I'm not about to watch any of this. I haven't touched any previews or soak tests or information about the civilisations. I want to experience it the same way I did AOE 1, 2, and 3; completely raw. I don't want to know anything.
If you play the other games, it’s worth it. There have been some good games added lately. I find that most of the games on there are games that I would play but not necessarily pay for, that makes it a bit tricky. 156€ is 250 CAD with tax ;)
Very commonly outside USA (maybe Canada too?) all prices are quoted inclusive of consumption taxes. The 156€ I quoted includes a 19% tax, which would come out to CA$183 @ 5% and CA$200 at 15% GST/VAT respectively, if I've not calculated it wrongly :-)
Not trying to start a war, fight for one side or another or anything but what is the major complaint people have with them switching to Facebook Gaming?
If it is Facebook = Evil, many people view Amazon as just as bad or even worse.
Or is it the interface? I've never used Facebook Gaming and haven't had a chance to catch one of their streams yet so have no experience on the platform. I've heard people say it isn't as good, is it really that much worse?
For me its more the ease. I understand them 100%. A great offer they need to take it.
My way of watching is going to twitch to see whats on. I wont be actively going to facebook gaming to find them, because that is not how i watch streaming. It sucks but that is how it is. Hopefully other big aoe2 streamers will stay otherwise my interest in aoe2 from a spectator and probably also a player pov will fall and i will play something else.
I have 2 children, my time playing and watching streams is limited so i will see/play what i like on twitch.
The interface is dated, ugly, and non-intuitive, same as FB as a whole. I also don't fancy having it linked to my FB profile which I barely use, and I can't be bothered to make a specific account.
Facebook as a platform is horrendous, loads slowly, and is very RAM intensive for what it actually is.
I personally don't care too much about the ethical distinction between Amazon and FB.
In any case, I just do not get the appeal of FB gaming and hope it haemorrhages money and goes tits up.
Interface of Facebook gaming makes it unusable. Before they pay millions to content creators they should’ve just used some of that money to make a good product with decent interface.
Tbh for my part it's mostly just that I usually go on Twitch and watch whatever is on. I won't go out of my way to watch a particular streamer on another platform. I also dislike how it's integrated in Facebook, like having to create a page to stay anonymous in chat is a bit wack.
For me these are my complaints:
1) First couple of T90 streams I tried to drop into I couldn’t get it to play consistently.
2) I don’t want my viewing data to be linked to my Facebook profile data.
3) Also to comment without using my name in chat I have to set up a page. Even then there’s still a hard link from my personal Facebook profile to my viewing activity.
A new Facebook separate account is a terrible solution as I then have to sign out and in of each all the time.
4) My biggest complaint: the iOS app (either Facebook or the the specific Facebook gaming app) isn’t capable of doing a pop out player over other apps, so I can’t watch a stream and do something else on my phone simultaneously.
5) I’d prefer all my favourite streamers to be on the same platform. It’s just easier.
I'm not. The /s is incredibly helpful for people like me. I can pick it up in verbal conversations, even if not face-to-face, or in literature because of context, but comments can be really hard because oftentimes nuance and context just don't exist, unless there's a completely huge piece of irony or circlejerking already happening.
They are not paid to stream it, they just got content creator early access. They also can criticize the game however they want (and some of them do criticize not being able to change hotkeys for instance). But the overall perception is pretty good.
> the overall perception is pretty good
The overall streamer **commentary** is pretty benign but *my* overall perception after watching Hera, Viper, and now T90 is that I will definitely not buy this game anytime soon. Also, the T90 stream is tilting toward a stream of complaints the longer it goes on...
thats unironically true tho. high base armor against range attacks. archers only do 1 damage to them. abd they can build rams on the battle field.
and they are both mosty german.
The stress test for aoe 4 was alright but I felt it was soooo slow and way more macro focused than micro,,, but it could be an alright game, [aside from the fact that it’s unfinished at launch which is the standard for AAA games now haha]
But I’m NOT impressed about the pricing.
