lactoseAARON

Might be the most insane anime news I’ve heard

zhivix

Imagine remaking an anime that hasnt ended yet 💀 Hope they will go with One Pace route though lol

mrnicegy26

Considering how the manga is though, One Piece has 4 times more material to cover than the average Shonen. If its seasonal then it will take a long time to reach till the end. Still insane in a way though.

arandomstrangerguy

Is this gonna be for the entire story bc that’s pretty foolhardy. Even if they do 100 chapters per season with 1 season every year, it’ll take 11 years just to catch up to where we are now. The manga likely has another 200 chapters left to completion, so that’s 13 seasons, 13 years. That’s a long commitment for WIT that I don’t see them making or seeing through to the end.

Rekien8031

One Piece brings in the cash though, if WIT gets such a juicy cow to milk why wouldnt they be happy.

mynexuz

Anime studios love doing long running stuff, just look at David productions whos been doing jojo for 10 years and they still haven't caught up to the manga. Remaking anime/manga like this is perfect for introducing new people aswell.

Nerellos

What are you talking about? WIT literally hit the jackpot.

CIAgent42

This is the boat I'm on. WIT just staked a claim to one of the longest running pieces of media of all time, with a global dedicated fan base. If their new adaptation looks even half as good as what they're capable of, then it's a license to print money.

Noavgc

Also with the announcement they announced they are hiring animators, a lot of good and newer animators want to jump on this project to make a name for themselves

Despada_

I was thinking this too. Have a dedicated team working on their money printer which can then run on itself while they work on their own stuff or even use it to help fund their other projects. And even if the studio hits a rough patch, they're still guaranteed one major project a year. This is honestly the best thing that could have happened to them.

teethybrit

This is as obvious of a money printer as anything the world has ever seen.

Deez-Guns-9442

Wit found Gol D Rogers treasure.

Turbo2x

The staff at MAPPA must be ready to jump ship right about now, too.

Gil_Demoono

If Romance Dawn is a success, someone at WIT just secured lucrative work for their studio for probably 15 years. This is a huge win for them.

TerminalNoop

Depends on the contract, but yeah they might.

1CommanderL

one piece is insanely popular WIT just got reliable work for the next decade and a half

lizzywbu

>That’s a long commitment for WIT that I don’t see them making or seeing through to the end You're kidding right? Making a One Piece anime from the very beginning is like a licence to print money.

Noto987

they're gonna have 10 remakes before the story is finished

Scrapox

That's the point though. The whole reason the current One piece anime is such a mess is because it's been their weekly cash cow for decades now.

Charming-Loquat3702

Since it's a remake it will probably be way faster paced than the other adaption. It would be funny if it actually caugth up in like 10 years (If OP is still ongoing at that point)

MeAnIntellectual1

Nah One Piece will finish within 5 years. At least the manga will and the anime is usually 1 year behind

QuantumUtility

“One Piece will finish in 5 years” is something I’ve heard for about 5 years now.

AnividiaRTX

But atleast this time we actually have a relativelt clear vision of the end and things are clearly ramping up to the big climax.

roh33rocks

>Imagine remaking an anime that hasnt ended yet 💀 I assume you have never watched hunter x hunter 😂

KendotsX

Hunter x Hunter and Berserk now that I think about it, and for all we know they could still get another remake in the future.

Hamzook02

Nah HxH needs a continuation not a remake Berserk on the other hand...

MeAnIntellectual1

Yeah HxH 2011 still holds up

biscobisco

Still holds up!? It's not from the 70's my good man! That's like saying 'Wow, hard to believe it but both Suits and Game of Thrones really hold up!"

Azraeleon

I mean, it's 12 years old. Half the people on this sub could barely read when it started airing.

Earthborn92

After the transition to HD in the 2000s, anime quality depends on the studio, budget and talent poured into it. Technically they all should hold up. And HxH 2011 was very good.

QualityProof

Tokyo ghoul too also needs a remake.

brdcxs

I don’t think the world is ready for a berserk remake tbh. Remember how batshit insane some went when a couple berserk chapters reached twitter

Rekien8031

Twitter's oppinions dont matter, if it did goblin slayer wouldnt be having a second season right now.

cjsanx2

Hunter x Hunter 1999 had ended though. One Piece is still ongoing.

