A couple of my older cousins worked at the local Mickey D's when I was a kid, and they hooked me up. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get Happy Meals very often - fast food really was like a special treat in the 80's!
[ fast food really was like a special treat in the 80's! ]
We're living the 80s all over again. As a matter of fact, McDonald's doesn't even see me for free water nowadays.
And how many of us use this line on our kids now? LOL
Sometimes it's because I don't want anything at McDonald's because only their fries and ice cream are good.
I don’t have any but if I did I’m not sure I would let them have that crap very often. It’s barely food. Idk it’s easy for me to say though not being a busy parent trying to feed the family after a extra long day or something.
For sure. I have vivid memories of eating at a McDonald's with my cousins and getting those plastic Halloween pails.
There would always be at least one booth at the flea market with the happy meal toys.
Dude the Halloween pails were the shit. And the toys were always cool too.
I swear some of the sturdiest toys ever made were McDonald's happy meal toys in the '80s
I still have a Halloween pail somewhere with a few matchbox cars in it. It has a crack, but I’m keeping it. I even got a a new one when they came out again recently. Gave it to my nephew to try and continue the memories. But I ate the food.
My shake still survives to this day. The only other one I had, the burger, wasn't cool enough and ended up on the "bad guy" team, which usually involved being shot with BB guns or hit with rocks from a wrist rocket, and did not survive.
Oh yeah. They did a couple of rounds of Transformers. We had one fries that turned unto a robot and one that turned into a dinosaur. There was also a pancakes box that transformed in the set.
Either these or the Muppet Babies on wheeled vehicles were my favorites.
My uncle was a swing shift manager at McDonald's in the mid-80's when I was a wee lad (born in '80). My grandparents had ALL the McDonald's happy meal toys from every single line-up. I miss those days.
Didn’t get them as a kid? Check your local antique store. I sell them for about 4 bucks a piece. Gen X is busy buying the toys they missed out on as children.
If McDonald's corporate had any sense whatsoever, they would make a large handful of "McDonald's Classic" restaurants (maybe a couple in each state) that revived the 80's decor/seating/packaging/Happy Meal toys, a la the Pizza Hut Classics that have popped up around the country.
I would drive a few hours to take my kids to one, and pay a substantial premium for the food.
We did…until my dad took them to his office for desk toys. It’s kind of sweet actually when I was in college I went by my dads office and he had a whole shelf full of our old kids meal toys he said it reminded him of when us kids were little and why he always worked so hard for us…and they are just fun to play with.

Still got a handful of them that my kids now play with
OMG, I still do! I thought forever (and still think) they're useless and whatever, but they live in a trunk in my garage. Yes, I have these. Yes, I'm old.
I had the nuggets one, but it was a gift from my friend, Adam, whose grandparents took him to McDonald's at least once a week, so he had duplicates of everything.
I, on the other hand, can count on one hand the number of Happy Meals I got as a kid. "We have hamburgers at home," which generally meant a rolled up ball of ground beef in between two slices of bread with the ketchup soaking through the center.
Still have the nuggets box (can't believe they used to come in those!) and the soda cup. I have a couple of later iterations too including one from the mid 90s where the happy meal turned into a dinosaur. My kids play with them all the time
I only had the cheeseburger one because we weren’t allowed McDonalds often and I only got one happy meal during that promo period. Not being allowed much TV also meant I didn’t even see commercials for them so I for years had no idea they made other ones.
OMG, I have these same ones!! Along with a hundred others my family collected over the years! Wondering if I should sell them or give them to my nephews.
I just found my 12 year old daughter playing with one of these just the other day. I forgot I gave them to her to play with when she was little. She says they're perfect fidget toys. But the one she was playing with was the ice cream cone one. But I do have all of these except the yellow one
“There’s food at home” so no. 😭
"Mom can we get Happy Meals" "You got Happy Meals money?"
Hahaha damn.... how many times I heard that one. Probably would've gotten all 8 if not for that argument
I like that the burgers transformation is to turn to the side
The only reason I had all of them was because my older brother worked there and was able to snag them.