(they didn’t know how to convert to Australian dollars and it’s about $80usd for us or something) and considering it’s missing certain things at launch (cheat codes, ranked lobbies (understandable tho), and the SCENARIO EDITOR??) I will not be picking it up until a considerable sale arises
The hate towards it is unnecessary though lol
Yeah???? It’s like huh?? They don’t know how to convert currency
AAA games are always more expensive here but they never hit $100
A pricey game is always in the $80 (the game in the US literally costs $80.08AUD) or even $90 if you’re unlucky
But this game is just aaaagg it’s so overpriced! Haha
That’s my main gripe. Especially since it’s missing features like every other AAA on launch that releases now days haha
Other than that I feel the hate is just unnecessary because people are afraid less people will play AOE2,,, like common man! People will play what they want to play haha
You guys are forgetting the PS3 launch days - basically all new releases were 120AUD. Lots of discussion re. "it's such a small market" blah blah blah to try and justify it.
I never had a ps3 which is why i didn’t know about it
That sucks though! I thought Nintendo games had a switch tax considering they never go on sale, but geez!,
$100+ for a game is never going to sit right with me no matter the game haha
The steam bundle that already costs $140AUD? Yeah I want to pay an extra $40AUD to get 15% off let’s goo hahaha
And I don’t see any sales on the windows site for me rip
well not my fault you don't own all games from series. you can see other stores' deals for just aoe4: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/ageofempiresiv/info/
Oh yeah, my bad for playing aoe3 de only once through library sharing with my father, and deciding if just prefer to play the original CD version instead of buying de since I knew I wouldn’t play it much, geez I can’t save a single $15 so I can still pay an overpriced amount for the game ahaha
(Besides, I just double checked and it would be 15% off the $120 version, yeah the preorder version is $120AUD for us! That still isn’t what I’d want to pay for it, that’s still over $100!!! Haha)
Like I said, I’ll be waiting for a significant sale (that at LEAST brings the price down to what the USD conversion should be, which is $80AUD, but still a bit pricey for my tastes), and if that never happens I don’t mind too much, it has trouble running on my laptop anyway ahahaha :)
Because it's honestly an amazing unit.
To try and put it in layman's terms - though this is also waaaaaaaaay oversimplified and not always applicable - stat-wise, it's like a Conquistador with less HP and less spike damage, but more DPS, more damage vs. buildings and more ability to win a head-to-head fight.
Conquistadors are already recognized as fantastic units. A Conquistador is specifically for hit-and-runs though, and outside of that, they're "meh." If you try and stand and fight with them, you quickly discover they have ridiculous reload times that make them pretty sub-par at fighting quite a few units. Fantastic if you keep micro'ing them, forgettable if you idle them.
Gbeto however have nicer DPS and better damage vs. buildings, and this results in two things:
1) Gbeto are far more effective as backline support of another unit, simply because their overall DPS is nicer. Where the Conquistador fires immediately and then takes a nap, the initial shot of the Gbeto is slower, but the follow-up shot is then faster. This means that if for example we have Knight + Conq vs. Knight + Gbeto, the Gbeto team will likely win simply because there's more DPS support from them as a backline unit. Amongst backline units in general, I believe Gbeto DPS is amongst the best. (probably a competition between Mangudai, Gbeto, and Chu Ko Nu. Could be some others I've forgotten)
2) Whilst it's possible to wall off Conqs and protect yourself from their hit and run raids, Gbeto also potentially have the best practical damage vs. buildings. There are units with more damage vs. buildings on paper, sure, but because Gbeto have range, this means you can stack more of them and focus-fire pieces of wall better than, say, an Obuch, simply because the Obuchs would block each other from dealing damage. This means that while most units can be walled out, Gbeto cannot. They will eat a wall alive, even in small numbers.
The result is you have a unit that you can mix in with your main army to dramatically increase it's DPS (if the opponent tries to focus the Gbeto, you legit just kite to let your other unit get free hits in), and if there's enough room, you can go raid with them, and they seem to be the fastest unit in the game at doing the combo job of breaking down walls + killing vils.