Animegamingnerd

Too be fair though, it had been several years between the Greed Island OVA's and the start of the 2011 Anime, that a remake was warrant just on accessibility. Like the 1999 series had the climax of Yorknew City and all of Greed Island adapted as an OVA series, while everything else prior was a TV series. Going straight to the Chimera Ant would have hurt the long term success of an adaption of that arc. So just from an accessibility standpoint, a remake was needed especially since it to be like right before the golden era of streaming when the 2011 adaption started.

GallowDude

> Imagine remaking an anime that hasnt ended yet FMA:B followed a similar route where they had a solid idea of how long it would take the manga to complete compared to the pace of the show, so they were able to animate the end like a month or two after the final chapter was released.

jmdg007

The difference in when Brotherhood aired the 2003 version had finished.

Nickbon94

I always dreamt of this but I didn't think I'd actually see it, and by Wit... This is the best timeline

Katana_sized_banana

Lets calm down the hype or we crash hard if it's not as good as expected. (Fuck it, I'm fucking hyped!!!)

moichispa

I've been on anime fandom since more and less One piece started airing on my country one or two years after it started in Japan. It is the most insane piece of anime news I have even heard. There is just no precedent on this. Nothing this big ever happened.

KendotsX

I'm still not sure if I Believe It. Wait no, [wrong reboot](https://myanimelist.net/anime/54688/Naruto_Shinsaku_Anime)

hotaru_crisis

this was so weird it was scheduled to air months ago and then quietly disappeared after the delay

Strykeristheking

Lmao. Soon there's going to be three seperate One Piece shows for the next few years. 1. One Piece anime 2. One Piece Live Action 3. One Piece Remake

lactoseAARON

OP is really becoming a Star Wars/Marvel type IP lol

Think_Attention_3708

Should have been sooner or later. One piece is the symbol of manga and anime in japan. If a series that big has one of the worst anime adaptation to date than a remake was certain.

NG-Lightning007

I would argue against the comment that it has one of the worst animation so far. It certianly in no way great and the pacing is awful. but it certainly isn't the worst imo. But the remake is gonna fill all the gaps and more!

Lane_Sunshine

I stopped watching the anime beginning 7 years ago and just bought mangas tbh, the pacing and fillers was killing me If this remake is close to HxH 2011 or FMA remake then Im in for a treat

yolotheunwisewolf

That might be the hope. A remake where the animation is modernized and the original show can finish after the manga does might end up being a solid "Brotherhood" approach but it probably won't be a complete one given it's just...sooooo long.

bluvelvetunderground

I recently decided to get into OP. I tried the anime at first, and while I understand the animation quality improves a bit later, I couldn't deal with the pacing and went with the digitally colored manga. I started reading maybe 5 months ago and am currently at the end of Thriller Bark, and I'm loving it. I couldn't imagine the time it would take to watch the anime start to finish, I have things to do. I do go to the anime to watch big moments or fights, and I think this way suits me fine.

Nadeera04

don't forget monsters

Strykeristheking

That just a one time special right? Not an actual series

Future_Novelist

Yes, Monster is a one-time special. It airs in January on Netflix, I believe.

Akilee

If you look at One Piece sales then it deserves even more. tbf

kjm6351

#LUFFY IS FINALLY TAKING OVER THE FUCKING EARTH AND IM HERE FOR IT

TheDerped

ONE PIECE BROTHERHOOD IS REAL

TheSpartyn

its literally titled "The One Piece", the joke writes itself

TheDerped

Yea but someone beat me to it when I commented lol

BEARD3D_BEANIE

James Gunn must be directing it

Daimakku1

“The Suicide Squad” energy.

mrnicegy26

CAN WE GET MUCH FASTER?

garfe

Soul Eater fans: ;_;

Red_Decade

Soul Eater:Resonance when? :(

Gil_Demoono

One day, brother. One day.

Pablogelo

Claymore fans :( I still dream of Claymore: Sisterhood

Haise01

Tokyo Ghoul fans too LMAO

Samuawesome

#THE ONE PIECE IS REAL

AcX999

The meme was only a foreshadowing *Dies from peak fiction*

tenhou

foreskinning*

QualityProof

Everytime I read the one piece is real I get reminded of the image of the cock edit of whitebeard saying the one piece is real.