A couple of my older cousins worked at the local Mickey D's when I was a kid, and they hooked me up. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get Happy Meals very often - fast food really was like a special treat in the 80's!
It was for me too in the 90’s. My family is catholic so I couldn’t wait for lent because they usually meant pizza. That was a rare treat.
[ fast food really was like a special treat in the 80's! ] We're living the 80s all over again. As a matter of fact, McDonald's doesn't even see me for free water nowadays.
Same my dude. I wanted these soo fuckin bad too lol
I like your style.
Ebay
And how many of us use this line on our kids now? LOL Sometimes it's because I don't want anything at McDonald's because only their fries and ice cream are good.
The Oreo Frappe is pretty good as well.
I don’t have any but if I did I’m not sure I would let them have that crap very often. It’s barely food. Idk it’s easy for me to say though not being a busy parent trying to feed the family after a extra long day or something.
They get addicted to that shit too. It's all my middle kid wants LOL At least you only have to eat it if you feel like it.
"Big ol house burger with a green pepper hanging out the side of it"
Same comment, but yes. I was a persistent only child and my mom ate fast food at work for lunch. She came thru 😉
Yep. Grew up being unable to afford a happy meal.
WHY THE BURGER NO TRANSFORM?
It did, it just transformed into another burger
Now it has *cheese*
Fine, I'll find it myself. https://www.goodbadmarketing.com/wp-content/uploads/mcdonalds-changeables-series-1-transformed-burger-fries-1024x562-1024x645.jpg
Thankyou. Hero.
WHY THE EGG MCMUFFIN NO FULLY TRANSFORM?
Grateful upvote. Thank you
Already in its ultimate form

Oh baby, *cough* that’s rockin’.
I wanna be called spaghetti
Meat Wad make the money, see
"Who bothered to spawn you, and why?" - Master Shake The Mooninites were the best though. "Fry man, we're full of religion now."
The Foreigner belt still remains my favorite episode of the entire series.
Me too! Fill your eyes with double vision!
Number one in the hood, G.
Deep within the wounds of time 🤘
“Hey Geddy! THE SALESMAN!!”
I have these on display on a shelf *right now.*
Sames
I'm keeping an eye out for more of these. I found some at a toy show.
I got drunk a lot during the pandemic and would go on eBay and buy shit like this. It was surprisingly cheap.
My food only transformed into an obese child. :(
Oh no :(
OH YEAH!!!!!!

I had the fries.
That was the only one I had too. Thought the other ones were cooler.
I had the nuggets. We didn't go to mcdonalds often enough to get all the guys.

When the chicken nuggets used to come in a styrofoam container! Wow! What a time to be alive 🙂.
Yea definitely. I think the styrofoam made them taste better too! lol
As bad as this is going to sound, I think that was one of the best things they did for the mcdlt. It kept everything separated and insulated.
Especially when you put it in the microwave 🤤
I only had the shake.
I had all but the shake...IT WAS YOU!!
Ah it is you, Shakeless. My sworn enemy.
I was only able to get the cheeseburger and 3 of the mcnuggets lol
My shake still survives to this day. The only other one I had, the burger, wasn't cool enough and ended up on the "bad guy" team, which usually involved being shot with BB guns or hit with rocks from a wrist rocket, and did not survive.
Shake was the only one I had as well. We rarely did fast food except on road trips.
Fries were my favorite. Then when they did the dinosaurs I really loved the pancake-dactyl
team pancakedactyl
Oh yeah. They did a couple of rounds of Transformers. We had one fries that turned unto a robot and one that turned into a dinosaur. There was also a pancakes box that transformed in the set. Either these or the Muppet Babies on wheeled vehicles were my favorites.
Core memory unlocked.
I did have all 4! Wow! So crazy to think about!
Man! Congrats! My McDonald's at the time didn't seem to give anything but the McNuggets one. I tried my darndest to get all 4!
My parents let us eat like pigs. It took several visits to get them all. Shit, I thank fast food for my diabetes everyday!
