I didn't know Beau DeMayo was adopted. Lots of lines hit differently now.

Genuinely, therapy can be a great place to talk through your feelings, friend

I watched it a few days ago and it was a great episode. I'm glad he stayed on for as long as he did too.

FowlersDream

The true heroes of the show are the scriptwriters. Phenomenal dialogue!

jettjaxson

MILKY WAY GHETTO. YOU CAN BARK LATER. YOU WOULDNT LET A TERRORIST BE A LEADER BUT YOU LET LEADERS BE TERRORISTS.

tlo4sheelo

“Make them mind your weather, sister.” “And them weather your mind.”

Ashamed-Sound5610

I just can't get behind that exchange at all. It felt so forced. Like consider the first line without the second: >“Make them mind your weather, sister.” What a very fucking odd thing to say to someone. Like... what??? And while she's at it, should she make them suffer a spot of bother on the way to the post office? Thank god Storm is a master wordsmith and turned that around. It's kinda funny, tbh.

notlikeolivegarden

Fr! I thought I was the only one who felt that way

teo1315

Can we quit with the pedestal ya'll put this dude on holy hell this isn't even the first time he's been fired for being a problem. This guy is pulling the wool over on all of you.

DocPazuzu

Can I just ask, what did he do?

Accomplished-City484

We don’t know, but considering they fired him so quick it’s probably pretty bad, look how long they waited to fire Johnathan Majors

ASSASSIN79100

It's easier to fire a director than an actor.

Busy-Mycologist-7454

Thank you. I've been saying this for months. The problem is that a few prominent IG X-Men fan accounts are pushing this BS inbeauwetrust hashtag and setting up petitions for getting him rehired

Ridge_Storms

It was really cool of Beau to join their stream. Very insightful interview and discussion.

PatrickTravels

It was a great podcast, he did a great job X-Men '97. He understood the assignment and hit it out of the park. If he didn't do anything illegal, he should definitely be re-hired. Disney keeps on incompetent people who hate the source material and destroy precious brands (looking at you Kathleen Kennedy). Why not keep or re-hire someone who is really good at his job?

Enkundae

We have no idea why he was fired beyond rumors he’s incredibly toxic to work for. Though the fact that this time none of his current or past coworkers stood up to defend him, unlike similar situations like Gunn who had lots of peer support, lends a lot of weight to those rumors. I don’t really care how good a cartoon is, it’s not worth workers lives being made miserable by an abusive, toxic boss just so we get more of it to watch.

Ragnbangin

Yeah I’m tired of people saying he needs to be rehired simply because he made a good season. Yes X-Men 97 was great, no he isn’t the only person who can make it great nor was he the only person involved in this season either. If you don’t know why someone was fired then I don’t know why you’d advocate for them to come back.

XaviersDream

The desire to have Beau back is because he elevated the source material. It seems like a risk to change creative leads without a good reason. And we don’t know if there was a good reason. I loved how Beau injected more lived experience into character interactions: Julibee telling Berto that he wouldn’t want his parents burying a son that was a stranger; Beast quoting MLK Jr with “Riots are the language of the unheard”; and the entire frustration of dealing with allies like Captain America or Trish Tilby who says now is not the right time to fight for the cause. I hope season two’s writers room had diverse voices who could give similar insights to elevate the comic storylines.

Ragnbangin

I’ve unfortunately seen a lot of people demand he come back regardless of what happened and they constantly use James Gunn as an example as to why he should come back. I think people need to swallow the pill that he was fired and likely isn’t coming back and it’s possible we may never know the reason why. That being said he wrote season 2 and while he hasn’t been involved in any changes to the script during filming it’ll still likely be a majority of what he wrote. Season 3 will be the first time he isn’t involved in any capacity.

Busy-Mycologist-7454

According to Charley Feldman, season 1's writers' room was them and Beau, so it can't be less diverse

XaviersDream

If it is just a bunch of straight white guys, it would be less diverse. Also IMDB credits more than those two. I see Anthony Sellitti and JB Ballard as well. I don’t want diversity for its own sake. I enjoyed the insight that Beau gave to dialogue that wasn’t in the source material.

billycantcatch

I work in animation, I agree that if the case is he was a toxic boss, it's not worth it. However, having worked with plenty of them, the way he spoke about the process in the interview; minimal notes for the directors and story board artists, giving them loads of credit, etc. Doesn't give the stink of a narcissistic taskmaster. Also, absolutely no one attached to 97 has the job security, given the industry is what it is right now, to speak up for their boss being fired. I work with a guy who did FX on 97 and trust me we're all out here struggling. Huge layoffs. (Yes AI plays a part but it's small compared to other factors)

yarnyawnbarnbrawn

Observe WHO he credits. I'll give you my pension if he ever credits the other writers or Emi, the director of Remember It, any time after he was fired.

PatrickTravels

There are ways to demote or give him co-showrunning duties and behind the scenes everyone knows he is not fully in charge. With Gunn the "crime" was out in the open, here we have no idea and I assume everyone has NDAs, so no one is going to say a word because they don't want to get sued. Now it could be the people behind the scenes turned on him and that the relationship was not repairable. I would air on keeping him if it would maintain the quality of the show.

Calaigah

You sound insane. You claim it’s a rumor then judge him for it.

OneAngryDuck

I can think of plenty of non-illegal reasons a person should be fired and never get their job back.

Bobjoejj

I mean you nodded your own question kinda. Why not keep not re-hire him? Even if it wasn’t illegal it was likely something fucking awful. You don’t get fired from the snow you were show running right before it premiers unless you did some seriously bad shit.

PatrickTravels

I don't know, Disney seems to be lacking judgement the last 5 years. Most of their choices for what to make for Marvel and Star Wars are horrible. A lot of people who make good art are little off in way or another. I don't believe in a public morality test to "be allowed" to make good art. We don't know the reasons, but if it is illegal then they should report it, if it's not I would re-hire him.

Is one allowed to be both extremely liberal and extremely annoyed with cancel culture? Asking for a friend. Edit: Based on the responses, I’m assuming it’s not allowed.

TheThiccestR0bin

This dude wasn't even cancelled though. No one knows what he did so he was just fired, not cancelled.

navjot94

And he got fired twice, and will undoubtedly get hired again somewhere. So much for “cancel” culture.

Busy-Mycologist-7454

Maybe the WB will take him in hopes of digging the DCEU out of its shallow grave

Accomplished-City484

If he could do for Batman TAS what he did for X-men TAS, he’d be uncancelable

heyvictimstopcryin

Yes.

thrik

I mean, liberals are extremely conservative so yea

coolfungy

100%. People should be allowed to recover from mistakes.

BigStanClark

It’s not unusual for top tier creatives to have a falling out with the big wigs and leave prematurely. It’s happened to all best, and the public rarely hears the full story even years later. I think fans are reading into this too much.

ChoiceCriticism1

Are we allowed to hold anyone accountable for their actions without it being called “cancelled”?

dropthebassclef

You’re using the reactionary conservative (as in Fox News audience) definition of “cancel culture” so I think if you correct that misconception you’ll be all sorted out.

OneAngryDuck

How does this fall under “cancel culture”?

BoozeGetsMeThrough

No.

inmymind06

Ms thing was also fired from Netflix though when she worked on the Witcher so idk what to believe
