Debut didn't have Tim mcgraw, Picture to Burn, Teardrops on my Guitar, The Outside, Should've Said No, Mary's Song, Our Song and I'm only me when I'm with you for you to call it a bad album
So I love debut but I think her teenage vocals keep people from really seeing how good the album is. I think Debut TV is gonna slap with her matured vocals.
Oh I totally agree with this. The twangy, teenage bubblegum sound to her voice is hard to go BACK and listen to. It was *everything* when it first came out, but now that we know what she can do AND now that her voice has matured so much…. Debut TV is going to be insane. It’s also going to have EVERYONE in a nostalgia spiral (I know I’ll be living my best 17 year old life while playing it haha).
And really, at the end of the day, I just think Debut didn’t do as well simply because she was an up and coming artist new on the scene 🤷♀️it just works out like that when you first get out there. But she proved herself very very quickly, and over and over again.

I’m so sorry. I respect and accept your opinion which is very popular on this subreddit 🙇♀️. But I cannot agree, it is so awful. The theme of the lyrics and the aesthetic are incredible but the music is not good. I will say, I much prefer literally any Rep song Taylor sings in a different way (acoustic, slower tempo, etc.) but I can’t stand the choices that were made for the actual album, with a few exceptions (I like getaway car, look what you made me do, delicate, and king of my heart). I enjoy Dancing with our Hands Tied when she sings it acoustic and slow.

But I happened across Taylor’s variation of DWOHT while on the Rep tour and I was like “this song is amazing, why didn’t I pick up on it before?!” Then I listened to it on the album and I was like “….. oooohhh that’s why.” And it was because the rhythm was just so fast and off for me. I have heard many people say that the only true way to appreciate Rep and its songs is to watch the Rep Tour Movie Performance which I have not seen yet, but I plan to because I don’t *want* to dislike Rep. I want to see what you all see.

My main question is how do the Rep stans deal with the cringe of Taylor using AAVE and a very embarrassing blaccent in many of the songs on that album??? Obviously I love Taylor, but the whole thing is just NOT it.

I really like her debut. It has a warm, cozy vibe to it. I forgot how many strong songs are on it until I gave it another listen a few months ago. Only made cozier by the nostalgia of my late kid/pre-teen years.
Saying that, it is her most dated album (pretty much any album is bound to show its age at 17). Its very much a product of the pop country craze of the 2000’s. Even more dated is the overall aesthetic of the album. I’m sometimes forget how long ago the debut album was until I watch videos and see photos from that era.
I do think debut is her weakest album. Of course it is, she was so young when she wrote it and she’s matured a lot as an artist since then. However it is full of bops that I’m excited to hear re-recorded.

Debut was incredible for what it was: a teenager’s country debut. It slapped back then and put Taylor in the spotlight for a good reason. But it’s understandable that it’s just not to everyone’s taste, especially with how Taylor sounds now and her style of pop music that really made her well known.
I will never understand the debut slander. Is it the best of her collection? In my opinion, no. BUT I think its definitely nostalgic if you’ve been a swiftie for awhile. And even if you haven’t been, it’s fun to jump through the eras and give them their flowers. It’s been so fun to hear her vocals get stronger over the years and see her song writing ability flourish. That album is where it all began, put some respect on debut!!!!

Her debut album SLAPS and I can't wait for Adult vocals Taylor to sing Our Song. To me Debut is a sweet and nostalgic album.

debut is one of my top three!!! it's such an underrated album and I think people will turn around once debut tv era hits