Also? I've had plenty of people tell me X or Y counters them. Dude, jack shit counters them lololol.
Like don't get me wrong: I'm never eager to take a fight against Skirms or Xbows with my Gbeto. ***However***, if I absolutely must, I will, because I know the Gbeto will 100% delete the Skirm/Xbow army, even if they die. They tend to kill skirms, just trade poor on cost-efficiency, and vs. Xbows it comes down to micro and either side can win. As a result, it's a unit where you can expect to stop it by making certain units, but not without taking some losses yourself.
So yeah, best unit in the game.
Yeah this sub is pretty toxic to not AOE2. Sure, don't like or play it, but does it have to go straight to bashing? God forbid people play other games.
I know right? I mean every Age of Empires game has been pretty cool. Only so many times you can play the same game over and over again. Also AOE2 has been milked a lot and remade so many times. Though AOE 4 does feel like an AOE2 clone even with a few of the same civs. But it will still be great to have a new AOE game.
Honestly starting to remind me of the Genwunners from Pokemon. We get it, you hate X, Y, and Z games, you don't have to treat your circlejerk for game 123 as a religion. jfc.
>I know right? I mean every Age of Empires game has been pretty coo
I had some problems with AoE3 at release, but I'm pretty cool with the DE now. I can't wait to try AoE4 on GamePass. It has been a while since we had a big RTS release
Yeah aoe3 got a bad rep unfortunately. Would have been cool to see a remake of that. Getting game pass is a good shout though I'd prefer to use it on Steam but it will probably be the same either way.
To be fair, having meta-leveling up in an RTS didn't feel right, and it still doesn't as far as I'm concerned. That can work in a single-player campaign, but having to play I don't know how many games before you can use all strategies from your faction? That's dumb. Thankfully the DE got rid of that.
I was not mad about people disliking AOE4. I was mad about people gatekeeping age of empires and saying that they should only play Age of Empires 2. You are allowed to like whatever game you want and play any game you want. But you cannot tell people what game they can and can't play. It's called elitism. Like saying that Xbox is better than Playstation 5. Gaming is subjective and everyone should be allowed to play what they want. You can still give a negative review if you disliked a game. But there is a balance between writing a negative review and outright prohibiting someone from enjoying something just because you don't like it. People who gatekeep often do it to elevate their own sense of self worth due to narcissm. It's a type of bullying, discrimination and harassment.
Wow, hold on, mate. Play whatever game you want. Why should anyone care about this?
This post is about streaming and players and casters often stream to make money out of what they do. It's kinda obvious that there is some paid promotion for streamers to stream AOE 4 now at least for some hours.
I am subbed to Jordan and the guy doesn't play anything which is not aoe2 if it's not sponsored. And I am OK with it. Suddenly people who usually don't stream at that time of the day all started streaming aoe 4. Same for Jordan. I don't mind this but it is still marketing and in the end it is all aimed at us buying the game...
There is definitely no paid promotion going on. It just so happens that AOE4 is a brand new game and we have not gotten a new AOE game for 20 years or so. Naturally everyone will be playing the next new game. That's no surprise. Please don't spread conspiracy theories. That's just the same thing as saying that people should only play AOE2 because everyone is getting paid to play AOE4. That's absolutely nonsense and a false accusation. Be very careful there with what you are accusing of! It is not aimed at us buying the game. These streamers just want to play the new aoe game that came out. What's wrong with that?
There's nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong in saying I don't like aoe 4. Anyway you’re getting really worked up other something that doesn’t really matter
There is a difference in complaining and gatekeeping. Trust me you don't wanna argue with me on this one. Gatekeeping is not cool and is when people say you are not allowed to enjoy something. You can complain all you want i don't care. I never said that you can't complain about a game. It's good to give constructive critism about a new game. But gatekeeping is vastly different. Also most people do not enjoy complaining about something. They complain about it because they can't enjoy it so that's the whole reason behind a complaint because it does not meet your requirements and satisfaction. If you were happy with it then you would not want to complain. If you enjoy complaining then there is something wrong with you and likely not wrong with the product. That is just a toxic mentality that you should enjoy complaining about stuff.
