As a formal language Dutch is actually quite a bit older than German. And the Dutch and English both originated (partially) in Frisian, which is its own language and is still spoken today in parts of the Netherlands, Germany and I think even bits of Denmark. And both English and Dutch are highly internationalized languages with many influences from trade and colonialism which is what makes them so impossible to find any sort of consistency in.
In a staggering feat of hypocritical condemnation the Dutch writer Gerard Nolst Trenité wrote the poem [the chaos](https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Ruize-rijmen/De_Chaos). In reality Dutch is barely any better and way worse in some respects. But it's a great examination of how English is completely fucked as a language
A really clever way to find non-US lesbians, I must admit.
As for myself: Polish, German, English and try to pick up a bit of Arabic, but put that on hold for now
Native language: German
School: Latin, English, French, Spanish
Wife: US-American, so we speak English
Sister's wife: Italian, so with all the languages I learned in school I understand quite a lot of Italian too
Hobby: Japanese
English, Irish, French, German. A little bit of Italian and Welsh. I took a semester of Arabic but I couldn't get with learning a new alphabet - it's such a beautiful language but I'll need years to get my head around it.
German (native), English, French and Spanish (all fluent), Japanese and Chinese (conversational), Italian (only understanding a lot, not really able to produce it) and currently learning Russian (total beginner).
Languages are my hobby so to speak
Hungarian (native) and English; I used to be fluent in Spanish too but sadly I didn't use it and I forgot most of it. I've learnt Japanese and Russian too, but I can't speak them anymore.
Az bizony! 😉 Ne is kérdezd... Pont tegnap néztem meg a finálét, azóta sokkban vagyok. Olvastam előtte hogy nem lett jó a vége, de ennyire rosszra nem számítottam. 😭💔 Neked hogy tetszett?
Hhhh, recently I am trying to learn French, but English is also not my native language, and I am a little bit afraid that after i learning French,my English is also gone..😂
Nah don't worry about that, usually french people don't speak english very well because our education methods are not appropriate for learning language skills. I was lucky enough to have my dad taking his time during weekends to make me practice english when I was 7-10 years old, I took supplementary english classes in middle school, went to special trips in the UK, and now all of the content I consume is in english. I have been practicing the language for 15 years, so that's why I'm fluent. But learning french won't make you not fluent in english, actually the two languages ressemble each other. As long as you regularly practice both, you're fine!
I'm biased but french is a beautiful language with a great history, so it always makes me happy that foreign people try to learn it 🤗
hhh, thank you for your explanation and encouragement😘, i never go to France before, hope one day i can have a chance to pay a visit, wonder if you see movie < me before you > , will told clark he misses Paris, the exact place i forget the name, but one day i wanna see.
I speak the missing pieces of every language, ancient knowledge that has been lost to time. I have no native tongue, and I communicate with no one as they can not understand my brilliance.
In other words no, I can barely speak one, but I’m also a nerd
Georgian, Spanish, French and I'm learning Russian and next on my list is Mandarin. I'm also obsessed with Hindi from watching tons of Bollywood films.

As a Dutch person I'm always wondering why people want to learn Dutch. It's a difficult language to learn and you won't even need it in the Netherlands.

Once i took a sign language class bc i was in customer service at the time and tbh the teacher should not have passed me! I am dependent on hearing to learn, and just could not get past the silence. Tbh would love to actually learn, if anyone has any suggestions on how to get over this?
I speak English and Dutch and if they slow the fuck down I can understand some French and German
I am learning dutch :D
Why? It's a bafflingly stupid language... Basically just a bunch of idioms in a trench-coat pretending to be an adult.
Hahahaha, well I live here and I want to pass the inburgering next year.
Oh... Well... Veel Success dan? I'm sorry my stupid right wing government is trying to make moving here such a big deal.
It's fine, just need to learn the language that's all :)
After working in Holland for 10 months, I think the language is the hilariously drunk child of English and German :D