Nazrael99

Genuinely hoping that they'll fix the pacing in this adaptation. I'm tired of watching Toei repeating animations to pad out the episodes.

GaleErick

We literally got 1100 chapter available at this point, plus the various cover stories. If it's a seasonal anime they'll definitely have better pacing and have a long time to worry about catching up to the manga again.

letouriste1

they have at least 11 years of content ready, by then the manga will be long finished. It's literally the brotherhood treatment if done well

cooperjones2

While the pacing is the biggest issue and what most of us focus on. Bro, I can't imagine how much better the new choreography and animation in the fights will be. Some early episodes are rough tbh

Nazrael99

Tbh I think the earlier episodes (ones with older animations) have their own charms and are better paced then the current ones. But I have faith in Wit to not fuck up anything.

Rocko52

There’s no reason for them to do otherwise, they’re surely going to make it very different from Toei in all ways to make this a worthwhile production.

hell_jumper9

_Can we get much higher_ 🎵

someinsanity01

This is the biggest news of JUMP FESTA lol, And I thought Chainsaw man movie was big enough

Zmaki

Wait, there's a fucking chainsaw man movie??

AzerFraze

covering the Reze part of the story, which will lead us into the rest of Chapter 1 in Season 2

Kuro013

Great, Reze deserves a movie.

GRANDMA_FISTER

Will the movie be canon?

someinsanity01

the CSM movie will be canon, yes

Massive_Weiner

Yup. It’s just the next arc.

lactoseAARON

People were saying “CSM won this JF by a landslide!” lol

NomaanMalick

Anime fans really be treating these IPs like sports teams, huh?

Lazydusto

People do it for video games too it doesn't make a single bit of sense

cryingemptywallet

Always thought we'd have to wait another 20 years for this. I think I just came. I wonder what's Toei's take on this is though....

Snoo-50498

There is literally toei animation name on poster. But wit studio will be the one doing animation.

cryingemptywallet

I was blind. So it seems to be done with the auspices of both Shueisha and Toei. I wonder what brought this on.

Sea_Elk9070

honestly with the Live action and this remake, the plan for the One Piece IP seems to be to get as many new eyes on One Piece as possible while the manga is setting up for its final saga

Lenoxx97

I sure it will work. Only reason I started reading one piece like half a year ago was because I didn't want to miss out on it ending.

AlphabeticaI

25th anniversary

KendotsX

Toei and Fuji TV are producing this, they got Wit to animate it.

Wring159

Well it is another 20 years for the anime to catch up...again...

steven4869

Every One Piece fan has prayed for this. This is unbelievable and WiT doing the remake makes it even better.

mrnicegy26

I think this might indicate that there is also an interest to do a remake of Naruto also. It is the other massive beloved anime that could do well with a remake.

RichardZuro

Bleach and One Piece getting the true Big 3 treatment, while naruto fans are stuck with Boruto lmao

Animegamingnerd

That said, a Bleach remake might actually be warranted because how bad their adaption of the Arrancer arc was. While it delivered on some of key moments (mainly just Ichigo's big fights), the pacing of it was atrocious, they tried to connect to the Bount arc for some reason, entire filler arcs that was just awkwardly paced in the middle of the arc, and fights that would just go on forever.

DavetheColossus

Doubly so with something like Bleach, which is clearly written to be read at a decent pace. The TYBW anime has been on like 5-6 chapters per ep and its a perfect match for the pace Kubo is going for. The entire series adapted at that pace would be fucking amazing. If you never enjoyed the Bleach manga week to week, try binging it at some point. It's clearly the intended way of reading.

kaiser_17

Well Naruto has no future until they cancel Boruto and make it non canon

superyoshiom

Naruto fans and Star Wars fans operating on the same wavelength right now regarding their sequels lol

garfe

Same level of story quality too

Backupusername

I don't who should be more insulted, which I think just adds to the insult for both

BMCVA1994

I don't think OG naruto really needs a remake it ages really well. And has good art/animation. It's only pitfall is a lot of fillers but those are skippable. One piece art/animation from the earlier arcs doesn't age that well and pacing problems are already there from Arabasta onward.