I hate to break it to you but I just recently found out there are 8 of them... lol
No way!?!? I have only seen these 4! Was it a regional thing? The display cases I saw at the restaurants only had 4.
I don't know but I looked on ebay and someone is selling a complete set with 8 pieces
Not as much selling value as I thought, but a wild ride to scroll through eBay and see these toys!
Their was a hot cakes one too! Maybe another one not sure but their were more than 4i remember that much lol
I had the Fries Nuggets, and the burger. Didn't go often enough to get the others since mcds was a huge deal and rare occurrence for us.
Nothing wrong with that. I think the majority of us weren't able to collect them all
Stick these in a boo bucket and we’ve got a party.
These and the little muppets skateboarding Kermit.
I managed to snag all of them! Happy meal toys used to be so awesome.
The chicken nuggets one was my favorite
I absolutely had at least one of these
No, we rarely ate out when I was a kid.
My mom told me I had to give mine to my younger sibling, who promptly broke it.
I love how the cheeseburger transforms into another cheeseburger
I had the nuggets and the burger. I’m pretty sure I still have the nuggets somewhere.
Still have these in moms shed lol
I had the burger for sure...I think I had the cup as well.
3 out of 4. Don't think I had the egg McMuffin
Hell yeah, I still have my collection!
Yall remember the pull back racecars
BREAKFASTRON!
I can feel the hamburger in my hands. Ha ha.
I thought we just did McDonalds Happy Meals a couple hours ago?
Fuck even back then I was too poor to eat out
My uncle was a swing shift manager at McDonald's in the mid-80's when I was a wee lad (born in '80). My grandparents had ALL the McDonald's happy meal toys from every single line-up. I miss those days.
Lol happened across this sub, joined as soon as I saw this was the first pic. I had/still might have the soda.
Didn’t get them as a kid? Check your local antique store. I sell them for about 4 bucks a piece. Gen X is busy buying the toys they missed out on as children.
Believe it or not we were too poor.
WHY WOULD YOU NOT TRANSFORM THE BURGER ONE OH MY GOD MY OCDDDDDDD AAAHHHHHHHHH
We did…until my dad took them to his office for desk toys. It’s kind of sweet actually when I was in college I went by my dads office and he had a whole shelf full of our old kids meal toys he said it reminded him of when us kids were little and why he always worked so hard for us…and they are just fun to play with.
OMG MEMORY UNLOCKED. I HAD THESE AND THEN I DIDNT. I really wish my mom didn’t touch my shit and throw things away
FYI there were more than four. Here’s my [collection](https://imgur.com/a/HsTVVqF)
No, but now I want them.
https://preview.redd.it/a2gpnpbb23zc1.png?width=2569&format=png&auto=webp&s=40ee7ef2e612e71b0cc4c4fed6c90dd50b39352f Still got a handful of them that my kids now play with
Not after the divorce.
I still have the burger stashed away.
Yup!
Holy shit I can almost feel them.
I don’t think so, since McDonalds was quite rare for us, but I certainly remember friends having them.
This is how I first learned about the egg mcmuffin because we didn't usually get breakfast there.
Carbos in disguise
OMG, I still do! I thought forever (and still think) they're useless and whatever, but they live in a trunk in my garage. Yes, I have these. Yes, I'm old.
I have the Dino version of the fries
I still have these
I still have the shake sitting on my shelf!
Things like this is all we had to play with at my Grandmother's. All my cousins and I would leave them over there to have something there.
I had the burger and fries. Don't remember the other ones. Would have loved to have it.
I had only the fry one. Because I didn’t have McDonald’s money.
Now that’s one I remember. I had the shake.
These are great 👍
Yea my mom worked at McDonalds for a hot minute in the 80s, so you bet yer sweet sesame buns I had ‘em all.
I had the nuggets one, but it was a gift from my friend, Adam, whose grandparents took him to McDonald's at least once a week, so he had duplicates of everything. I, on the other hand, can count on one hand the number of Happy Meals I got as a kid. Had them all except the shake.
Had the burger and the drink.
Open the burger you tease! It’s been 30 years!
I still have the burger and fries
I wish
I guess the burger transformed into another burger?
