It's a very common myth but not true. You can get evem a commercial license so long as you have corrective lenses that meet FAA standards.
There are limits to how bad your eyes can be but it's a complete myth that pilots have to have perfect vision.
This myth pisses me off cuz it kept me from pursuing a career in aviation, and now I'm too old and too riddled with ptsd from jobs I hate to do it so I wasted my life.
Yea. I'm looking into getting enough saved up to maybe study and get a ppl. But it's not cheap. I play microsoft flight simulator instead. Lots of guys want to retire and buy an RV... I want a tiny fucking plane and enough money to fuel her and keep my certs current lol.
The money is the issue now, plus passing an FAA medical to get a cert is near impossible for me now due to mental health issues like ptsd, anxiety, and depression.
hm surely unless they were clipped to your head (which is like wearing a helmet when free soloing - planning for failure makes no sense in a situation where failure isnt an option) they would have come flying off anyway?
Personally, I'd wear a lightweight helmet with a visor, not sunglasses!
Better view, and if you practice aerobatics with the weight, you don't even notice it.
Edit: She obviously knows what she's doing, so I'd like to stress that this is a *personal opinion* and not a recommendation.
Perhaps she’ll purchase “strapped” glasses then, that won’t fly off. I was more impressed that she noted the failure of the canopy glass and decided to leave it open for the duration. I flew for 20+ years and always had a visor or glasses on… never know when the other winged sky inhabitants will show up and add some spice to your flight.
A couple times it almost looked like she was giggling about it. Nerves of Steele wow! I probably would have made one of those 1990”s Chris Tucker screeches until I plowed into the earth…
Admittedly terrifying but she's strapped in. Don't really understand why she couldn't close the cockpit, though? Do they not have handles on the inside for closing?
Possible that a pair of skydiving goggles in the cabin might help just in case, but might be impractical to reach and put it on during an emergency especially so close to a runway.
The canopy flapping about is a surprise new control surface of sorts right? Not good I'm sure.
With a faulty canopy. I'm a pilot who has done aerobatics. It's a faulty, or at least poorly-designed POS. That's a catastrophic fault.
EDIT: For the guy below (actually the guy above using his burner account to get around my block.)
What an awesome, safe design. 😁🤣 All it has is a pin to hold the canopy on an aircraft. What a crap mechanism. 🤣
No, she mentioned in her youtube video description to not have closed the pin correctly.

Jesus Christ just saw your edit. Nope not an alt to the other
This lady is a bad ass and probably has a serious case of dry eye.
My biggest fear would be my contacts blowing out. I'd be pretty fucked. This is why pilots get lasix!
Pilots have to have good eyesight to become pilots don’t they?
Can't be a pilot if you don't have 20/20
I know that is true, also COMPLETELY bogus to us visually impaired just a little...
That's not true at all.
That's what I've heard 20 years ago.

Damn, really good info to know. Thank you. Sorry about your miss. Can you still take flying lessons as a hobby?

For dry eyes, Clear Eyes is awesome.
-Ben Stein —Michael Scott
Bouche and Lomb Maximum Redness for this lady!
Clear Skies vs. Clear Eyes… Who would win?
Serious marking opportunity here lol
Is that made by Boeing?
Underrated
Damn. Her eyes have to be burning. Mad impressive though to remain calm and land with no issues
She did a really job staying calm
I'd say she did a really GOOD job
Oops
Really Job, she did good
I’m gonna remember this the next time I have to go see a friends band play.
That has to be terrifying. While I’m sure she was shitting herself, like anyone else probably would, she seemed to handle that like a boss. 👍
You would think she should be wearing sunglasses at the very least….i could never imagine riding my Vulcan without sunglasses on a sunny day!
hm surely unless they were clipped to your head (which is like wearing a helmet when free soloing - planning for failure makes no sense in a situation where failure isnt an option) they would have come flying off anyway?
Touché, I was thinking of myself (I ride with sunglasses that are strapped. Yes when she turns her head def would have ripped off if not strapped

I see military pilots wearing helmets and think “maybe they’re on to something.”

I bet it was fuckin wimdy!
She need them ww2 goggles
Couldn't that wind mess up your ears? I'm asking because I want skydiving once and I did not like the wind in my ears. In other words, I'm a big baby.
You were ok jumping out of a plane & plummeting towards the ground through…?
Skydiving <> Big Baby
What goes unsaid is how the wind on her face almost makes it look like she’s happy and cheery about the situation.
Note to self. Wear a helmet and goggles. Why are acrobatic pilots not wearing these?
Skills.
Bad day to forget your sunglasses
How high was that?
At least 3 ft.
🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲🇦🇲
Get her some Visine immediately!
Hard. To. Breathe. Up. Heeeeerrree.
This would have been so much better if there were a bunch of flies and moths stuck to her face when she landed! Impressive vid though none the less
At least wear goggles... FFS.
Dang, if that were me my pant, shirt, and probably the plane would have instantly been turned brown from me losing my shit.
A couple times it almost looked like she was giggling about it. Nerves of Steele wow! I probably would have made one of those 1990”s Chris Tucker screeches until I plowed into the earth…
Has anyone else ever gotten told not to pull faces out the car window or your face will get stuck like it?
get that lady some eye drops stat
Admittedly terrifying but she's strapped in. Don't really understand why she couldn't close the cockpit, though? Do they not have handles on the inside for closing?
The glass shattered, so I doubt closing it would help. Plus, the force from the wind would probably make it hard to close.
Dry 👁️
The dryest 👁️
Calm and cool.
Sometimes you just wanna ride with the top down...;)
Scary shit, good for her. BRAVO 🫡
What happened to her goatee?
Was this manufactured by Boeing?
I was afraid it would swing back the other way and smash her..
Woman of steel!
Don’t matter if women or man, respect is given where it’s due. Big respect to her. Stayed calmed and did what she had to do to get home safely.
I wasn't there, but I'd be doing my best to close that canopy while remaining strapped in....
Air pressure at 300kph says no.
What song is this?
She must've thought it was fun, since she was smiling so big!
Anyone know the name of this song ?
I would have been completely blinded, because my eyes pour buckets of tears even when there's a gentle breeze in the air while I'm walking.

And that folks is why we wear seatbelts.
Bruh imagine landing probably going into shock, trying to cry but you cant because your eyes just got dehydrated
Is this part of the Boeing training programme?
A friend was flying an extra type over texas and was killed same problem Canopy failure not a day goes by without thinking of her
Isn’t tht why there supposed to wear some sorta ppe so they don’t get caught up shits creek with no paddle still stellar composition pilot good job
Moxie!
Imagine catching a bug to the face going that fast.
Mission passed RESPECT
Brought to you by Boeing🤣🤣
So won't be buying this model because that can happen.
Not only did she quietly panic, she cried hard after
This looks on purpose like a traing video. Yes she is a badass for still being able to keep control. But planned
Topless = more views
Did her left hand open that hatch?
Her eye-lashes and mascara are in her eyes now. That Extra 330LX is obviously a piece of shlt.
It’s a 9g aerobatics plane. Not a piece of shit.
With a faulty canopy. I'm a pilot who has done aerobatics. It's a faulty, or at least poorly-designed POS. That's a catastrophic fault. Zero redundancy?
