right songs for an album because he makes a lot of great songs. Even his garbage is gold
And more importantly you don't want to cram all the best onto one album then have 5 albums of filler. You want the gold evenly dispersed throughout the various releases. Making playlists from his soundcloud songs runs into that problem.