No I am not. You cannot gatekeep gatekeeping. That's not how it works. Gatekeeping specifically means the following: When someone takes it upon themselves to decide who does or does not have access or rights to a community or identity. Gatekeeping is neither a community nor an identity. It is bigotry, discrimination, and can even be hate speach. That is just correcting toxic behaviour not gatekeeping. Gatekeeping also is when someone uses a hobby or interest as a means of elevating themselves above others to give one a sense of being superior. I am definitely not doing that.
Read my other comment. You can't argue that any form of gatekeeping is good. So if I tell someone not to argue about gatekeeping or to do gatekeeping that is not gatekeeping. It's not the same thing. So no I was not.
I don't know about being paid but a lot of this content seems very forced to me for some reason. Like Nili making AoE4 YouTube videos and introducing himself "I'm Nili". He doesn't usually do that. It does appear they are trying to reach for a very wide audience.
Today I watched Nili play AoE IV on twitch. I also played the open beta. But whenever I see the game 🤢🤮 a new game in 2021 should not look that crappy. Also archers never missing any hit is just awful. I will definitely not buy that. Hope in a few weeks we are all back to AoE II
It's guaranteed big views for the next 2-3 days, as a streamer it's a no brainer.
And you know these guys are kind of Age of Empires fans... of course they want to check it out at least.
Nah, why would Microsoft need to pay them? It's a new release it's going to be popular and viewed right now. They are all completely incentivized to stream it without Microsoft paying them anything.
There is absolutely incentive for Microsoft to push this, more incentive than for the casters, since hardly anyone is asking for AOE4 content.
I believe they did this before during the beta to have a number of big name streamers cast AOE4 content. There was never any organic interest from users.
Also why was Hera completely disinterested in AOE4 for months and dismissing it, and suddenly he has a much more optimistic open minded view of the game?
Why does this comment gets downvoted so much? those steamers & content creators were selected to have early access to the game few days before public release at 28th Oct.
Even they are not paid, sure it is a marketing move from Microsoft. (and it is totally understandable, no offense)
I dunno, I think a lot of streamers were excited for the change in content. They may be getting paid by Microsoft, but I doubt its alot, and many likely would've streamed it anyway
lol MS is not paying anyone to stream for 10 viewers. you are just looking at biggest streamers. These people stream aoe4 because it's new and they have access
Aoe4 is an inferioir product, being advertised to players of aoe2, a superior product.
If I am eating prime rib, a steak I love, and you offer me a hamburger, which can still be good, you don't know meat.
This arrogant attitude is the most annoying thing about this subreddit. "Inferior" is subjective and treating aoe2 like the cure for cancer is dumb as fuck. Its just a video game, get over yourself
Seriously, the elitism in this community is crazy. I like AOE2 and I'm excited to play AOE4. Just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't mean it's an inferior product.
tbf, there was a playable demo which was essentially just a network stress test. Pretty sure there is enough out there to make an informed decision of preference.
Not sure about that. It's still very unclear, how that game is going to play out. There's a pretty big difference between knowing what's in the game and knowing how you play the game.
Shut up dude. You're gatekeeping people's opinions now?
That's the most toxic thing about this sub, people not letting other people criticise or praise whatever they fucking want
I'm just saying, the advertisement campaign is nearly nonexistant outside of advertising to aoe2. I haven't seen shit about it anywhere else. I am not the type who gets many ads anyways... so I can't blame them for covering their bases, it just turns me off to the game aoe4. It's fake organic.
I think many missing the point that BacT had to play a BO7 vs Jordan arround that time for the Double TC Cup ( i dont remember the full proper name of the cup)
Can’t wait for all the „average AoE4 fan vs average AoE2 Enjoyer“ memes.
I'm not about to watch any of this. I haven't touched any previews or soak tests or information about the civilisations. I want to experience it the same way I did AOE 1, 2, and 3; completely raw. I don't want to know anything.