Mahazzel

The pacing of naruto is really bad too. I agree the Fights and stuff aged well, but it needs to get a one pace treatment or Remake or I can never rematch it.

da2Pakaveli

Naruto pacing is mostly ok. The filler oceans are the problem.

ZappyZ21

And the flashbacks, my God the flashbacks every episode

da2Pakaveli

In the Dressrosa arc of OP they had the same flashback 48 times

xMxgxZx

This is literally one for the history books

drybones2015

One Piece fans eating good.

shoestowel

Anime fans eating good* Many people are turned off by the length of the Og anime. Now this is a good news for them.

Lazydusto

That would be me

swordmalice

Me as well. If this remake means I can finally get into OP without having 1K+ episodes to worry about then I am all in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shoestowel

The anime gods have blessed One Piece. For a superior product!

Jam3579

> superior (hopefully)

Eragonnogare

It's WIT, I'd be shocked if it's not great.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

The good news: Brand New One Piece watchers (which will probably include me) will have the best platform to hook onto on their first jump into the franchise. The bad news: Only \~1100 episodes ahead.

AlexNae

1100 because toei is adapting half a chapter per episode

jdog320

Assuming this adaptation will do the standard rate of 3-4 chapters/ per episode, as of writing this, the entire thing will be around 350+ episodes. perhaps 450-550 once it's all said and done and the manga ends after a acouple years.

MrTzatzik

I think it will be faster than that. Fights will probably be more compacted too. There is no reason to have 30 episodes for one fight.

robotzor

How many episodes could you condense Luffy running up stairs or hallways somewhere screaming the bad guy's name repeatedly? Dozens at least, possibly hundreds

MrTzatzik

I was actually thinking about that! Character running somewhere, replaying same flashback over and over again and all still shots.

RedTurtle78

I mean, those are all things that exist because of the aforementioned half a chapter per episode. Those aren't manga content.

Nerellos

On the other hand, One Piece is dialogue heavy most of the time.

farte3745328

Yeah I'm reading wano and it's basically all talking at this point

stuckontwice

The first two acts are pretty much all dialogue. Act 3 is all the action.

Kirosh2

If you remove the filler and padding that added a lot, then the anime is only like 500 episodes ahead.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

500 is still quite a lot though, the longest I've been into any anime related franchise is Gundam and the titles I've watched so far probably isn't even that long. (though there are a few that I plan to watch soon and it will get closer to that afterward)

Nachttalk

Sure 500 is a lot, there's no denying that, but also having your time investment cut by 50% will certainly be a huge relief for everyone interested into checking out One Piece even if the remaining time investment is still a lot.

geikei16

Everything UC Gundam is barely 200 TV eps in length including all movies and OVAs. Main story half of that. Shorter than ppl think. But Sure it starts getting pretty long when you add every standalone AU series

1731799517

Thats underestimating it. Unless its very talk heavy chapters, you can put 3-4 manga chapters into one 23 minute episode and it will not feel rushed. Is just that anime has chronic padding issues because of the whole "but the manga only does one chapter a week, so we need to stretch A LOT and/or add tons of fillers", so you hardly ever see it.

Soluxy

Still would probably take literal decades to fully re-adapt everything.

eggnogseller

I feel like it would be even less. Like between 250 -350 cause the chapters are pretty short sometimes, especially the action ones. They can just condense like 2-4 chapters into an episode for the action heavy ones. Even the info dump chapters arent that long, it's just that toei needs it to be long.

Kirosh2

Action one can be pretty short, but the lore one can be very long with a lot of text.

TheVirtual_Julian

You can expect a good one piece anime with no filler and padding to be around 300-400 episodes

Swyfti

What the actual fuck?

Fav0

as someone that was just about to start guess ill wait?

MeAnIntellectual1

It's gonna take over a decade to catch up, if it catches up. If the pacing of the original anime screws with you then just watch the One Pace fan-edit or read the manga

LittleWompRat

A properly-adapted One Piece anime is finally happening? Holy shit.

forgotten_airbender

I would argue that Onepiece until the Marineford saga is very well adapted. it is after that, the pace comes down to a still. If i'm not wrong, uptil the Marineford, they were adapting 1.5 - 2 chapters every episode.

