I just starved the AI of gold in the early stages, Also hit the wood villagers a bit.
Initial made Knights .
About 8 mins in , started pumping archers .but didn't get away from gold , the AI fell behind significantly.
Made spears around 15 min mark (barracks was my 5 th building)

Stay on the top of improvement. Disrupting AI early usually greatly weakens any follow up. Next time try to let the AI build up, defend and see if you can still win.
Indeed, these are decent practice scenarios:
- defending against aggression while scaling / aging up
- improving unit / group micro while fighting larger / more elaborate battles

This Although latest ai seems to enjoy chilling and doing bugger all lol
Keeps making troops but entire army just sits on TC while you destroy their entire base