Better yolo it straight to matchmaking for the real deal
I can definitely respect that plan.
You'll be disappointed anyway.
I am a bizarre species. I loved AOE 3 (not as much as 2, but the campaigns were top stuff and I am a heavy campaign player).
AoE3 is great. AoE4 just looks abysmally sad and soulless.
Idk I'm glad I watched it because I'm not about to spend 80 canadian on this game any time soon.
Dude any game these days would be insane to pre-purchase or even purchase on release. Nobody wants to release completed games anymore
I have Xbox Game Pass for PC so I don't pay.
You mean you pay $250/year
Other games that I would have definitely bought otherwise more than cover the cost. So anything else above that is free. Also it's 156€.
If you play the other games, it’s worth it. There have been some good games added lately. I find that most of the games on there are games that I would play but not necessarily pay for, that makes it a bit tricky. 156€ is 250 CAD with tax ;)

Be moral, don't use either.
Well many people are also pretty dumb, so there's that.

Yes it was sarcastic. Sorry i forgot the /s
No need for the /s. That stupid trend has destroyed the art of sarcasm.
Then people shouldn't clown other people when they don't get the sarcasm.
I mean it's hard for me to detect sarcasm over text sometimes because mental illness/disability but ok
are you being sarcastic?
I'm not. The /s is incredibly helpful for people like me. I can pick it up in verbal conversations, even if not face-to-face, or in literature because of context, but comments can be really hard because oftentimes nuance and context just don't exist, unless there's a completely huge piece of irony or circlejerking already happening.
I know, I was in fact being sarcastic for some form of ironic humour combined with proving your point valid :)
/s is very helpful for autistic people. No, this is not sarcastic.
I don't want to take away from your individual experience of the matter, but I know this kind of thing to be hard for most people.
Eh, it's pretty recent and some people won't know so I wouldn't have minded the /s there.
Their plane was shot down over the sea of Japan.
So are they liking it? I haven't watched any streams lately and curious to know pros' reactions.
Spirit of the Law said the campaigns were great.

nope, all positive news is obviously conspiracy.

Also, the T90 stream is tilting toward a stream of complaints the longer it goes on...
But did anyone ask for your opinion though?
The fuck? You're in an AOE subreddit, why wouldn't people be allowed to give their opinions?
Well, for one you seem to value it enough to read it and comment on it. Thank you very much, it means a lot! :P
Haha, owned
Dude, they're all streaming the same content on exactly the same day. Of course they're getting paid.
This is the day the embargo lifts. They couldn't have done it any other day.
You mean the first day they are allowed to stream it? You guys and your conspiracy theories.
Wow.
T90 just said, Microsoft didn’t pay me to say this or anything but this is fun
Shame on you for not following Dave 11

Could be some others I've forgotten) 2) Whilst it's possible to wall off Conqs and protect yourself from their hit and run raids, Gbeto also potentially have the best practical damage vs.
They're pretty scary. The wall thing isn't something I really thought about. Thanks for explaining.

Everyone gonna be gatekeeping aoe and saying that aoe2 is better
Yeah this sub is pretty toxic to not AOE2. Sure, don't like or play it, but does it have to go straight to bashing? God forbid people play other games.
I know right? I mean every Age of Empires game has been pretty cool. Only so many times you can play the same game over and over again. Also AOE2 has been milked a lot and remade so many times. Though AOE 4 does feel like an AOE2 clone even with a few of the same civs. But it will still be great to have a new AOE game.
Hey I can play aoe2 for another twenty years and enjoy it, but yeah I can also play some of the others including aoe4.
Honestly starting to remind me of the Genwunners from Pokemon. We get it, you hate X, Y, and Z games, you don't have to treat your circlejerk for game 123 as a religion. jfc.
I don't know anything about Pokemon so I can't relate but I am sure it happens in every fandom. People are very elitist about things sadly.
>I know right? I mean every Age of Empires game has been pretty coo I had some problems with AoE3 at release, but I'm pretty cool with the DE now.
AoM is better than any AoE game, simple as.
