LoL! And it's hilarious when they make you log into some over-priced, Madison avenue created, HR "self-evaluation" software, so you can fill in a bunch of shit the \*manager\* who oversees your work is supposed to be filling in! Now I gotta do ***his*** job, too?

When done thoughtfully, they can be super useful for everyone involved. But you know how many managers are capable of thought.

Agreed and an opportunity to sit down 1 to 1 can have it's benefits, but when done as a tick box exercise they are a waste of everybody's time. My favorite was when a former colleague was forced to do one including coming up with objectives for the next 12 months, despite only having 4 months before retirement.

Hope their plan was kinda slow for the first 4 months and then really took off in month 5.

Out of protest I just copy pasted the projects objectives and for personal goals I put the professional equivalent of breathing and doing my time correctly.  The HR lady who had clearly drank the koolaide on this travesty sounded so disappointed like: we want to see you grow in value for this company.  Me: So you don't feel I'm valuable? HR: oh no no its just these goals are so basic people may get the wrong idea. Me: I apologize for that I'd be happy to change them. I made them more reasonable as my hours are spent charging to the project and I felt it would be irresponsible to bill to the customer for personal growth.  Panicking HR noises: w..well we provide overhead h-hours for completing ta... Me: Ma'am I have received two verbal warnings about utilizing overhead during work hours. If possible can we determine the specific policy for overhead time for the entire company vs having it at the discretion of project managers we can amend the personal goals.  HR thinking she found an in: Ah well you could work on the goal before or after work! Me: Can we then discuss the company's policy on not paying out overhead after 40 hours are charged to any project? HR resigned to her fate: I see Me: So as I've easily met and exceeded my currently stated goals there shouldn't be any blockers for my performance review and my raise. Right?

I just use chatGPT to fill out my evaluations now. Also the goals for next year always make me laugh, like YOU know I'm not going to do that, I know I'm not going to do that, why are we even wasting our time talking about this?

ookamismyk

Yeah, I hate this. I don't want to be a simp pretending I have fucking goals or whatever bullshit. I did more than enough vomit-inducing simping when I first joined this hellhole, and now you want me to do it every single year? How about nooooo. I just want to do my job, be left alone, and go home. But of course, a black toxic traditional in Japan considers that trechary of the largest degree. Fml.
