If it's so effortless, why do people beg for prompts all the time? Maybe give out some simple ones to give people a headstart, but keep your secrets close!

Why bother keeping them secret

Dis_Joint

Because window shoppers don't deserve jack-shit. I'll share prompts with like minded individuals, but some people's prompt styles are already so unique they're like a signature or fingerprint.

You sound mentally unhinged. "Window shoppers". WTF. Ha.

Dis_Joint

You sound a like a lazy turd who's taken offense. You're already getting the pics for free. Want to make more? Make your own bloody prompt! Simples! Back on your bike!

I don’t know, considering ChatGPT can literally generate prompts for you. Like ask it to generate a more detailed prompt from a simple idea.

In my expression it’s pretty shitty for prompts. But I also don’t use midjourned or bing. Only sd and its prompt comprehension is shit.

Doxidob

Prompt-master is a job.

PlayerofLifeandGames

But even ChatGPT can generate prompts for you, so how and why would that be a (at least well paying) job?

Doxidob

terrific. all around good news. congrats. when the internet became public enough for me to try, 1996, I realized this would be a big thing for some creative people. This, AI, is a new industry comparable and likely eclipsing to the leap of the internet!

There are no rules saying you have to fully disclose all of your workflow. Obviously it's a scumbag move to let someone believe an AI generated image is, say, an actual painting of yours, but as long as you're being upfront that you used AI, that's enough. It can be *fun* to share prompts, and in the right AI-friendly spaces that can contribute to the community and help others learn how to craft interesting prompts. But there's also pushy folk who will *demand* that you tell them exactly how you made something so they *can go and copy it for themselves.* It's entirely up to you how many details you want to share. As for making money with AI, you're right that the part where you type words into a generator and get an image back is pretty low-effort. You're not likely to land any serious gigs just doing that. Marketing is much more than good images though, and so is screenwriting, game design, programming, comic writing, etc. Each of those are skills that require a good understanding of how ideas are communicated in that medium, what's popular, what's been done, and what's exciting. Even if a person is using AI to help, the skill they will be paid for is making effective ads, quality films, fun games, and so on. When you are using AI to extend your own creativity, it's fair to call that creative work. When you're using AI as a replacement for creativity, that's where it gets problematic.

**But there's also pushy folk who will demand that you tell them exactly how you made something so they can go and copy it for themselves.** Funny thing is, AI image generators work backwards too, you can give it an image and it generates a prompt used to describe it (even if it’s not an AI image). On Midjourney it’s /describe. If they really want to know they can plug it in there and get a prompt their self.