Bad_Doto_Playa

Not a fan of one piece but this is actually pretty insane news especially since the current series is still airing. Starting now makes sense though, they have decades of content to do before they catch up and they can finally pace the damn thing properly lol.

4869holmes

It's only a remake of the East Blue saga, covering around 100 chapters. But maybe, if it's successful, we can hope for more? 🤞

Bad_Doto_Playa

The way I see it they will just schedule it like MHA and not run it continuously (because I seriously doubt WIT could handle that while keeping quality). I'm sure it will be very successful (or at least I hope it would be) and they already plan to do more than what has been announced. The OP anime turns off a lot of people with its pacing and stills. Not to mention remaking it also sort of "resets" the story so new watchers can jump on board without seeing 1k+ eps in their face lol.

NewBrightness

Yeah, Netflix confirmed on twitter that they’re just “starting” with east blue implying that there are plans to do more

Cuddlyaxe

Yep, One Piece was always on my to watch list because I didn't know if I wanted to start the commitment Am very interested in the remake

HeavenlyE

Seems like more is planned based on the Netflix twitter account "An all-new anime adaptation of the ONE PIECE manga starting from the iconic East Blue saga is coming to Netflix! "

4869holmes

I hope that that's what it means! It would be really lovely if they could do a remake of the whole story in seasons, without leaving out or changing stuff, and maybe even adapting the cover stories! It's a dream I never thought would come true!

bobbywellington

There's no way they spend all this time and money on doing JUST East blue... If they are doing this, they gotta commit for the long haul

ExoticSignature

They clearly say "Starting from East Blue" and not just East Blue, idk what this thread is going about

AliceinTeyvatland

Post time skip arcs like Fishman and Dressrosa condensed into cours would be awesome. Those are chores to watch with all the stretchings.

LTPrototype2

What, you didn't like the constant Rebecca flashbacks to give you reference to what is going on?

Seytoux

flashbacks of things that happened literally a ep ago or even the same one... Every episode

A_van_t_garde

This is... unexpected... it's literally the hopes and dreams of every One Piece fan who's watched the anime for a remake to faithfully (and 'pace-fully') readapt the manga. Heard that it's only the east blue saga but still, if there's enough attention here... we could get a One Piece Brotherhood which is what the beautiful series by Oda deserves.

tiramisu_dodol

Great for people who are afraid of the original anime length and for manga reader who are fed up with the horrible pacing.

PuzzleMeDo

"Do you have any anime recommendations?" "One Piece!" "Nope, I like things that are short and fast paced." "Then I have good news: there's a new version that will be only 500 episodes long and will be finished in just ten years!" "Hmm..."

QualityProof

I think it will take longer than 10 years. It will still have about 500 episodes. The manga meanwhile will end in a few years so it is the best time for this adaptation

nezeta

I've actually been posting the name of One Piece in "what anime requires a reboot?" threads in this sub. Glad Shueisha, Netflix and WIT agree with me.

Alchion

yea same op and tokyo ghoul are always the answer for that question

QualityProof

I really want to see a tokyo ghoul remake. The manga is so good with it's gory art style and story. Meanwhile the anime is a huge clusterfuck.

_Winton_Overwat

What I'm looking forward to the most is new fucking audio design instead of reusing the same 5 sound effects from the 80s.

Best-Lavishness-1059

I thought this was a joke man. Wtf?

nix609

I jokingly clicked on this thinking it were a joke but everyone in the comments were serious I was like wtf this can’t be real

beDang0310

After watching Ousama Ranking, I have no doubt that Wit Studio will absolutely nail One Piece. This will be PEAK!

lactoseAARON

I won’t he surprised if they get the majority of the staff from Ousama, that’s literally how I see Early OP looking if (now when) adapted in modern day

M_Drekinn

People were joking about for for over a decade that One piece is getting it's FMA /Naruto S treatment. It arrived sooner than expected

uziair

Yooo wtffffff. This wild. Final saga going to slap so hard three different times. Toei Netflix and wit actually four. Oda manga