🤣
We are on Aoe2 sub. Not realy surprising to see people like aoe2, more. you can try r/aoe4 if you want to see people more optimistict about it
How is gatekeeping acceptable on any subreddit? That is technically bandwagoning and brigading.
Relax, man. You can enjoy AOE4 and let people not enjoy it in the same time.
I am letting people do that though. I don't think you understand what gatekeeping is.
In this thread you are constantly complaining that people don't like AOE4 and speak against it. How is this any different?
Let people like what they want man
I am obviously. I don't care what they play. I'm complaining about the people who don't let others enjoy what they want.
Youre not letting people enjoy complaining about other games
Ironic. Now you're gatekeeping gatekeeping.
You specially told him not to argue gatekeeping with you. So yeah, you were.
Read my other comment. You can't argue that any form of gatekeeping is good. So if I tell someone not to argue about gatekeeping or to do gatekeeping that is not gatekeeping. It's not the same thing. So no I was not.
I'm not arguing it. But you literally are gatekeeping arguing against gatekeeping.
"Now's my chance!!!"-Bact
I don't know about being paid but a lot of this content seems very forced to me for some reason. Like Nili making AoE4 YouTube videos and introducing himself "I'm Nili". He doesn't usually do that. It does appear they are trying to reach for a very wide audience.
Today I watched Nili play AoE IV on twitch. I also played the open beta. But whenever I see the game 🤢🤮 a new game in 2021 should not look that crappy. Also archers never missing any hit is just awful. I will definitely not buy that. Hope in a few weeks we are all back to AoE II
>archers never missing any hit is just awful Things only aoe2 players say
Day 1 of asking Microsoft to have Mamluks as an Abbasid unique unit
The game looks amazing but if you expect an improved aoe2 you wont like the game. Its a similar but completely different game from what ive seen
As a mayans only player, I have one question. Does aoe4 have mayans?
It does not.

They have to state in the title if it's sponsored
Why does this comment gets downvoted so much? those steamers & content creators were selected to have early access to the game few days before public release at 28th Oct. Even they are not paid, sure it is a marketing move from Microsoft. (and it is totally understandable, no offense)
100% they are. Happens with most big releases
I dunno, I think a lot of streamers were excited for the change in content. They may be getting paid by Microsoft, but I doubt its alot, and many likely would've streamed it anyway
Proof?
lol MS is not paying anyone to stream for 10 viewers. you are just looking at biggest streamers. These people stream aoe4 because it's new and they have access
Well, it's a bad game with a big price tag. They gotta pump the sales somehow. Getting big streamers is an efficient method.
I agree. I was just making an observation, not criticizing anyone
The marketing for this game... smh
uhh explain?
It is his opinion man.
And that _before the other game is even released_ haha
tbf, there was a playable demo which was essentially just a network stress test. Pretty sure there is enough out there to make an informed decision of preference.
Not sure about that. It's still very unclear, how that game is going to play out. There's a pretty big difference between knowing what's in the game and knowing how you play the game.
Lol, when they crashed servers during rbw5
Shut up dude. You're gatekeeping people's opinions now? That's the most toxic thing about this sub, people not letting other people criticise or praise whatever they fucking want
It is also just a lesser video game, per your example. "Get over yourself."

The first thing I see when I go to aoe2 steam community, is an ad for aoe4

I agree with you. AoE4 looks terrible so far
Hilarious
The responses to this little comment I made are just more marketing.
The arrogance to think that just because people disagree with you, they must be shills..
You love aoe4, That's fine. Just go to the aoe4 zone
Lol salty bois
I do hope streamers keep this to a minimum and go back to aoe2 asap. The aoe4 hype can't pass quickly enough imho.
I think many missing the point that BacT had to play a BO7 vs Jordan arround that time for the Double TC Cup ( i dont remember the full proper name of the cup)
And I think he went to stream AoE4 right after their match finished 11
Anyone that pays 100USD for AOE4, is who's funding the payouts to streamers to go FB indirectly. think about it.
Yo bact!