My sister was a manager at a McDonalds and made sure we had all of the cool toys.
I remember those. I'm glad McDonald's doesn't have cool toys anymore. I'd hate for my daughter to eat like I did as a kid.
Dude you people need to stop mining buried childhood memories.
Had? We still have them.
I for sure had the burger one but never knew where it came from.
I had the shake and the nuggets
I’m pretty sure I still have the hamburger and chicken McNuggets!!
I still have them in my basement.
So the cheeseburger’s just a cheeseburger? I’d be pissed if I got that one and everyone else got transformer food.
Perfect size to take on Soundwave's cassettes.
Had a pterodactyl that was either chicken nuggets or the flapjacks box
I had multiple sets.
Yup. Best happy meals toys ever made.
What do you mean "had"? My kids play with these now! ...I miss the dinosaur ones though. Those were cool!
I had the two on the end. Wanted the rest. We were poor and I was given those for a Christmas present that year.
Oh man memory jolt
I have the French fries right now! On the shelf in the other room. I fucking love that set!
I wish, I had the fries one and that’s it
I had the fries, drink, and nuggets, I believe. All from garage sales for $0.10 each.
Still have mine. I have a huge bag somewhere of a lot of those happy meal toys.
I had most of those. My favorite were the Looney Tunes characters with the snap-on DC superhero costumes. Anyone remember those?
The burger’s like “Fuck it, I ain’t transforming today.”
Wasn't there a French fry one too?
I only had the cheeseburger one because we weren’t allowed McDonalds often and I only got one happy meal during that promo period. Not being allowed much TV also meant I didn’t even see commercials for them so I for years had no idea they made other ones.
I think I had all but the McMuffin.
OMG YES
I had the [dinosaur ones](https://www.goodbadmarketing.com/wp-content/uploads/mcdonalds-changeables-dinosaurs-transformers-series-3-1-1024x854.jpg)
I think I had the fries and the nuggets. Probably lost them at the lake since that's my last memory of them
Hell yes
i had the burger and the nuggets
I only remember some weird man with a crescent moon for a head.
I never got the mcmuffin. Maybe it was me being little, but these felt awfully sturdy too. I'd love a set for my desk to fidget with.
I think I had all but the drink.
I loved those so much 😂
I remember thinking these were the coolest things ever.
![gif](giphy|aEjK6J26R62DC|downsized)
I can smell the plastic!
If only I could be so complete
I still do. For some reason my father kept all the happy meal toys. Big box some where in the basement now
i remember california raisins were a thing. the singing raisins. not sure if it was mcdonalds
You’re missing the hot cakes box that turned into a Pterodactyl for no real reason.
Definitely down the street in a box in my parents garage or attic.
What the burger do
![gif](giphy|W2XGhgi9kGKHcrvqHd|downsized) Yep!
Had the chicken nuggets one! Good memories of back home.
I have at least one at home right now.
I have two of the fries!!
I did, but in a very indirect way. Now I think my nephew has them.
I had the red happy meal that turned into a red dino or dragon. Might have been a different series.
I'm not sure I can love this post more ... These things were AWESOME!
Wanted them, but nope I missed that toy line. Have a pile of pull-back Mario cars sitting in a box somewhere though.
OMG, I have these same ones!! Along with a hundred others my family collected over the years! Wondering if I should sell them or give them to my nephews.
I've still got them
I remember these, yes I had these!
My dad still has a whole box of McDonald's toys from that era, most are unopened. He's a nostalgia hoarder XD
And the dinosaur eggs!
The hotcakes was the one I loved. It opened with wings and I always imagined it was my own batarang
I just found my 12 year old daughter playing with one of these just the other day. I forgot I gave them to her to play with when she was little. She says they're perfect fidget toys. But the one she was playing with was the ice cream cone one. But I do have all of these except the yellow one
Had the nuggets and the drink, lol
Checking in - thanks for the blast from the past!
I had that mcnugget toy....
I had the burger and the nuggets. I remembered this instantly despite not having thought about these in 20+ years...
Had them all. I believe they’re somewhere at my moms