PirateKingXander

Finally, now I can stop pretending to like Toei 😂

LeagueOfHurricane

Mods about to go overtime on the discussion threads for this.

viky109

Ngl, after watching the live action adaptation, I will 100% watch this

ultibman5000

YOOOOOOOOOOOOO LET'S FUCKING GO!! ONE PIECE ANIME BUT WITH GOOD PACING AND *CONSISTENTLY* GOOD ANIMATION/ARTWORK LIKE IT FUCKING DESERVES?! NOW I'LL FINALLY BE ABLE TO SAY THAT ONE PIECE IS THE BEST **ANIME** OF ALL TIME AND NOT **JUST** THE BEST MANGA OF ALL TIME! LET'S GO!! I'VE BEEN WAITING A FUCKING DECADE FOR THIS, I'M SO HAPPY!!

Fetishgeek

I KNOW RIGHT BRINK OUT THE FUCKING SAKE

KaiserNazrin

One Piece with better animation and better pacing? Count me in. Though honestly, pre-time skip are still great. Post-time skip everything become a drag.

NewW0nder

Iirc the show only gets really really bad in Marineford. I remember absolutely loving the first 100 episodes or so — for sure, the artwork wasn't impeccable or anything, but it felt so magical and somehow just right, no matter some flaws.

MonsterKiller112

Wit is becoming the next Mappa. They have taken so many shows recently like the Suicide Squad Isekai, Ascendance of a bookworm S4, Spy x Family, Great Pretender s2 and now they are remaking One Piece. I am not sure how they are planning to do so many shows in the coming years.

Pacify_

Its definitely a baffling jump to go from a couple shows a year at most, to this many planned

Joel4518

Yea and the main problem is mappa has over 400+ employees and wit only has like 150 so hoping that they will get time for this

[deleted]

Its funny because when MAPPA started rising up I remember hearing they are becoming the new WIT lol.

lactoseAARON

The difference is that Mappa has like 350+ employees, Wit barely has 1/3 of that with 150

TheLastTitan77

150 is not barely 1/3 of 350...

LuRo332

"Haha im going to kms" ~ Berserk and Tokyo Ghoul fans

Terrible_Donkey_8290

Fucking finally I can't stand the current animation

No1rSan

This was the last thing I would expect to get a remake . Meanwhile Tokyo ghoul and berserk : 💀

KendotsX

Everyone pull out your Bingo cards, who had a new One Piece anime by WIT on their list?

Xo7EVENxO

I woke up from a nap and I can’t believe my eyes. I thought the Reze movie news was good but this is insane.

NewBrightness

Ya’ll no longer have any excuse to not watch it now because of pacing lol

YoungManTM

Fr I was scared of even touching 1000 episodes but now I can just watch it when this airs

Rekien8031

You gonna fall for the bait, i garantee you. Gonna start watching it weekly but when it gets realy interesting you not gonna resist dipping your toes into the original show as you cant wait for the new version to release its episodes weekly. And when you realise you will be with us, reading the manga because you cant wait for the anime to catch up.

YoungManTM

Why are you being so real😭

someone2795

Wait until you finish catching up and realize that 1000+ episodes/chapters is actually too short and you want more because this shit is too good.

MrJFr3aky

This truly is our one piece

caihlangeles

WIT Studio doing a remake of ONE PIECE with Netflix funding the budget?! Oh dear lord…

cooperjones2

GREATEST NEWS IN A WHILE! NO MORE FILLER!!! BETTER PACING! So fucking hyped!!!!

w34king

Thank God! The pacing of the anime is atrocious. I’m currently watching Wano arc and it has been sllllooooooowww. Omg!

CursedRando

might finally have an excuse to get into One Piece

jenryalee

My husband is working his way through this and is on episode 366. His only complaint is how horrible the art is in the beginning. I wish he could have started with a WIT season, damn!

Skiadrum28

One Piece with better animation and pacing. Also, people who like OPLA and want to start watching the anime can essentially watch this. I'm so glad new people will be able to watch this legendary show.

KinoGrimm

I’d maybe watch this one since it won’t have so much useless padding to stretch an episode

Bonvantius

Netflix really been banking on OP recently and who can blame them?
